The Arkansas Ethics Commission created under the rein of Bill Clinton, has been misused as a weapon against Republicans. Governor Huckabee has been unfairly attacked regarding his ethics history while Governor of Arkansas. The overwhelming majority of the complaints were filed in the midst of one of Governor Huckabee's campaigns, and filed by Democrats to a commission made up of a vast majority of Democrats. The end result of those complaints was a series of negative headlines-and NOTHING else. Here are the facts:
The overwhelming majority of ethics complaints filed against Governor Huckabee in the state of Arkansas were regularly dismissed and / or proven to be frivolous.
It is important to note that many of these complaints were either filed by a member of the Arkansas media with his own agenda or were filed by a Democrat activist using the so-called reporter's story as the basis for the complaint.
The REAL story is that in the end, despite the many attempts, the only finding of an illegal gift was reversed on appeal.
Little Rock, AR – Former Arkansas Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee proudly announced the endorsements of several influential members of the Southern Baptist Convention (SBC), a group representing more than 16 million members who worship in more than 42,000 churches in the United States.
“I’m thrilled to have an impressive list of current and past Southern Baptist Convention leaders stand by my side,” Huckabee said.
The term "Southern Baptist Convention" refers to both the denomination and its annual meeting. Southern Baptists share a common bond of basic Biblical beliefs and a commitment to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ to the entire world.
The list of SBC members endorsing Huckabee includes:
- Dr. Jack Graham – Plano, Tex.
- Dr. James T. Draper Jr. – Colleyville, Tex.
- Dr. Jerry Vines – Woodstock, Ga.
- Dr. Daniel L. Akin – Wake Forest, N.C.
- Dr. Jay Strack – Orlando, Fla.
- Dr. Billy McCormack – Shreveport, La.
“Mike Huckabee is clearly the most articulate spokesman for conservative values in today's political arena. He is a wise and proven leader,” said Dr. Jack Graham, pastor of Prestonwood Baptist Church and former president of the Southern Baptist Convention. “He is a man who lives and governs by principal and is, in my view, uniquely prepared to lead our nation.”
Dr. James T. Draper Jr. is a former president of Southern Baptist Convention and former president of Lifeway Christian Resources. “I support Mike Huckabee for President because I have known him for over 30 years and know him to be a man of absolute integrity and sterling character,” Dr. Draper said. “He has the strength of convictions that will enable him to be a great leader.”
Dr. Jerry Vines twice served as president of Southern Baptist Convention and is former pastor of First Baptist Church of Jacksonville, Fla. He is founder of Jerry Vines Ministries in Woodstock, Ga. “Having known Governor Mike Huckabee for 30 years and observed his character, convictions and courage in public life, I wholeheartedly endorse him in his bid to become President of the United States,” Dr. Vines said.
Dr. Daniel Akin is president of Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary in Wake Forest, N.C. “Mike Huckabee is the kind of man our country needs in a leader. He believes in those things that exemplify the best in our nation,” Dr. Akin said. “His values and convictions make him a leader worth following. I am delighted he is running for president and he has both my prayers and support.”
Dr. Jay Strack is president and founder of Student Leadership University and a world- renowned Southern Baptist communicator and minister in Orlando, Fla. “Mike Huckabee has brought clarity, compassion, and competency to every assignment and role he has been given,” Dr. Strack said. “He does not blink answering hard or tough questions and does so in a manner that does not alienate the inquirer.”
Dr. Billy McCormack is pastor of University Baptist Church and founding National Board Member of Christian Coalition. “Mike is not only well equipped for the presidency, he has demonstrated godly and righteous leadership in government which commends him to every evangelical who wants a firm and resolute hand on the helm of our ship of state,” Dr. McCormack said. “He will unify evangelicals nationwide in one giant move toward the nomination at first and the general election to follow. He is America's logical choice.”

"I'm thrilled to have Dean and Andrea on our team. They have a great reputation in Texas and across the nation," Gov. Huckabee said.

"His poll numbers continue to climb and so does our confidence that Mike Huckabee could be the unifying conservative standard bearer the GOP base has been craving."

"This is a terrific development for the campaign. I look forward to working with the McWilliams and benefiting from their counsel as we plan our strategy to win votes in Texas ," said Huckabee.
LITTLE ROCK, AR - Former Arkansas Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee issued the following statement today regarding James Dobson:
"There is no imminent campaign announcement about his support - and my campaign has not said there is, despite wild Internet rumors and some press accounts to the contrary. I have also spoken personally to him about the matter."

