Carter wipes away crocodile tears, attacks Israel

Carter wipes away crocodile tears, attacks Israel

Just days after visiting the Jewish state and expressing concern for the safety of Israelis threatened by daily Palestinian attacks, former US President Jimmy Carter on Thursday attacked Israel for allegedly starving the residents of the Gaza Strip to death.

Speaking at the American University in Cairo, Carter emphatically referred to Israel's limited embargo against the Hamas-ruled Gaza Strip as an atrocity, a crime and an abomination.

Despite having not actually stepped foot in Gaza, Carter made the outlandish claim that because of the Israeli embargo on some non-essential goods, the residents of Gaza subsist on fewer calories per day than people living in the poorest regions of Africa.

Carter made no mention of the terrorism emanating from Gaza that prompted Israel to imposed the blockade. He also ignored the fact that convoys of Israeli an foreign aid trucks carrying essential goods continue to flow into Gaza on a daily basis despite of the ongoing violence.

Nor did the former president and self-styled peace envoy broach the subject of Hamas bringing millions of dollars into Gaza every month and using most of that money on weapons instead of food and infrastructure.

Pro-life advocates are pressing for the bill to make it so taxpayers aren't forced to fund the abortion business.

Oklahoma City, OK (LifeNews.com) -- The Oklahoma legislature easily overrode a veto from Gov. Brad Henry of a comprehensive bill containing several key limits on abortion. Henry vetoed the bill because it didn't contain an exception in some sections for women who want abortions in cases of rape or incest.

The Oklahoma Senate voted 37-11 to override Governor Brad Henry's veto of the pro-life bill and the House followed suit minutes later on an 85-15 vote [

MILWAUKEE -- The Milwaukee Bucks today relieved Larry Krystkowiak of his head coaching duties, General Manager John Hammond announced. The decision was made after Hammond met with Krystkowiak Thursday morning at the Bucks Training Center in St. Francis, WI. The search for the Bucks new head coach begins immediately.

“Larry Krystkowiak is a good man who worked very hard for the Milwaukee Bucks,” said Hammond. “Sometimes despite even the best efforts, the results don’t end up how we want them. At this time, I feel it is in the best interest of our franchise to make a change at the head coaching position. I want to thank Larry for his hard work and dedication to our team, and our entire organization wishes him and his family well.”

Palestinians ambush, kill 3 Israeli soldiers

Wednesday, April 16, 2008 by Staff Writer

Palestinians ambush, kill 3 Israeli soldiers

Hamas gunmen operating in the northern Gaza Strip on Wednesday executed a well-planned ambush that left three Israeli soldiers dead and two others wounded.

The soldiers had been patrolling the Gaza security fence when they spotted several armed gunmen approaching the de facto border. Fearing an infiltration attempt, the soldiers cross into Gaza to engage the gunmen, but came under intense fire from additional gunmen who had been hiding at various points surrounding the area.

The ensuing battle lasted most of the morning, and also resulted in the deaths of at least seven Palestinian terrorists who were the target of a pinpoint Israeli aerial strike. Palestinian sources claimed that at least two children were also killed in the strike as a result of the terrorists using the local civilian population as a shield against retribution.

Also on Wednesday, Gaza-based Palestinian terrorists fired 19 rockets at communities in southern Israel.

Most of the rockets landed in open areas, but at least one slammed into a neighborhood in a small village and damaged several homes. Another rocket landed in the industrial zone of the hard-hit southern town of Sderot. There were no injuries in the attacks.

In other terror-related news, Israelis were warned this week to avoid traveling to the Sinai Peninsula over the Passover holiday due to concrete intelligence that a terrorist cell operating there intends to harm or abduct Jews.

Despite the warning, several hundred Israelis are believed to be in the Sinai at present, and their numbers are expected to grow with the start of the week-long Passover holiday.

Catholic League News Release

MAHER SET TO APOLOGIZE FOR POPE-NAZI QUIP

Catholic League president Bill Donohue received a phone call today from an HBO executive regarding the league’s news release of April 14 on Bill Maher. Here is what Donohue had to say about it:

“On Monday morning, we issued a news release on Maher’s vicious attack on the pope and the Catholic Church that occurred the previous Friday night on his weekly show. Subsequently, many media outlets picked up on our release and pounded Maher for his bigotry.
Investor’s Business Daily, Mike Gallagher, Steve Malzberg, Les Kinsolving of WorldNetDaily, Newsbusters, Newsmax, Bill O’Reilly, Bill Cunningham, Cybercast News Service, Culture and Media Institute, Relevant Radio’s Drew Mariani and others were justly outraged.

