Fred on Federalism

US Leads the World … in prison population

Found this on jCircadian. I found it interesting and think it indicates the tendency of the US to overuse and ultimately abuse its prison system. First our prisons should not be so "comfortable". Prisoners don't need all of the privileges and amenities they get in prison. They are there because they committed crimes.

Also, prison should be for rehabilitation. By the time our prisoners are placed back into society chances are they have learned worse criminal behavior than that they were imprisoned for. Due to the gang environment they are exposed to, rapes, beatings and other criminal activities they must endure to survive.

Finally, when they are released they have records that follow them the rest of their lives. For non violent criminals their record should be expunged after a period of time. Otherwise they will never be able to obtain employment or positions that would allow them to become a positive part of society.

Statistics released today by the Bureau of Justice Statistics (BJS), a branch of the US Department of Justice, show that at the end of 2006, more than 2.25 million persons were incarcerated in US prisons and jails, an all-time high. This number represents an incarceration rate of 751 per 100,000 US residents, the highest such rate in the world. By contrast, the United Kingdom’s incarceration rate is 148 per 100,000 residents; the rate in Canada is 107; and in France it is 85. The US rate is also substantially higher than that of Libya (217 per 100,000), Iran (212), and China (119).

“These figures confirm an unenviable record: the United States is the world’s leading prison nation,” said David Fathi, director of the US program at Human Rights Watch. “Americans should ask why the US locks up so many more of its citizens than do Canada, Britain, and other democratic countries. The US is even ahead of governments like China that use prisons as a political tool.”

The US prison population has increased approximately 500 percent in the last 30 years, and continues to grow. The 2006 increase was the largest one-year jump in the last six years. The per capita incarceration rate has also increased steadily, from 684 per 100,000 residents in 2000 to 751 per 100,000 in 2006.

Why I Support Fred Thompson

In the post-9/11 world, immigration is much more of a national security issue. A government that cannot secure its borders and determine who may enter and who may not, fails in a fundamental responsibility. As we take steps to secure our borders and enforce our laws, we must also ensure that our immigration laws and policies advance our national interests in a variety of areas, and that the immigration process itself is as fair, efficient, and effective as possible. [read more]

Recently our blog changed its support to Fred Thompson. For me this change was for many reasons of which the most important (as regular readers can guess) is illegal immigration. After the last Presidential election I learned the importance of having a candidate that puts American sovereignty and Americans before everything else.

The more I see happening in America because of illegal immigration and the more research I did on the candidates' views of immigration the more I realized that Fred Thompson's plans matched my views the closest in all areas. We cannot afford to shoulder the burden of millions of illegals obtaining legal status. We also need a candidate that understands this and will secure our borders, enforce our immigration laws and reform the immigration process so people can more easily become legal to begin with.

The United States is committed to the security of Israel and the safety of the Israeli people. The historical, familial and cultural ties of our peoples are the basis of this commitment. It is strengthened by the shared values and shared interests of our nations. Our mutual goal is an economically and militarily strong Israel at peace with its neighbors. We must exercise our traditional leadership role in the region and continue our longstanding support to Israel to achieve this vision. [read more]

Another reason I am supporting Fred Thompson is because of his strong support for Israel. I want to see American take a strong stand for Israel again. We should defend their right to defend themselves against terror attacks and stop demanding concessions from Israel to gain peace with an enemy whose efforts are counter productive to peace.

A well-educated citizenry is vital to our security, our economy, and our democracy. Despite the tens of billions of dollars spent on education by Washington each year, and the hundreds of federal education programs now in place, our children are still falling behind, particularly in subjects crucial to the global economy in which we live. At a time when America is behind other developed countries in education excellence, the federal role in education is too intrusive and too bureaucratic, and has become part of the problem. State and local governments are closest to the parents, the kids, and the schools, and best situated to implement changes and innovations that best educate children. [read more]

Education (ultimately big government) is huge for me also. I have long believed that the federal government needed to get out of our classrooms and that schools have become too intrusive in parents' rights and choices in their children's education.

Fred On Illegal Immigration

Inconvenient Views

Oklahoma has passed one of the strictest statues in the country regarding illegal immigration (Keep up the good work!). There are plans for further legislation to help deal with the issue. As a Catholic I think it is noteworthy that the quickest growing Catholic parishes in the US are non English speaking with a majority of their parishioners being illegal aliens.

