Catholic League News Release

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on Rev. Michael Pfleger’s remarks at Sen. Barack Obama’s church that led the Catholic priest to apologize and the Democratic hopeful to renounce them:

“Most commentators are already focusing on the inappropriateness of the race-baiting comments by Father Pfleger. More serious is the venue in which he delivered his diatribe and his long-standing ties to Sen. Obama.

“Father Pfleger’s tirade would be inexcusable anywhere, but it is even more offensive when it happens in a church. It does not matter that it was not his own, nor does it matter that it happened in a church that has a record of allowing demagogues to exploit it. When churches become forums for political rallies, both religion and the First Amendment are corrupted.

“Obama and Pfleger are no strangers. Indeed, when Obama was in the state senate in Illinois, he conveniently arranged for Father Pfleger’s St. Sabina’s Church to receive state monies for its social programs. Of course, the guardians of church and state separation said nothing then and they are saying nothing now. That’s because they’re all in the tank for Obama. Just as important, why is it that of all the wonderful Catholic priests in the Chicago Archdiocese, Obama long ago chose Pfleger to hang with? Truth be known, Pfleger has a very troubling history: he has welcomed the anti-Semite Louis Farrakhan to preach in his church; he has hired prostitutes to worship there; he has been arrested for defacing billboards; and he once urged the crowd at an anti-gun rally to hunt down a gun store owner ‘like a rat’ and ‘snuff’ him.

“Senator Obama says he wants to bring people together. Then why does he choose as his clerical friends people like Rev. Jeremiah Wright and Father Pfleger? They are two peas in a pod, both equally divisive, separated only by the color of their skin.”

California Catholic Nurses Don't Want Pro-Abortion Union Representing Them

by Steven Ertelt Editor
May 29, 2008

Fresno, CA ( -- Nurses at a Catholic hospital in Fresno have voted against participating in the California Nurses Association because the union takes a pro-abortion position. The close vote came after a heavy lobbying campaign by both pro-life advocates and leaders of the state labor organization.

This is the second time nurses at St. Agnes Medical Center have voted against allowing CNA to represent them after a first vote failed in 1998. [

Catholic League News Release

On May 9, Kansas City Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann publicly asked Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius to refrain from going to Communion. Sebelius not only supports abortion-on-demand, and works closely with Planned Parenthood, she has received funding from Dr. George Tiller of Wichita; he is nationally known for performing late-term abortions.

Over the past few weeks, Archbishop Naumann has been roundly criticized for his decision. Defending him is Catholic League president Bill Donohue:

“A small group called Catholic Democrats has blasted Archbishop Naumann for using ‘Holy Communion as a political weapon to take her [Sebelius] down.’ The
National Catholic Reporter, which runs ads by anti-Catholic and pro-abortion groups, labeled Naumann ‘rigid’ for using ‘political tactics.’ Tim Rutten of the Los Angeles Times condemned him for setting in motion ‘about as nasty and as utterly avoidable a church-state confrontation as you’re likely to see.’ Kansas City Community News opinion page editor Bob Sigman agreed, saying Naumann’s decision ‘has serious consequences for those who believe in the firm line between church and state.’ And Barbara Shelly, who sits on the editorial board of the Kansas City Star, takes the same line, branding his request ‘harsh.’

“All of them are hypocrites. Democratic candidates for public office have been receiving endorsements, and in some cases contributions, in African American churches for decades, yet none of them see a violation of church and state. The reason they are upset with Archbishop Naumann is because Sebelius is on Sen. Barack Obama’s shortlist as a vice presidential running mate. They would make an excellent pair: she supports partial-birth abortions and he supports selective infanticide.

“Archbishop Naumann said it best when he met with Sebelius: ‘I challenged the governor to produce a single instance in her legislative or executive career [which spans 30 years] where she has supported any effort to limit abortions.’ She could not. Which explains why her fans love her.”

Congressman switches mind on ANWR

Chad Groening - OneNewsNow - 5/27/2008 10:00:00 AM

Roscoe Bartlett says he's co-sponsoring new legislation that will allow for oil and natural gas production in a small section of the Coastal Plain in the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR).

Congressman Bartlett (R-Maryland) says the bill is called "The American Energy Independence and Price Reduction Act" (H.R. 6107), which he has co-sponsored with Congressman Don Young (R-Alaska), ranking member of the House Natural Resources Committee.

Bartlett says he has resisted drilling in ANWR in the past because he believes those oil reserves are like money in the bank that is yielding huge interest rates. But he says this new provision dedicates the entire federal share of revenues from ANWR to increase the federal investments in the research, development, and production of alternative sources of energy. Wisconsin falls from ranks of top 10 highest-taxed states for first time since 1980

For the first time in nearly a generation, Wisconsin has fallen out of the ranks of the top 10 highest-taxed states in the nation, two independent researchers have found.

Measured as a share of the money residents earn, Wisconsin's state and local taxes dropped to eleventh in the nation in 2006 — the latest year for which data are available — down from eighth in 2005 and sixth in 2004. The last time Wisconsin ranked out of the top 10 was in 1980.

