ALERT! Congress is not finished with their attempt to force Amnesty down your throat, whether you like it or not. A portion of the so-called Comprehensive Amnesty bill, called AgJOBS bills, that was rejected last spring may return to the Senate floor as early as this week. Thanks to Senator Dianne Feinstein (D - CAL.) and Senator Chuck Hagel (R - NEB.) are at the forefront of this outrageous attempt. If this is enacted an estimated 1.5 million illegals aliens (and their spouses, children, and eventually other family members which could push the total to three million or many more) would be rewarded for spitting on our sovereignty and our laws with amnesty. It would also provide protection for the employers who hired them illegally.
AgJOBS bills will supposedly identify “vacant” agricultural jobs that could be filled by as many as 1.5 million illegal aliens. To apply for legal residency, illegal aliens must demonstrate they have worked agriculture here: (1) 100 work days per year each of the first five years following enactment; (2) 150 work days per year each of the first three years following enactment; or (3) over the course of the first four years after enactment, 150 work days per year for three of those years and 100 work days for the other.
How completely insane has the Congress become? Now if you can provide documentation that you broke our laws and have been working under the table for an employer who should be prosecuted for hiring you we will give you legal status? Who were the brilliant nimrods who voted this Congress in? And, wasn't it because they were so unhappy with the Republican Congress? And, whose approval rating is at 11% (an all time LOW mind you)? Who keeps getting bombarded with angry phone calls every time they try to push their amnesty on us? These idiots need to wake up and smell the coffee or put their money where their mouths are and move these illegals into their neighborhoods and provide for them. Maybe that would change their tune?
Past amnesty for agricultural workers has showen that when illegal aliens working in agriculture are given green cards, they leave agriculture for higher-paying occupations in other areas. Any form of amnesty would bring hundreds of thousands more illegal aliens to the US, some of whom will work agriculture. This would continue to depress wages in all fields and would doom agricultural workers to poverty. AgJOBS would ensure that agricultural workers would never be paid more than minimun wage. It would also mean that taxpayers would continue to have to subsidize the workers, and their families, by providing public benefits such as education, health care, and income supplements (including tax refunds, WIC, and food stamps). For every illegal who receives amnesty there will be an American family who will not be able to receive the same help due to the strain on the system.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports 107,000 American agricultural workers were unemployed in April 2004 and that low-skilled workers, many capable of agricultural work, have been the hardest hit by high unemployment. The unemployment rate for American workers without a high-school diploma is almost a third higher. It was even announced in 2004 that America has an oversupply of low-skilled, low-educated workers.
It has also been reported that if legal workers were hired and the rate of pay was raised to a competative level it would only raise the cost of a head of lettuce at the store by 10 cents. So why not secure our borders, enforce our current immigration laws (something like what Oklahoma recently has done) and watch the illegals self deport. Then reform our current immigration laws to make it easier for those who want to learn English and assymilate to earn citizenship and pay them a legal, competative wage so they can pay taxes and support their families. What is so hard about that? Why is that so repulsive to Democrats and elitist Republicans?
This would be a great benefit and asset to our country. We hear that our population is aging and we are not having enough children as a society (prohibiting abortion would take care of that, but that is another post). An increased Hispanic popluation would benefit America in this area since they tend to be family oriented and tend to have large families. These would all be legal, contributing, tax paying citizens without rewarding one person for breaking our laws.
Please contact your Senators and demand that they not only vote no on this amnesty, but put an end to any amnesty attempt. Demand that they instead work to secure our borders and reform our legal immigration system. Finally, I want to say that this is why we need to nominate an electable, conservative cadidate who will put America and our children's future first, before foreign interests; someone like Mike Huckabee.