I point this out because of the misguided representation the Catholic faith has received from the mainstream media as supporting the plight of the illegal immigrant. We do not condone illegal immigration or amnesty. The Bible clearly states that we must follow the laws of our land. We cannot pick and choose which ones to follow or decide that charity trumps the law.

I have noticed that the Catholics you see on the news calls for amnesty and tend to have liberal views toward illegal aliens and the immigration issue. I don't see the everyday majority of Catholics like us or our priest being interviewed. Maybe that is because we have a much different, inconvenient view of illegal immigration.

Arizona Lawsuit For Illegal Immigrant Rights Thrown Out

I think it is absurd that US courts are even allowing lawsuits and challenges to US laws by immigrant rights groups. Those they are representing are illegal aliens, they do not have Constitutional rights, they are not citizens. Why not try this; complete the citizenship process, become a legal citizen and what do you know you have rights!

That makes this case and all immigrant rights cases frivolous and who are the ones that shoulder the fall out? The citizens of the United State of America. How long are we supposed to support the free education, legal assistance, health care and federal assistance for illegals when we are being told that we cannot even finance our own social security system?

It is nice to see the laws upheld in the face of traitorous attacks on behalf of illegal intruders.

Ariz. Immigration Law Challenge Tossed

Dec 8, 12:41 PM (ET)

PHOENIX (AP) - A federal judge has thrown out a lawsuit seeking to block a new Arizona law that prohibits people from hiring illegal immigrants and requires businesses to verify whether applicants are eligible for employment.

The law takes effect Jan. 1.

In his ruling on Friday, U.S. District Judge Neil V. Wake wrote that the lawsuit was premature because there was no evidence that anybody had been harmed, and that the plaintiffs - a coalition of business and immigrant rights groups - were suing the wrong people.

The ruling said the law gives only investigatory authority to the governor and state attorney general, who were named as defendants. Wake said county prosecutors, who weren't defendants, actually have the power to enforce the law.

The plaintiffs had asked for a preliminary injunction blocking the law from taking effect.

Julie Pace, an attorney for the business groups, said her clients were meeting Saturday to determine whether to appeal the ruling or file a separate lawsuit against the county prosecutors. She said the business groups could pursue both avenues. [read more]

Rex Grossman - Injury Update

I sincerely hope the Bears don't try and screw Grossman over with his injury from Thursday's game against the Washington Redskins. God had his hands on Grossman for sure because they way Cornelius Griffin rolled over his leg I was sure his ankle was broken. Luckily the medial collateral ligament was merely sprained.

This is in no way any indicates what kind of QB Grossman is, but it does indicate bad blocking by the offense. As stated by David Haugh, I hope this does not effect his being signed when his contract is up. What ever the new year brings for Grossman I hope it shows the critics what a great QB he really is and shuts them all up.

Founding Fathers Quote

The true test is, whether the object be of a local character, and local use; or, whether it be of general benefit to the states. If it be purely local, congress cannot constitutionally appropriate money for the object. Romney: Believer of Convenience

Americans do not respect believers of convenience. Americans tire of those who would jettison their beliefs, even to gain the world." -- Gov. Mitt Romney

We Couldn't Agree More...

Mitt Romney released a new TV ad today where he says he stood firm for things that were "politically incorrect." Here's what the media is saying:

"A bigger threat to [Romney's] Republican presidential candidacy, advisers say, is a record of policy flip-flops and nagging doubts about his credibility." (AP, 12/6/07)

"This Iowa ad attempts to defuse criticism of Mitt Romney as a flip-flopper who changed his stance on key social issues. But it engages in revisionist history to do so. (Washington Post, 12/07/07)

"Mitt Romney's latest ad, "Not Politically Correct," may have some people wondering if the TV spot is strategically correct because it outlines positions that may renew charges of flip-flopping. (New York Times, 12/07/07)

"When he was running for governor, however, Mr. Romney stuck to a socially liberal platform, including supporting abortion rights. Mr. Romney has said repeatedly during this election cycle that his position evolved. He's also been criticized for his past record supporting gay rights. (New York Times, 12/07/07)

"Romney ran for governor of Massachusetts in 2002 on a pledge to support abortion rights. To portray him as a champion of life at the time is simply misleading.... But the ad's suggestion that Romney was a consistent opponent of abortion is not supported by his record.