“Today, I spoke to an HBO official and he told me that Maher is expected to apologize tomorrow night for falsely accusing the pope of once being a Nazi. As I said on Monday, ‘Like all young men in Germany at the time, he [Joseph Ratzinger] was conscripted into a German Youth organization (from which he fled as soon as he could).’ I went on to say that ‘Every responsible Jewish leader has acknowledged this reality and has never sought to brand the pope a Nazi.’

“After researching this matter, HBO concurs with this assessment. Apparently, now Maher does as well. Ergo, the apology.

“Will the Catholic League accept Maher’s apology? Assuming it comes across as genuine, the answer is yes. But I hasten to add that what we would really like to see is for Maher to stop with his hateful diatribes against the Catholic Church. So this is a start, but it hardly puts to rest our concerns. After all, there are plenty of factually accurate things Maher could say about other groups that would insult its members, but he chooses not to go there. Perhaps he can add Catholics and the Catholic Church to that protected list as well.”

“NIGHTLINE” GUILTY OF INJUSTICE AND HYPOCRISY

Last night on ABC’s “Nightline,” there was a segment on the sex abuse scandal in the Catholic Church that focused on Chicago Archbishop Francis Cardinal George. It took him to task for the way he handled a case dealing with Rev. Daniel McCormack.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue slammed “Nightline” today:

“What happened last night was incredible. ‘Nightline’ questioned whether accused priests are entitled to due process. A few years ago, as the segment made clear, Cardinal George took back into ministry an accused priest whom the police found innocent. So what? Isn’t this what happens every day in America—those found not guilty resume their jobs? Isn’t this the logical consequence of innocent until proven guilty? The fact that this same priest was later found guilty of groping a male doesn’t change what’s at stake. Moreover, ‘Nightline’ didn’t tell the whole story.

“In the initial case, the police
and the Cook County prosecutors found no credible allegations against McCormack. Interestingly, the Department of Children and Family Services concluded he may be guilty but never notified the archdiocese or the school where the priest was working that it was conducting an investigation. To top it off, the agency didn’t even bother to tell them after
it suspected he may be guilty.

“What is really mind-blowing is ABC’s hypocrisy. In 2003, Steve Bartelstein, the New York anchor at WABC-TV, was accused of sexually harassing and stalking a male writer and producer at the station. WABC launched an investigation and concluded there was no evidence to remove Bartelstein and allowed him to keep his job; he was fired in 2007 for another matter. And last year in Miami, ABC reporter Jeff Weinsier at WPLG was arrested for carrying a loaded gun on school property while investigating school violence. He kept his job, too. But if they were subjected to ABC’s Cardinal George standard, they would have been canned immediately. Does ABC have any shame?
“An apology to Cardinal George, and to all priests, should be made by ABC.” Contact the executive producer at

The Pope Gets It - Will America Listen?

Oversexualization

In an address to U.S. bishops Wednesday night at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception, Benedict called the scandal a "deep shame." He decried the "enormous pain" that communities have suffered from such "gravely immoral behavior."

He also said the problem needs to be viewed in the wider context of secularism and the over-sexualization of America, and called for "a determined, collective response."

Bishop Gregory Aymond of Austin, Texas, chairman of the bishops' Committee for the Protection of Children and Young People, said Benedict made it clear that more work remains and the impact of the scandal damages not just the Catholic church but faith in God.

"Some would say the crisis is over," Aymond said. "As long as victims are still hurting and broken and there is a need for reconciliation, it is still critical. At the same time, we want to recognize that we as a church have moved forward ... The Holy Father gets it." [read more]

Shame On Islam

Shame On Islam
Nancy Morgan
RightBias.com
April 7, 2008

Americans wonder why moderate Muslims don't publicly condemn Islamofascism, terrorism, and the hijacking of their religion by fanatics who use women as suicide bombers and babies as human shields. A question seldom asked is why Americans aren't publicly condemning these atrocities.

The barbarism exhibited by the fanatical faction of Islam is beyond the pale, by any civilized standards. And while America waits for Muslims to step up and condemn these barbarians, we go about our business as usual, condemning instead the unthinkable practice of putting panties on terrorists' heads, and the cruel and unusual punishment of including pork on the menu provided to terrorists incarcerated in Guantanamo.

The irrational hatred of the West by many Muslims is seldom questioned. Instead, a large segment of the American public has taken a cue from them, adopting irrational hatred as a political philosophy. By not condemning irrational hatred, we implicitly endorse it. Just as we implicitly endorse terror tactics by not condemning them. [

President Bush, Pro-Life Groups Welcome Pope Benedict XVI to America

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- President Bush and leading pro-life advocates welcomed Pope Benedict XVI to the United States on Tuesday. The president thanked the pope for standing up for pro-life principles and pro-life groups hope the Catholic Church leader will address abortion and bioethics issues during his visit.

