At first glance this appears to be another blow to conservatives, but I will withhold judgement until I find out more about the man. It is being reported that President Bush will nominate Michael B. Mukasey, a Giuliani judicial adviser. This, of course, will be a plus for former Mayor Giuliani, who will now have his name mentioned even more in the media and will be able to say that even the President recognizes his competency in filling important positions; at least that is how I believe it will be spun.Apparently this move is simply because the Democrats like this man. This has been part of the problem with President Bush, most of the time he chooses not to fight for conservative ideals. I will point out that the last Bush nominee the Democrats were enthusiastic about was Harriet Myers.
WASHINGTON (AP) - President Bush has settled on Michael B. Mukasey, a retired federal judge from New York, to replace Alberto Gonzales as attorney general and will announce his selection Monday, a person familiar with the president's decision said Sunday evening.
Mukasey, who has handled terrorist cases in the U.S. legal system for more than a decade, would become the nation's top law enforcement officer if confirmed by the Senate. Mukasey has the support of some key Democrats, and it appeared Bush was trying to avoid a bruising confirmation battle. [read more]

So he was Giuliani's judicial adviser? I wonder if he's the one who told Giuliani that illegal immigration wasn't a crime?
As you said, I suppose we have to learn a little more about him before passing judgment but I'm wary.

Any nominee who Chuck Schumer and Harry Reid thinks is a good nominee is probably a complete RINO.
I have been going through his rulings for several hours today and some his rulings worry me.