"The commercial appears to be aimed at reassuring evangelical Christian voters that Romney took bold stances on issues important to them. But it relies on a selective reading of his record. (Washington Post, 12/07/07)

The Gun Controversy Heats Up

With the recent death of Washington Redskin's Sean Taylor and the Nebraska Mall shooting arguments on both sides of the gun control issue are flying over the Internet and media. I firmly believe in protecting our 2nd Amendment right and that this is the only thing keeping criminals from unobstructed predatory behavior.

Our 2nd Amendment right was placed in the Bill of Rights to ensure that the American citizens could defend themselves, their country, and their freedom. Imagine the opportunities that open up for criminals if citizens were suddenly, under no circumstance, not allowed to own any type of weapon.

If you think this could not happen in America you are wrong. It already began the moment we allowed the government to infringe upon our 2nd Amendment right with the first gun control law they passed.

If Sean Taylor had a gun in his possession at the time of the break-in he might be alive today. If a victim or witness in the Nebraska mall shooting had a legally concealed gun they may have been able to prevent 9 deaths and 5 injuries. Guns are not the problem in the gun control issue. The problem is the criminals and citizens being restricted from carrying guns in public.

Imagine a society that allowed their citizens the freedom to arm and protect themselves and you have a society with very little crime. Criminals would think twice about attacking someone if there was a probability that they were armed.

South Carolina Citizens for Life tells that it wants the former Tennessee senator to be the Republican presidential nominee.

Holly Gatling, the group's executive director, said her organization believes "Fred Thompson is the pro-life candidate in the strongest position to defeat pro-abortion Rudy Giuliani and then to defeat the pro-abortion Democrat nominee."

Gatling pointed out that the group appreciated his 100 percent record on pro-life issues in the Senate and said he "believes in the sanctity of human life and that every life is worthy of respect." [read more]

Bella Actor, Verastegui, Shares Heartwarming Story

Bella Movie's Lead Actor Talks More About Baby He Saved From Abortion

by Steven Ertelt Editor
December 6, 2007

Hollywood, CA ( -- Millions of Americans have enjoyed the soft pro-life theme of the movie Bella, that has been one of Hollywood's success stories despite the limited number of theaters showing the film. Now its lead actor Eduardo Verastegui is sharing more details about the baby saved from an abortion as he prepared for his role in the film.

In June 2006, first reported the heartwarming story Verastegui shared at a private showing of the film.

Bella's producers wanted to keep the story private for fear of making their movie appear to be a polemic political statement on abortion.

In a statement released on Thursday, Verastegui, for the first time, publicly discusses what happened. [read more]

Canada Considering Bill To Protect Unborn Children

Canada Bill to Protect Pregnant Women, Unborn Children to Receive Vote

by Steven Ertelt Editor
December 6, 2007

Ottawa, Canada ( -- Lawmakers in the Canadian parliament will finally have an opportunity to vote on a bill that holds criminals accountable when they attack a pregnant woman and kill or injure her unborn child. The Standing Committee on Procedure and House Affairs says bill C-484 can receive a vote.

Unlike in the United States, Canada law does not recognize the unborn child as a second victim in criminal attacks. A baby is not considered a human being worthy of legal protection until after birth.

The committee's decision means the measure will get a vote and not just a debate, as has happened before.

Peter Ryan, the director of New Brunswick Right to Life, told he is elated by the decision.

"This is the news we've been waiting for," he said and added that the legislation, sponsored by Edmonton Sherwood Park MP Ken Epp, "would recognize the unborn in Canadian law." [read more]

Fred Thompson Receives Endorsement of Judge Paul Pressler

Texas Leader Supports Thompson for President

McLean, VA-Today former Texas Court of Appeals Judge Paul Pressler endorsed
Fred Thompson for President.

"Fred Thompson has the experience, convictions and dedication to make him a great candidate and a great President," said Judge Pressler. "He knows Washington but is not part of the Washington system. Fred is the consistent conservative in the presidential race and is the most electable."

Judge Paul Pressler is a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Texas Law School. He was a Texas state legislator and went on to serve as a District Judge from 1970 to 1978. Judge Pressler was appointed Justice of the Texas Court of Appeals in 1978 and served until 1992. He has since retired but maintains an active international private practice. As a young attorney and family man, Judge Pressler was deeply concerned over the theological drift he saw in the Southern Baptist Convention. He was one of the two chief architects of the "Conservative Resurgence" of the SBC in the late '70s and early '80s. Because of his tireless efforts, he is revered among Southern Baptists as a warrior and hero.

