Feingold Gets an F

Have you tried to contact any of your representatives lately? Do you feel that your representatives support your views? Well, I know mine do not and they are not particularly happy to hear from me. I write Senator Feingold's office several times a week on a variety of subjects. I have never received anything other than a standard response, letter or email, that explains why I am wrong on each of these issues. I hear in some of the correspondences that the people have voted for change. I agree wholeheartedly, the people voted for corruption to end, energy independence, increased defense spending and border security now.

Let's just take the last issue of border security and immigration; my beloved Senator Feingold (unfortunately I did not have the privilege of voting against him due to living in another state) has been rated with an overall career grade of an F from Americans for Better Immigration. I know for a fact that he does not actually consider what I or other constituents with the same concerns feel. Wouldn't it be nice if our representatives actually considered our opinions or hired staff that was not rude on the phone? What if they actually stopped the political back stabbing and accomplished some of the issues they were elected to solve

I received the below email today and obtained permission to reproduce it. I think it asks a very important question. On issues that are so important that they deal with life and death we must know exactly where a candidate stands. If they support abortion, as Rudy Giuliani obviously does, then they need to be honest.

Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani told radio talk-show host Laura Ingraham yesterday that the reason he donated to Planned Parenthood in the 1990s was because he supports choices that pregnant women face when considering whether to give birth or abort.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue wants to know more:

“If helping pregnant women make choices is the supreme issue for Rudy Giuliani, then he should be able to document all the checks he’s written to support Crisis Pregnancy Centers—not just Planned Parenthood. If he can’t, it is logical to conclude that the only real choice he thinks is worthy of his money is the one which results in the death of innocent human beings. And that would make him a fraud.”

Secure our Boarders Now

Fox News is reporting that three of the terrorists of the Fort Dix planned attack were illegal aliens and that they may have been smuggled across the Mexican border when they were children. It gets even better, it was also reported by Fox News that they had multiple traffic violations and were never asked about their immigration status because they lived in a sanctuary city. As a veteran I have been greatly disgusted for years that our borders have been wide open. Especially knowing the reason they are wide open is so big business can exploit and profit from artificially decreased wages, the Democrats can gain additional voters (which is completely infuriating since you are supposed to be a US citizen to vote and we all know the system is currently set up so that illegals and felons can vote), and the churches can increase attendance and revenue. These are some of the biggest reasons why Republicans and Democrats refuse to secure our borders administration after administration.

To sit and imagine what could have happened had these terrorists actually carried out their attack is horrifying. As anyone who has ever served in the military knows those bases are not just military installations, they are home to our families and friends and many civilian employees. The carnage that could have been inflicted would have had the effect of making every military family concerned for their safety. Imagine if you are serving in another country and you hear about an attack on a military installation in the continental US. Now you have to sit and worry that your family is under the threat of attack and you are thousands of miles away and can do nothing.

Let's not forget that the only reason these terrorists were caught was because one citizen (probably making close to minimum wage) was observant and reported them to the authorities. Next time we might not be so lucky. So instead of relying on luck, let's start enforcing our laws and securing our borders. Once we have secured our borders and enforced our immigration laws we need to work on improving our current legal immigration system, which is so dysfunctional you have people who are paying thousands of dollars and waiting year after year to come to this country and contribute to our society. These are the type of immigrants you want in America. They have already proven they are willing to do whatever it takes to successfully integrate into our society. That is what makes this country so great.

Navy and Marine Corps Update

The USS Saipan (LHA2) was decommissioned April 20, 2007. She had 29 years of faithful service. Also, the Navy's newest attack submarine, the USS Hawaii (SSN776), was commissioned Saturday, May 5, 2007. She is the third submarine of the Virginia Class. In closing the USS Momsen (DDG92) has begun extensive upgrades to her close in weapons systems (CIWS) and installing Block 4 Tomahawk cruise missiles. They will also be increasing communications capability. She should start sea trials July 17, 2007. Remember to keep our leaders and the armed forces in your prayers.

Brady Quinn Sets an Example, Yet Again

Earlier this week Joe Theismann attacked Brady Quinn in a radio interview, stating that he looked unprofessional at the end of the draft and several other comments like being offended that he was chewing gum and that he had that "just showered" hair look. Instead of getting defensive or pouting, like we see all too often from our professional athletes, Brady Quinn cut his hair and then apologized. It is nice to see a professional athlete who is more worried about just getting on the field and playing then trading insults with somebody who obviously has too much time on his hands.

Talking Heads

I am sick and tired of hearing so called political experts on all of the networks. In the days after the debate we had people like Fred Barnes and Mort Kondracke saying there was no winners in the debate. There was Bob Beckel claiming that the second tier candidates were now fifth tier. We also had Dick Morris claiming that McCain had won the debate. All of the conservative polls I have seen has Mitt Romney and Ron Paul having won the debate. Several other columnists agree that many of the second tier candidates, like Mike Huckabee, looked presidential and had elevated themselves.

I think it is time to shake up the talking heads. The problem is we have all of these old political "experts" who apparently never get out of their own inner circle. They look at a couple of national polls that have no bearing whatsoever on the primary process and decide what three candidates they want to anoint as their top tier. Their problem this time around is the Republican primary is truly up in the air and not just an anointment of the next in line and they will have to do some real work to figure this one out. They go on and on that we should not have ten candidates to choose from. I would argue that the more candidates that we have to choose from the better chance we have to find a true conservative and have a chance to vote for someone we truly believe in instead of just the better of two evils.

Special Report with Brett Hume is my favorite show by far on Fox, but as we head into this new election cycle he needs to shake up the panel at the end of the show. Instead of the current set up of one staunch liberal, one moderate liberal and one big business Republican he should have one liberal, one moderate independent and a true conservative Republican who believes in constitutional restraint.

I would like to end with this, we have a real chance to show how out of touch the media is with the every day American. As grassroots activists, we have a chance to show the media that America is more that those who made it on their polling lists. We the people are the majority of the population who have to work hard to support their families and who are more conservative than the media wishes to admit. And we must speak up and let them know we don't want just candidates who happen to be rich (how could they ever represent blue collar families?) or have the ability to raise millions of dollars by saying what they think we want to hear and not how they would truly lead. We want candidates, like Mike Huckabee who can take the money he has raised and budget it and make it stretch by campaigning in a manner that more closely represents the way Americans must live.