Dr. James Dobson, who has largely been made irrelevant to the 2008 Republican presidential race, has apparently found his man, and according to an adviser, is ready to change the landscape of the Republican nomination race.
"He is the leader of the evangelical and social conservative movement in America, and he's going to reassert that position and leave no doubt that he's in charge," says the adviser based in Colorado. [read more]
Press Release: Mike Huckabee Comments About Endorsement Rumors
Two national Catholic organizations, the Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights and the Society of Catholic Social Scientists, are working in a joint effort to petition Pope Benedict XVI to expedite the cause for the beatification of Pope Pius XII.
It is our strongly held conviction that Pope Pius XII has been unfairly portrayed as someone who stood silent during the Holocaust. Indeed, we know of no world leader who did more to resist the Nazis and rescue Jews than this great man. To depict him otherwise is to slander him, and this is not something Catholics will ever accept.
Petition to His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI
for the Beatification of Pope Pius XII
With profound respect and sincere devotion, We, the undersigned, humbly request that the cause for the beatification of Pope Pius XII proceed without delay. Pius XII’s virtuous life speaks for itself and is supported by an abundance of incontestable documentary evidence. The truth regarding his service to the Church and the World, as a diplomat and during his pontificate, prior to and through the World War II period, is also historically established. He has been the victim of an unjust smear campaign for fifty years. Now, however, overwhelming evidence has been amassed that proves beyond doubt that he labored without pause for peace, that he sought to assist in every way possible the victims of war, especially Jews, hundreds of thousands of whom were spared through his efforts, and that he constantly warned the world of the horrors of Nazism and Communism. We urge that you honor this holy and brave Pontiff at the soonest possible date.

Toy Containing 'Date-Rape' Drug Pulled
Posted: 2007-11-08 11:53:07
WASHINGTON (Nov. 7) - Millions of Chinese-made toys for children have been pulled from shelves in North America and Australia after scientists found they contain a chemical that converts into a powerful date rape drug when ingested. Two children in the U.S. and three in Australia were hospitalized after swallowing the beads.
With only seven weeks until Christmas, the recall is yet another blow to toy industry - already bruised by a slew of recalls this past summer.
In the United States, the toy goes by the name Aqua Dots, a highly popular holiday toy distributed by Toronto-based Spin Master Toys. They are called Bindeez in Australia, where they were named toy of the year at an industry function earlier this year.
It could not immediately be learned whether Aqua Dots beads are made in the same factories as the Bindeez product. Both are sold by Australia-based Moose Enterprises.
The toy beads are sold in general merchandise stores and over the Internet for use in arts and crafts projects. They can be arranged into designs and fused together when sprayed with water.
Scientists say a chemical coating on the beads, when ingested, metabolizes into the so-called date rape drug gamma hydroxy butyrate. When eaten, the compound - made from common and easily available ingredients - can induce unconsciousness, seizures, drowsiness, coma and death. [read more]

PRESS CHINA ON RELIGIOUS LIBERTIES
Catholic League president Bill Donohue discussed what he is doing about the Chinese government’s decision to ban athletes from bringing Bibles to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games:
“I am writing today to the 15-member Executive Board of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) in Switzerland asking for an immediate investigation into allegations that the Communist Chinese government plans to violate the Olympic Charter by banning athletes from bringing Bibles to the 2008 Olympic Games.
“Principle #5 of the Fundamental Principles of Olympism in the Olympic Charter reads, ‘Any form of discrimination with regard to a country or a person on grounds of race, religion, politics, gender or otherwise is incompatible with belonging to the Olympic Movement.’ Under Chapter Two, Rule 23, Paragraph 1.6 of the Charter, the Executive Board of the IOC has the power to withdraw the right of the host city to organize the Olympic Games if the Charter is violated. However, Paragraph 3 says, ‘Before applying any measure or sanction, the competent IOC body may issue a warning.’ Accordingly, I am asking the IOC to do just that. If the warning fails, then the Catholic League will petition the IOC to deny China the 2008 Olympic Games.
“In addition to violating religious liberties, the Chinese government is guilty of gross hypocrisy. On the website of the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games, there are several comments lauding religious rights. For example, it says, ‘China is a country with religious freedom and respects every religion.’ It also posts a statement of October 17, 2007 titled, ‘Beijing Olympics Will Provide High-Level Service on Religion.’ Moreover, just four days later—for the first time in its history—the Communist Party of China amended its Constitution to guarantee religious liberty. Indeed, Ye Xiaowen, China’s Director of the State Administration of Religious Affairs, boasted that the Beijing Olympics would respect religious liberties. Yet he is the same person who now says Bibles have been banned! But no matter, we won’t let them get away with this.”