"I am deeply grateful to receive the endorsement of Judge Paul Pressler. Judge Pressler is a leader of great integrity," said Senator Thompson. "His service in the legislative and judicial branches of government provides him a unique perspective on the role of the Presidency. In his private life, he has been a stalwart conservative leader in the Southern Baptist Convention and is deeply respected and influential. I appreciate his confidence in me, my consistent record, and my plans for our country."

Fred Thompson Receives Endorsement of Wisconsin Right to Life

State's National Right to Life Affiliate Supporting Thompson

McLean, VA - Today, Fred Thompson received the endorsement of the Wisconsin Right to Life political action committee (PAC), Wisconsin's premier right-to-life PAC.

"The Wisconsin Right to Life PAC is proud to endorse Fred Thompson," said Susan Armacost, WRTL/PAC Director. "Fred Thompson's stellar 100% right to life voting record and his personal commitment to the protection of human life is deeply appreciated by our organization. We strongly believe in his ability to win the presidential election."

WTRL is a state affiliate of the National Right to Life Committee, the nation's largest single-issue right-to-life organization. The National Right to Life Committee has also endorsed Senator Thompson for President.

"I'm blessed and honored to have the endorsement of Wisconsin Right to Life PAC for President of the United States," said Senator Fred Thompson. "Wisconsin Right to Life PAC carries a tremendous amount of influence with the voters in Wisconsin. These folks in America's heartland know I have stood with them yesterday, I stand with them today, and will stand with them tomorrow and they know I have the ability to win this election. They know I believe in the sanctity of life and as President I will do all that I can to do to protect life."

Fred Thompson is a strong advocate for pro-life issues:

He believes in the sanctity of human life and that every life is worthy of respect.
He had a 100% pro-life voting record in the Senate and believes Roe v. Wade was a bad decision that ought to be overturned.
He consistently opposed federal funding to promote or pay for abortion and supported the Partial Birth Abortion Ban Act, the Child Custody Protection Act, and President Reagan's Mexico City policy.
He opposes assisted suicide. With regard to end of life matters, he believes families should make those decisions. In cases of division over effective life sustaining treatment, he hopes the benefit of the doubt is given to life.
While Fred Thompson supports adult stem cell research, he opposes embryonic stem cell research.
He also opposes human cloning.

What About Them Bears?

I am now prepared for tonight's game. I have the food, the beverages, and an the attitude. I see tonight's game being close. I am not going to trash talk the Redskins as I normally would out of respect for Sean Taylor, but I do call the win for the Bears.

I know the Redskins really want a win for Sean, but I think that will work as a distraction against them. The Bear's defense will be our weak spot and the game will be close. I see a lot of dropped balls and turnovers by both teams, but in the end Grossman will come through for us.

Tin Man - Mini Series On SciFi Channel

There is a mini series out on the SciFi Channel that I highly recommend called Tin Man. It is a very different twist on "The Wizard of OZ". At first I did not think it would be very good, but was interested in watching it. It has a great story line, is completely unexpected, and I enjoyed it and found myself looking forward to each day's Chapter (since it was broken into three different days).

It is not for young children; it is definitely an adult version, but for those of us who grew up watching "The Wizard of OZ" every year on TV it was a treat. It will be re-aired on Sunday, December 9, 2007, at 5/4 PM if you would like to watch it for yourself.

Senator Thompson's Common Sense Plan To Lower Oil Prices

There is nothing like being in the middle of a Presidential Election cycle to bring out all of the bold 10 and 20 year energy independence plans. That is all fine and dandy, but what about something dealing with the oil prices now? Well look no further than Senator Fred Thompson. Of course he has a long term energy independence plan also, but here are some common sense ideas he has to lower energy prices in the short term.

Thompson: Tapping Arctic oil will help reduce gas prices

Associated Press Writer

PICKENS, S.C. -- Republican presidential candidate Fred Thompson said Wednesday that tapping oil reserves in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge would help lower gas prices.

"We've got this silly battle going on about ANWR," said Thompson, who voted in favor of drilling the refuge as a former Tennessee senator. [read more]

Catholic League News Release

Catholic League president Bill Donohue offered his latest remarks today on “The Golden Compass,” which opens on Friday:

“The screenwriter, Chris—‘American Pie’—Weitz, got himself into another sticky situation when he told Variety, ‘People are essentially misreading and misrepresenting a book that is full of good values.’ Commenting on a similar remark by Weitz, Hanna Rosin noted in The Atlantic Monthly that Weitz ‘hadn’t quite realized that the loudest part of Pullman’s fan base regarded that interpretation as a cop-out.’