During a Friday interview with EWTN, President Bush said he looked forward to meeting the pope and said he would thank him for supporting elected officials who stand up for life.

"I'm going to remind His Holy Father how important his voice is in making it easier for politicians like me to be able to kind of stand and defend our positions that are, I think, very important positions to take," Bush said.

While President Bush has pleased pro-life advocates during his tenure in office by signing pro-life bills and making sure tax dollars don't go to new embryonic stem cell research, Pope Benedict's visit is already sparking a renewed debate about abortion and communion. [

Malta Bishops Strongly Support Motion Against Abortion at Council of Europe

Strasbourg, France (LifeNews.com) -- The Catholic bishops of Malta released a joint statement on Tuesday saying they strongly oppose a report at the Council of Europe calling on nations to legalize abortion. They urge Maltese representatives to the council to oppose the report to reduce the pressure on Malta to allow abortions.

The bishops join elected officials in Ireland who have spoken out against the report because they don't want the island nation to be pressured to legalize abortion either.

Mgr Paul Cremona and Mgr Mario Grech released the statement together, according to a Malta Star report.

“Abortion is not a choice but murder; abortion is not a right but a negation of the right to life; abortion is not beneficial, neither for society nor for the mother herself," they said. [

"Close"

Statement from Bob Barr on Taxes

April 15th, 2008 by Staff

Atlanta, GA – As Americans rush to complete their tax returns on time, Rep. Bob Barr commented on the expansive, intrusive and burdensome nature of the tax code:

Another April 15th means another year of the American people being over-taxed. Federal revenues already account for nearly 19 percent of GDP, high by historical standards. If the Bush tax cuts expire, the personal income tax burden will jump by a quarter.

Even without such a massive tax hike, the total tax burden is expected to rise. Tax Freedom Day, when Americans finally start working for themselves rather than government, hit April 30th last year, up nearly two weeks over 2003.

The income tax does more than take too much of our money. It violates too much of our privacy and sacrifices too much of our freedom. [

CHUCK BALDWIN: ONLY A MIRACLE CAN SAVE AMERICA NOW

by Chuck Baldwin
Constitution Party 2004 Vice Presidential Candidate

Every four years, conservative "pragmatists" trot out the "We Can’t Let So-And-So Win" mantra. Of course, the so-and-so in question is always the Democratic Presidential candidate. For all of my adult life, I have been listening to so-called "conservative" Republicans warn us of the impending doom that would befall our country if the Democratic candidate were elected. And this year is no different.

This year’s Republican primary did provide a wonderful aberration, however, to the usual choices between Tweedledee and Tweedledum. Republicans had an opportunity to nominate a real American constitutionalist, a statesman in the similitude of Thomas Jefferson or James Madison. That man was Texas Congressman, Ron Paul. Unfortunately, the Republican faithful seem to be incapable of discerning the marks of true greatness, not to mention fidelity to constitutional government. It is doubtful that most of them even understand what constitutional government is. And as for Christian conservatives, they can barely see any issues beyond abortion and "gay rights." To try and convince them to support a constitutionalist candidate is like talking to a brick wall. [

Pope says he is 'deeply ashamed' of clergy abuse scandal

By VICTOR L. SIMPSON, Associated Press Writer

Pope Benedict XVI said Tuesday he was "deeply ashamed" of the clergy sexual abuse scandal in the Roman Catholic Church and will work to keep pedophiles out of the priesthood, addressing the toughest issue facing the American church as he began his first papal trip to the United States.

Benedict spoke in English on a special Alitalia flight from Rome to Washington, answering questions submitted by reporters in advance.

"It is a great suffering for the Church in the United States and for the church in general and for me personally that this could happen," Benedict said. "It is difficult for me to understand how it was possible that priests betray in this way their mission ... to these children." [

Alaska Legislature Heads Home, Killing Parental Consent Bill on Abortion

Juneau, AK (LifeNews.com) -- A bill that would have required parental consent before a minor teenager can have an abortion is dead now that Alaska lawmakers have close dup shop. With legislators heading home following the end of the session, the bill is dead even though the Alaska House approved it.

The measure would revise the parental consent bill the legislature approved in 1997 that the Alaska Supreme Court eventually declared unconstitutional on a 3-2 vote.

The House passed House Bill 364 on a 23-15 vote April 5, but the Senate never passed the bill so it could go to the governor.

Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, who is pro-life, told the local ABC news television station she's disappointed the bill never made it to her desk. [

DISSIDENTS ARE A MOTLEY CREW

Here is how Catholic dissidents are responding to the pope’s visit:

· The National Coalition of American Nuns, a pro-abortion group, says the pope is not welcome

· The Women’s Ordination Conference played a game of make-believe by having women dress up like priests to say Mass

· Dignity, a group which once appointed gay rapist Paul Shanley its chaplain, is staging a protest of the pope’s visit

· New Ways Ministry, a pro-sodomy group, held a press conference on gay sex that no one attended

· Catholics for a Free Choice, an anti-Catholic front group, is hawking condoms and wants no one to leave home without one

· SNAP, a gang of professional victims greased by lawyers who have exploited the church, wants the U.N. to investigate the Vatican

· Voice of the Faithful, which is on the verge of bankruptcy, is lecturing the pope about Church finances

· Rainbow Sash, a gay happy group, says it will throw ashes at the pope instead of confetti

Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded as follows:

“These groups are dying out fast. Staffed by senior citizens who are angry that the Church didn’t turn left, they have almost no members under the age of 90 (okay, maybe 85).

“They will be joined by the American Atheists and the Westboro Baptist Church: the former is protesting what it calls the ‘Vatican/Ratzinger agenda’ (sounds great to me) and the latter is protesting what it calls the ‘Great Whore’ (wasn’t that in the news recently?).

“There was a time when such groups were taken seriously. But that time has long past. Instead, most Catholics will agree with our
op-ed page tribute to the pope in today’s New York Times, and not with these unhappy campers. Indeed, they’ll likely be so gay as to break out the confetti.”

Republican Senators have remained steadfast in their support of the war in Iraq and the leadership of General David Petraeus during this difficult period. I have been unwavering in my belief that General Petraeus was right last September when he outlined the “Surge” strategy to end much of the violence occurring in Iraq, and I believe he is right today.

General Petraeus and Ambassador Crocker recently testified before Congress, concluding that Iraq has begun making significant but fragile progress on both security and political fronts.

It’s difficult to deny the success of the Surge strategy, and I find it fascinating to watch Democrats who opposed the strategy last year now acknowledge reduced violence in the region. [

MAHER LIES ABOUT THE POPE

On his April 11 HBO show, “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the comedian went into an extended assault on Pope Benedict XVI and the Catholic Church. For a transcript, click
here.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue responded as follows:

“Maher’s obsession with the Catholic Church continues, only this time there isn’t enough material for him to use as a club, so he literally makes things up. His lies include the following statement: ‘When the—when the current pope was in his previous Vatican job as John Paul’s Dick Cheney—he wrote a letter instructing every Catholic bishop to keep the sex abuse of minors secret until the statute of limitations ran out.’

“A similar lie was floated by an angry ex-Catholic bigot, Rosie O’Donnell. The fact is that before he was named pope, Joseph Cardinal Ratzinger had absolutely nothing to do with policing allegations of sexual abuse until 2002, after the scandal erupted that January. And he certainly never counseled bishops to keep sexual abuse secret—this is a bald face lie. Indeed, a week before Pope John Paul II died, he addressed the scandal by saying, ‘How much filth there is in the church, even among those who, in the priesthood, should belong entirely’ to God.

“Maher also lied when he said the pope ‘used to be a Nazi.’ Like all young men in Germany at the time, he was conscripted into a German Youth organization (from which he fled as soon as he could). Every responsible Jewish leader has acknowledged this reality and has never sought to brand the pope a Nazi. That job falls to Maher.

“In 2005, after complaining about another bigoted outburst, I was told by Richard Plepler of HBO that ‘it’s a free country, and people are free to say silly things—even on HBO.’ Last year, after another assault, I was told by Jeff Cusson (replying for Time Warner’s CEO Richard Parsons), that Maher’s anti-Catholic remarks were a matter of ‘creative freedom.’ Well, folks, no one has the freedom to libel someone.”

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- The two pro-abortion Democratic candidates sparred at a forum on faith issues at Messiah College in the battleground state of Pennsylvania. During the discussion, Barack Obama admitted he didn't understand the biological fact that human life begins at conception and Hillary Clinton restated her pro-abortion views.

Obama largely avoided a question about when human life begins but appeared to be unfamiliar with the notion of the union of sperm and egg at conception conferring the life of a new, unique human being.

"This is something that I have not, I think, come to a firm resolution on," Obama said in the forum. "I think it's very hard to know what that means, when life begins. Is it when a cell separates? Is it when the soul stirs?" [