Little Rock, AR – Former AR Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee said he was disappointed that one of his political mentors endorsed another Republican candidate based on information that was factually incorrect.
"I love Paul Weyrich and he has been a political mentor to me. It hurts that he has accepted some misinformation as fact, but I will forever respect and appreciate him. I will continue to support Paul even if he doesn't support me, " Huckabee said. "One thing is for sure---when I was a 23 year old communications director for a Christian organization that helped launch Christian involvement in public affairs, Paul Weyrich was one of my heroes and I'll bet in the late 70's and 80's Mitt Romney wasn't listening to cassette tapes of Paul Weyrich speeches like I was. "
Weyrich wrote of Huckabee "I like him and he certainly is somebody who can give a stemwinder but I have learned so many things about his waffling positions."
One of the virtues of the Huckabee campaign is that the issues he supports today are the same issues he supported while serving as lieutenant governor and governor of Arkansas. Huckabee participated in the annual Right-to-Life March down Capitol Avenue in Little Rock
Huckabee successfully led efforts to promote a human life amendment and marriage amendment in Arkansas and, as President, would lead the charge for similar amendments at the federal level.
"My position on the sanctity of life has always been clear and consistent. It is the same with my views on marriage. The institution of marriage is between a man and a woman. I have never supported gay marriage or civil unions," Huckabee said.
Weyrich took the word of two people outside the mainstream of Republican politics who falsely claimed Arkansas' Republican Party is in shambles.
Dennis Milligan, chairman of the Republican Party of Arkansas, strongly disagrees with the idea that the party is in shambles.
"The Republican Party of Arkansas is not in shambles. While the party has never held the majority of elected offices, the Republican Party reached a high-water mark while Mike Huckabee was governor.
"In 2006, when Governor Huckabee left office because of term limits and Lt. Governor Win Paul Rockefeller died, Democrats where able to win the top two state constitutional offices. Arkansas wasn't the only state where Democrats won a lot of state and federal elections that year. It was a national trend and blaming Mike Huckabee is just wrong.
"In 2008, Republicans in Arkansas will field strong candidates for the state Legislature, U.S. Senate, Congress, and a favorite son for the White House. That's not a party in shambles," Milligan said.
Weyrich was also misinformed on Huckabee's stand on statehood for the District of Columbia. Huckabee has never supported statehood for the district, but does support citizens living in the District having a representative in the House of Representatives, but not the Senate.
"I have great respect for Paul Weyrich and I want him to know the truth," Huckabee said.
Little Rock, AR – Former Arkansas Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee announced the launch of his Arkansas GOP Leadership team today – a group that includes a growing list of current and former federal and state Republican officials from the Natural State.
“Republicans in Arkansas have a long track record of taking on difficult tasks, overcoming tremendous challenges and winning battles that no one thought we could win,” Huckabee said. “Despite being in a mostly Democrat state, we had great success in cutting taxes, passing pro-life legislation, fighting for the family, improving education and highways and making government more efficient.” [read more]
If this is enacted an estimated 1.5 million illegals aliens (and their spouses, children, and eventually other family members which could push the total to three million or many more) would be rewarded for spitting on our sovereignty and our laws with amnesty. It would also provide protection for the employers who hired them illegally.