“Pullman’s most conspicuous fan base is, and the anger expressed there regarding the watering down of the anti-Catholic bigotry is palpable. The website’s review of the movie says, ‘The removal of the religious motivations makes the institution [Catholic Church] incredibly bland, a mere band of thugs with a domineering power for no apparent reason.’ They’re disappointed that the thugs aren’t priests. In the latest issue of the U.K. magazine The Big Issue (available on the fan website), it complains that the film is guilty of ‘toning down Pullman’s at times brutal attacks on the Catholic church.’

“Lou Lumenick in the New York Post was totally honest when he wrote that ‘Bill Donohue of the Catholic League has been publicizing the movie by claiming it’s an anti-religious tract, as much as it pains me to say so…[he] may actually have something of a point. You don’t need to be a Jesuit scholar to figure out that the film’s bad guys who keep complaining about heretics…are clearly meant to be reps of the Catholic Church.’ Similarly, Mark Morford of calls Pullman’s books ‘aggressively anti-Christian,’ but he is also chagrined that the movie denies him the red meat that Catholic bashers feed on.

“Best of all is American Atheists and the U.K.’s National Secular Society. They are furious about being undernourished. The leader of the latter was quite revealing when he said, ‘We knew from the beginning that the producers of this film intended to leave out the anti-religious references. We think this is a great shame.’ Exactly our point—it’s Pullman’s trilogy, not the film, that really sells atheism to kids.”

Fred Thompson Statement on the National Intelligence Estimate

McLean, VA - Fred Thompson released the following statement today on the latest National Intelligence Estimate (NIE) regarding Iran:

"The accuracy of the latest NIE on Iran should be received with a good deal of skepticism. Our intelligence community has often underestimated the intentions of adversaries, including Saddam Hussein's Iraq and North Korea. And are all of the CIA detractors now going to take intelligence pronouncements at face value? It's awfully convenient for a lot of people: the administration gets to say its policies worked; the Democrats get to claim we should have eased up on Iran a long time ago: and Russia and China can claim sanctions on Iran are not necessary. Who benefits from all this? Iran.

"And what if the NIE estimate is accurate? It's essentially an analysis of Iran's intentions at a point in time. Meanwhile, Iran continues to enrich uranium for allegedly peaceful purposes, but which would allow them to easily transition to a nuclear weapons program at any point in the future. Maybe even now--now that so many seem willing to forget Iran's past deceptions and ongoing intransigence. After all, a nuclear weapons program is simply an extension of the process by why uranium is enriched for civilian nuclear fuel. To this day Iran has yet to comply with international demands and its Nuclear Non Proliferation Treaty requirements for open inspections and other safeguard measures.

"The bottom line is that the United States must continue to improve its human intelligence capabilities and intelligence analysis. We must hope for the best, but not let our guard down for a moment. If something appears to be too good to be true, it very well may be."

Naked, Deaf Man Tasered In His Own Home

Here is an article that really made my blood boil. Notice how frankly and easily police departments feel they can explain away the use of tasers no matter how unjust it was. In this article it states that the police were worried about their own safety. What were they worried about? Did they think he had a gun hidden in his towel? Maybe he was hiding some other weapon he may have pulled out and beat them with. Give me a break!

All they had was a phone call stating there was a shooting, they had not verified anything when they broke into this home and tasered a deaf, naked man for no reason. Now imagine your self at home, you have just gotten out of the tub and wrap a towel around yourself, you walk into your hallway and there are armed police screaming at you and then you are tasered; naked and wet.

Can you honestly tell me anyone could not tell immediately tell he was no threat? Please! This just further makes my point that police departments are too trigger happy with tasers with no regard to the true nature of what they are doing, torturing a human being.

Donnell Williams had just gotten out of the bath tub, wearing only a towel around his waist, when he turned the corner to see guns pointing right at him.

"I ain't never been so scared," says Williams.

Police forced entry into Williams home while responding to a shooting, but it turned out to be a false call. They had no idea at the time the call wasn't real and that Williams is hearing impaired. Without his hearing aid he is basically deaf.

"I kept going to my ear yelling that I was scared. I can't hear! I can't hear!"

Officers were worried about their own safety because at the time it appeared Williams was refusing to obey their commands to show his hands. That's when they shot him with a Taser. [read more]

Fred Thompson Believes You Should Decide What's For Dinner

Here is a refreshing story. Fred Thompson actually believes that you should be able to decide what you want to eat. With the way politicians are moving to ban or regulate every activity it is nice to see that there is still a politician who believes in limited government and the ability of Americans to make their own decisions. Imagine that!

SPARTANBURG, South Carolina (CNN) — Fred Thompson wants the government to keep its hands off your dinner plate.

That's what he told a questioner Tuesday in South Carolina, anyway.

Standing about 15 feet away from a mouth-watering steam tray buffet loaded with fried chicken, creamed corn and macaroni and cheese at Wade's Southern Cooking in Spartanburg, Thompson dismissed the idea that preventative care and wellness education should be central features of a government's health care system. Statement by Fred Thompson on Venezuela's Referendum

McLean, VA - Senator Thompson today released the following statement on Venezuela's Referendum:

"Today we congratulate millions of Venezuelans for voting in favor of freedom and democracy and against the constitutional dictatorship proposed by Hugo Chavez.

"By courageously opposing an autocrat who has successfully sought to intimidate and terrorize his own people as he rolls back democracy, Venezuelans have at least temporarily saved their country from Castro-style totalitarian rule.

"All of us who believe in freedom, democracy, and respect for basic human rights should celebrate this important victory."

Statement by Fred Thompson on First Amendment Ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit

McLean, VA - Sen. Fred Thompson released the following statement today in response to a ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 8th Circuit - Americans United for Separation of Church and State v. Prison Fellowship - regarding an important First Amendment ruling on religious programming in prisons.

"The 8th Circuit Court of Appeals opinion appears to allow Prison Fellowship's privately funded, voluntary prisoner rehabilitation programs in Iowa's prisons to continue. Prison inmates face daunting odds: statistically, two-thirds of them will be rearrested within three years of their release. As a society, we must do something to reduce this number and help returning inmates break the cycle of crime. Prison Fellowship's program has already demonstrated great promise. This ruling will allow faith-based prison programming to continue in order to improve the odds of successful reentry into society. This decision represents a win for the State of Iowa, for Prison Fellowship, and for anyone concerned about reducing recidivism."

Catholic League News Release

In the latest exchange of letters with the New York City Department of Education (DOE), Catholic League president Bill Donohue wrote to the DOE’s General Counsel, Michael Best, asking to provide equal treatment for Christian religious symbols in the schools; Jewish and Muslim religious symbols are permitted, but not Christian ones. Best refuses to answer the single question that Donohue asked, and instead simply says that the courts have upheld the DOE’s policy. See our
news release of November 21 and click here to read the latest exchange.

Today, Donohue commented further on this issue:

“It is plain that although New York City is not barred by the courts from permitting a crèche alongside the menorah and star and crescent, it has elected to do so. This is not a matter for the courts, but for the legislature. City Councilman Tony Avella has introduced a resolution that would grant parity to Christians, but it has not been voted upon yet.

“Accordingly, I am writing today to every member of the city council asking that the Avella resolution be put to a vote. I am also writing to Mayor Bloomberg asking him to join this issue.

“Everyone knows that Israel would never allow nativity scenes in the schools while banning menorahs, telling Jews to be satisfied with secular symbols. And it is beyond comprehension to think that in the Islamic world, crèches would be permitted but not the star and crescent. So why is it that in a nation where 85 percent of the population is Christian, Catholics and Protestants are told to be satisfied with Christmas trees while Jews and Muslims get to display their religious symbols?”

Blogs For Borders Video Blogburst

Blogs For Borders have been putting out these great videos for a while; and while I enjoy them I have never posted one. Now we are quickly approaching the primaries and I am shocked to hear that several presidential candidates do not understand why so many of us are so disenfranchised with our government over illegal immigration and their failure to secure our borders.

It is because of things like these 100% Preventable crimes these videos are helping to bring into the open. Let's do an all out push to get all of the candidates on the record in detail. No more "Oh, I'll secure the border" with no follow up details. If they truly believe in border security then they should have a plan on how to achieve it.

If they are not willing to give you details then they are not really with you on the issue and they do not take your concerns seriously. Any candidate who does not take the law and the security of the American people seriously does not deserve to be President. So before you cast your vote know where your candidate stands on this vital issue.

Founding Fathers Quote

It becomes all therefore who are friends of a Government based on free principles to reflect, that by denying the possibility of a system partly federal and partly consolidated, and who would convert ours into one either wholly federal or wholly consolidated, in neither of which forms have individual rights, public order, and external safety, been all duly maintained, they aim a deadly blow at the last hope of true liberty on the face of the Earth.