AgJOBS bills will supposedly identify “vacant” agricultural jobs that could be filled by as many as 1.5 million illegal aliens. To apply for legal residency, illegal aliens must demonstrate they have worked agriculture here: (1) 100 work days per year each of the first five years following enactment; (2) 150 work days per year each of the first three years following enactment; or (3) over the course of the first four years after enactment, 150 work days per year for three of those years and 100 work days for the other.
How completely insane has the Congress become? Now if you can provide documentation that you broke our laws and have been working under the table for an employer who should be prosecuted for hiring you we will give you legal status? Who were the brilliant nimrods who voted this Congress in? And, wasn't it because they were so unhappy with the Republican Congress? And, whose approval rating is at 11% (an all time LOW mind you)? Who keeps getting bombarded with angry phone calls every time they try to push their amnesty on us? These idiots need to wake up and smell the coffee or put their money where their mouths are and move these illegals into their neighborhoods and provide for them. Maybe that would change their tune?
Past amnesty for agricultural workers has showen that when illegal aliens working in agriculture are given green cards, they leave agriculture for higher-paying occupations in other areas. Any form of amnesty would bring hundreds of thousands more illegal aliens to the US, some of whom will work agriculture. This would continue to depress wages in all fields and would doom agricultural workers to poverty. AgJOBS would ensure that agricultural workers would never be paid more than minimun wage. It would also mean that taxpayers would continue to have to subsidize the workers, and their families, by providing public benefits such as education, health care, and income supplements (including tax refunds, WIC, and food stamps). For every illegal who receives amnesty there will be an American family who will not be able to receive the same help due to the strain on the system.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics reports 107,000 American agricultural workers were unemployed in April 2004 and that low-skilled workers, many capable of agricultural work, have been the hardest hit by high unemployment. The unemployment rate for American workers without a high-school diploma is almost a third higher. It was even announced in 2004 that America has an oversupply of low-skilled, low-educated workers.
It has also been reported that if legal workers were hired and the rate of pay was raised to a competative level it would only raise the cost of a head of lettuce at the store by 10 cents. So why not secure our borders, enforce our current immigration laws (something like what Oklahoma recently has done) and watch the illegals self deport. Then reform our current immigration laws to make it easier for those who want to learn English and assymilate to earn citizenship and pay them a legal, competative wage so they can pay taxes and support their families. What is so hard about that? Why is that so repulsive to Democrats and elitist Republicans?
This would be a great benefit and asset to our country. We hear that our population is aging and we are not having enough children as a society (prohibiting abortion would take care of that, but that is another post). An increased Hispanic popluation would benefit America in this area since they tend to be family oriented and tend to have large families. These would all be legal, contributing, tax paying citizens without rewarding one person for breaking our laws.
Please contact your Senators and demand that they not only vote no on this amnesty, but put an end to any amnesty attempt. Demand that they instead work to secure our borders and reform our legal immigration system. You may also sign up with NumbersUSA to receive alerts and easy to use faxes and emails to contact your representatives.
Finally, I want to say that this is why we need to nominate an electable, conservative cadidate who will put America and our children's future first, before foreign interests; someone like Mike Huckabee. If you would like to learn more about Mike click here. If you are already a supporter please don't forget to donate to the campaign.