Catholic League News Release

On December 7, Gener8Xion Entertainment, a prominent Protestant film company, will release “Noëlle.” Catholic League president Bill Donohue disputes the claim that the movie is merely “a parable of forgiveness and grace”:

“We’ve seen the movie and it’s a gem. In the synopsis provided by Gener8Xion, it accurately describes Jonathan Keene as ‘a young Catholic priest seemingly devoid of genuine human emotion’; his job is ‘to do what he does best: shut down a failing parish.’ Then there is ‘the child-like Fr. Simeon Joyce, a faithful but disillusioned priest who blatantly disregards church regulations, uses church monies to pay an old fisherman’s medical bills and spends most of his time drinking at the local pub.’ Both priests are portrayed as losers.

“Viewers learn that the only reason Fr. Keene became a priest is because he felt guilty about getting a girl pregnant when he was in college; to top things off, he pressured her to have an abortion. Fr. Joyce, the alcoholic, has serious reservations about celibacy and his idea of heaven is a jolly good Christmas party. Fr. Joyce tells Fr. Keene he wants to marry a woman named Marjorie so he can help raise her illegitimate kid, saying he ‘made a vow to God not to the Church.’ But Fr. Keene, a first-class klutz, is also in love with the same woman: he is shown bolting in the middle of Midnight Mass to be with her, knocking over a filled chalice and ripping off his vestments.

“Throughout the film, confession is trivialized, celibacy is ridiculed, the Virgin Mary is disrespected, nuns are belittled, last rites are mocked, and priestly vocations are caricatured. In short, that which is uniquely Catholic is trashed. However, the plot and the acting are so deliriously absurd that it is impossible for us to get too worked up about this flick.

“It means nothing that the movie has a pro-life message. Stereotypes about Protestant ministers abound, raising the question, Why didn’t Gener8Xion choose to mock one of their own clergy? Similarly, given that the film’s writer, David Hall, has said that his primary interest was in ‘dealing with hypocrisy,’ why didn’t he consult with Sen. Charles Grassley about all those ‘prosperity church’ pastors being investigated for ripping off their flock? We know why, and that’s why the Catholic League exists.”

News Release: Huckabee Campaign Denounces Push Polling In Iowa

December 03, 2007

LITTLE ROCK. AR -- Former Arkansas Governor and Presidential Candidate Mike Huckabee strongly denounced push polling activities in Iowa.

"Our campaign has nothing to do with the push polling and I wish they would stop. We don't want this kind of campaigning because it violates the spirit of our campaign. I don't want to become President because I disabled the other candidates, I want to become President because I am the best candidate," said Huckabee during a press interview in Iowa this morning.

National Campaign Manager Chip Saltsman agreed: "Anyone who has the slightest understanding of the race in Iowa and the mindset of Iowans would know this sort of activity is extremely counterproductive. It takes the campaign off message at a time when Governor Huckabee is resonating with voters as never before. It loses votes rather than gains them. It's an underhanded way of doing business that is not welcomed by the campaign and it flies in the face of what Governor Huckabee stands for: integrity and clean politics. On behalf of Governor Huckabee and his campaign, I ask that these calls be stopped immediately."

Tasers - A Weapon Of Choice, A Weapon Of Abuse

So how long are we going to let power hungry, control freaks prey upon the public with tasers? Obviously tasers have opened up a world of acceptable abuse to law enforcement officers that they are increasingly abusing. This has become an unacceptable, first response for officers in subduing those who "get out of line" or not.

When officers are approaching vehicles with tasers already pulled or tasering citizens just for questioning an officer then those tasers need to be taken away and prohibited from being used by law enforcement. It does not matter at what rate these incidents occur. Even one death or injury it too much. Electroshock weapons cause neurological damage and even death and this weapon is being over used. Amnesty International (a liberal organization I normally completely disagree with, which happens to be right on this issue) has documented over 245 deaths that have occurred after the use of tasers. There has even been one case of a person suffering spinal fractures after being shocked by a taser.

There have already been multiple deaths from tasering and the number of taser victims are growing each day. Officers have developed a cold, uncaring attitude towards the use of tasers. They will heckle victims for the pain they experienced, blame the victim for uneccessary use of a taser and threaten to continue tasering even victims who have not resisted anything but simply questioned an intrusion of their rights. Some departments have even claimed that the cause of death was not the taser, but unforeseen health conditions or intoxication. It is not the condition alone that brings on the incident of death, it occurs when coupled with the tasering.

Some law enforcement officers feel it is acceptable to taser anyone for any reason (or no reason at all) and in some cases even feel the pain they inflict is justified. I have heard of and seen of videos where officers will exagerate or change the facts to justify tasering a victim.

As I mentioned before I normally completely disagree with these liberal organizations, however even the United Nations and Amnesty International (I personally think it is a shame that they can call this out for what it is while American authorities defend its use) consider the use of tasers to be a form of torture that can kill. This is due to the acute pain they cause, the heightened potential for abuse because they are perceived as harmless since they do not leave evidence of abuse on the victim's body and because of manufacturer warnings that they can cause death.

In increasing cases police and prisons are using tasers to inflict cruel pain including several well publicized instances in which stun belts were accidentally activated by careless court personnel and criminal defendants were shocked for no justifiable reason.

No one should be handed an instrument of torture and given permission to use it at their discretion and refer to it as harmless. No matter how many officers undergo being tasered themselves for training purposes it does not change the nature of the weapon. What would happen if someone tasered a dog for no apparent reason? Yet police and prisons are doing this to American citizens, in some cases for no justifiable reason? There is something horribly wrong with this picture and the tasers must be removed from the hands of would be judge, jury and executioners.

The Wrong That Must Be Made Right - A Plea For Ramos and Compean

I want to express my outrage that nothing has been done for the political prisoners Ramos and Compean. It has been long know by the public that they should never have been prosecuted, they were only prosecuted because of political agendas and the only witness they had was a lying, drug dealer who used his witness immunity to smuggle drugs into the US.

There was a time in US history where American sovereignty was more important than any other country's demands and there was a time when the enforcement of our laws meant that Aldrete-Davila would not have walked away from his attempted drug smuggling and Ramos and Compean would have been championed as the heroes they are. Now I am reading that Aldrete-Davila sued the US Border Patrol for $5 million for violating his civil rights in the Feb. 17, 2005, shooting incident.

I am saying now what most American's are thinking and saying; Aldrete-Davila has no civil rights. He is not a US citizen and gave up any rights he had in Mexico when he violated US law by crossing our border. There should be a counter suit against Aldrete-Davila for the losses and expenses the US has had to shoulder because of his illegal activities. In fact as a tax paying citizen (since it is my tax dollars paying for all of this) I demand that he be held financially responsible and pay for his crimes behind US bars. Aldrete-Davila was in possession of drugs meant for sale in the US.

This is a terror attack and he is the terrorist whose intent was to bring a weapon of destruction to our streets for money. According to his own family and acquaintances he is very experienced in the drug business and always carries a weapon. These are facts that were purposely withheld from the jury who convicted Ramos and Compean.

The only reason to withhold this information is to ensure that the witness retains credibility and the defendants are found guilty. This means there should also be prosecution of those who are supposed to uphold our laws for knowingly prosecuting innocent men.

Instead, prosecutor Debra Kanof successfully persuaded Judge Cardone at the Ramos-Compean trial to withhold all information regarding the second load from the jury, even threatening the families of the agents with prosecution should they leak word of the second load to the press. [read more]

I have also noticed something I never hear anyone point out. Why does no one call out the fact that Ramos and Compean are Hispanic themselves. Isn't it obvious they have been so harshly and unjustly prosecuted as a warning. If you are Hispanic don't dare interfere with the amnesty agenda or you will be made and example of. It is typical, deal harshly and squash any opposition.

The longer it takes for those responsible for the prosecution and imprisonment of Ramos and Compean to rectify what they have done, the longer those responsible should be thrown in prison for a gross misuse of justice. The only way our justice system and government is going to listen up and step back from it's agenda is if we the people demand it. Continue to contact your representatives and demand they intervene.

Finally, I want to know why President Bush has not pardoned Ramos and Compean. As an American citizen, and a part of we the people who this government works for, I demand that the President fulfill his duty and protect the innocent by immediately pardoning Ramos and Compean and restoring their lives and families. I also call for each and every Presidential candidate to call for their immediate pardon and to state whether they would pardon Ramos and Compean or not. Any Presidential candidate who would not pardon them will not protect the US or her people and does not deserve the nomination.

This whole situation is one deserving of fire and brimstone and I do not want to answer for those sins when I pass from this Earth. If you allow this to happen to Ramos and Compean who is to say it won't someday be YOU!