Little Rock, AR – Former AR Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee said today that a new CNN/Opinion Dynamics Poll shows that his GOP presidential campaign is the only one with "significant upward momentum."
Huckabee is now in a virtual dead heat with former Gov. Mitt Romney for third place, with 10 percent of the vote. The former Arkansas governor’s polling numbers have doubled since a similar survey was taken on October 12-14. He is the only candidate experiencing a significant upward trend.
“This poll confirms what we’re feeling on the ground: that my message is really connecting with voters. We’re on a surge, moving up five points in the past two weeks, while others have reached their peak," said Huckabee.
“I keep telling my staff and supporters – we need to keep doing what we're doing. With only two months to go before the Iowa caucus, we need to keep pressing forward,” said Huckabee.
The telephone survey of 1,024 registered Republican voters was conducted Nov. 2- 4, 2007 by the Opinion Research Corporation. There was a plus or minus margin of error of 1-3 percentage points.

Huckabee Builds Evangelical Support

PLANO, Texas (Nov. 5) - As the 2008 presidential race heads toward the first nominating contests, Mike Huckabee is getting more news coverage, moving up in polls, and even drawing some attacks from other Republicans.
Now the former Arkansas governor needs enough money to capitalize. [read more]
Beginning October 20, the Associated Press (AP) ran a three-day series on sexual abuse in the public schools. Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented on it today:
“In its first installment on this issue, the AP called sexual abuse by public school teachers ‘a widespread problem.’ The news wire service, which spent seven months gathering information, pulled no punches: ‘Students in America’s schools are groped. They’re raped. They’re pursued, seduced and think they’re in love. An Associated Press investigation found more than 2,500 cases over five years in which educators were punished for actions from bizarre to sadistic.’ Indeed, it said that on any given school day, three educators are actively hitting on students, thus speaking to ‘a much larger problem in a system that is stacked against victims.’ And as we’ve known for some time, this is because the teachers unions are more interested in the rights of accused teachers than they are the welfare of alleged victims. Who speaks for the kids is a mystery.
“Complicating the cause of justice is the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification. It keeps tabs on guilty teachers but only shares the names among state agencies. No wonder suspended teachers are commonly passed from one school district to another, or from one state to another. So frequent is this phenomenon that it’s called ‘passing the trash’ or the ‘mobile molester.’
“Just as outrageous is the media’s reaction. Even though two weeks have elapsed since the AP story broke, a Nexis search shows that only five newspapers carried the entire series: Daily Breeze (CA), Richmond Times Dispatch (VA), Statesman Journal (OR), Knoxville News-Sentinel (TN) and Inside Bay Area (CA); it was also carried by Connecticut Post Online.
“So where was the Boston Globe, which broke the Catholic scandal, and all the other big media outlets? Just goes to show that it was never the molested who counted, just the identity of the molester.”

The truth is that us conservative Republicans have been cheated on and lied to since the first President Bush so now many of us are finding it hard to trust Governor Huckabee and other conservatives running for election. My question is, is it worth throwing away potentially the greatest conservative leader of our life time? As I look over the issues it is almost impossible to find one that I disagree with the Governor on other than a Federal Smoking Ban.
I can't even remember a time that I agreed with a politician on so much who actually had a chance to win. I don't just think Governor Huckabee can win, I believe he can win as big as Ronald Reagan did in 1980 and 1984. The American people are not looking for a weak, middle of the road politician with no core beliefs. I believe they want a principled candidate who will lead and articulate the positions they take, which is why Governor Huckabee would also be able to appeal to Democrats and Independents.
Every time the Governor is attacked by the Club For Growth or Bill O'Reilly it improves his standing with the every day man and woman out there who is struggling to make ends meet and also believes in God. So are we willing to throw all of that away because of a national smoking ban? Or what ever issue it is for you? I am more than happy to have a candidate that agrees with me 90% of the time and if you agree with me please consider making a donation to Governor Huckabee's campaign.
On this morning’s “Today” show, English atheist Philip Pullman was questioned by Al Roker about his trilogy, His Dark Materials, and the movie which opens December 7 that is based on his first book, The Golden Compass. Roker mentioned that the Catholic League is charging that Pullman’s work is selling “atheism for kids.” Here is Pullman’s response:
“Well, you know I always mistrust people who tell us how we should understand something. They know better than we do what the book means or what this means and how we should read it and whether we should read it or not. I don’t think that’s democratic. I prefer to trust the reader. I prefer to trust what I call the democracy of reading. When everybody has the right to form their own opinion and read what they like and come to their own conclusion about it. So I trust the reader.”
Catholic League president Bill Donohue replied as follows:
“The last thing Pullman trusts is the people. That is why he tries to sneak his atheism in back-door to kids. If he had any courage, he’d defend his work, but instead he continues to do what he does best—practice deceit. This is the same man who boldly exclaimed a few years ago, ‘I’m trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief.’ Now he says that it is undemocratic of us to issue a consumer’s alert (we’ve published a booklet on his work) that exposes his hatred of all things Catholic.
“We at the Catholic League never had to run from our work. How pitiful it is to see a grown man slip kids his poisonous pill and then pretend he trusts the reader. We are so happy to have ripped the mask off his face. And the movie doesn’t even open for another five weeks! This is going to be a good ride. Hope Pullman is up to it.”

LITTLE ROCK, AR - Former AR Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee issued the following statement today regarding an interview by former U.S. Senator Fred Thompson (TN) on NBC's "Meet the Press."
"Senator Thompson's comments on 'Meet the Press' were disappointing and disheartening for those who were expecting him to be a solid voice for conservatives. The marriage and life amendments are critical issues for those of us who have been on the front lines of these cultural battles. Sen. Thompson's philosophy seems to be more 'cut and run' when it comes to these issues, rather than stand and lead.
"I've always supported the passage of a constitutional amendment to protect the right to life. As President, I will fight for passage of a human life amendment. My position on the sanctity of life has always been clear and consistent. No candidate has a stronger record on the sanctity of life than I do. As Governor of Arkansas, I successfully led efforts to promote a human life amendment and marriage amendment in my state. For me, it isn't just talk; it's a conservative record of leadership and conviction."