Didn't notice? That might be because Wisconsin's taxes actually rose slightly in the fiscal year ended in June 2006 but those of other states rose more quickly. That improved the state's ranking even as taxes stayed fairly steady, the two analyses of recently released U.S. Census Bureau data found. [read more]

Sarah Steelman: Guts

Sarah Steelman: Values

As State Treasurer, Sarah Steelman led the fight to throw a contractor using illegal immigrant labor off of a state supported project, and did not rest until those jobs were filled by Missourians. As Governor, Sarah will continue her fight to protect Missouri’s citizens and jobs with a commonsense plan to crack down on illegal immigration: [read more]

Taxes and Government Spending

As a state Senator and state Treasurer, Sarah Steelman has been a proven and strong fiscal watchdog for Missouri taxpayers. She opposed hundreds of millions of taxpayer dollars for a new baseball stadium in St. Louis; fought large pension increases for state legislators; significantly reduced the cost of operating the State Treasurer’s office; prohibited state support of investments held by public officials; voted numerous times to cut taxes and constrain spending; brought over $1 billion back to Missouri, creating thousands of jobs; and stopped the investment of Missouri dollars in companies that support terrorist regimes. Enact Pharmacists Rights of Conscience legislation. We don’t require doctors to perform abortions, and we should not require pharmacists to fill prescriptions for drugs that cause an abortion. A pharmacist in Missouri was fired for refusing to violate her conscience, necessitating this legislation.

Pro-Life Leaders Say John McCain Shouldn't Pick Charlie Crist for VP

by Steven Ertelt Editor
May 27, 2008

Washington, DC ( -- Leading pro-life advocates say one of the top considerations for John McCain for a vice-presidential running mate should be left off of his short list. They're concerned Florida Gov. Charlie Crist isn't sufficiently pro-life and would not motivate the base of the Republican Party in the way McCain needs to win.

Crist, the governor of the presidential battleground state with the most electoral votes, would be a natural pick for a GOP candidate on that basis alone. [

Bob Barr Nomination Speech

Russian Threat Takes Interesting Twist

Shocking headline out of Russia. Are we seeing the re-emergence of the Soviet Union?

Putin named PM of Belarus-Russia alliance
Move coordinated between presidents of Russia, Belarus

Same Threats, Different Time

The Gipper At His Best

I know I have posted this video before, but I find it amazing that Ronald Reagan faced the same challenges that we face today. Matter of fact, this speech could have been given in the last week it is so pertinent. The only difference is there was leadership, in the form of Ronald Reagan, back then and we are currently without a leader.

I do believe we have the new leadership coming up in Gov. Sarah Palin and Gov. Bobby Jindal. The question is, are we going to get behind conservative ideals or are we going to settle for the scraps thrown to us by the current leadership? Real problems deserve real solutions and anything less only mortgages our childrens' futures.

Obama collects another $500,000, slams Limbaugh

More than 800 donors packed into a Westin Diplomat Hotel ballroom Thursday night to pad Barack Obama’s war chest by another $500,000, according to this pool report of the evening.

In a speech to the crowd, Obama sharpened his rhetoric against some of the most vocal voices against immigrant workers and migrant worker programs.

“A certain segment has basically been feeding a kind of xenophobia. There’s a reason why hate crimes against Hispanic people doubled last year,” Obama said. “If you have people like Lou Dobbs and Rush Limbaugh ginning things up, it’s not surprising that would happen.”

No. Va. county sees signs of change amid crackdown

Business at Pedro Vargas' store, Club Video Mexico, has slid so steeply that only eight people walked through the door one day last month. One thing he has been selling, however, are one-way bus tickets from northern Virginia to Texas and Mexico. Soon he'll be getting his own ticket out of town--seeking a friendlier and more lucrative place to do business.

The Maritime Sentry Endorses Chuck Baldwin

I would like to start out by saying that we support all conservatives and will continue to support and post articles on Bob Barr. After a lot of ups and downs and new choices during this campaign year the count down has begun. Due to a RINO Republican leadership bent on self destructing the Party and uneducated and lazy voters following like sheep we had John McCain shoved down our throats; a bitter pill I could not and would not take.

I am finished following along and blindly pledging my allegiance to what ever liberal or socialist candidate the Party pushes. Yes, the Republican Party has become no better than that of the communistic Democrat Party. I had decided to vote third party quite some time back; I just needed to find a candidate that shared my views and beliefs. This is what your vote is supposed to be about. If your party does not provide a viable candidate with your beliefs your duty is to put forth the effort to find one that does.

After researching his stands I have found that candidate for me. We here at the Maritime Sentry have discussed the choices and taken the time and put forth the effort and have agreed that the candidate that shares our values and beliefs is Chuck Baldwin of the Constitution Party. I am confident that those of you who are true Conservatives and Federalists will agree once you have taken the time to read his stands. On every issue crucial to the sovereignty of our Republic and the preservation of our Constitution as it was intended he is right on.

I invite you to learn his stands and chose for yourself. Even if you still chose to support another conservative candidate it will be time well spent. Educating your self is the only way we will win back our founding principles and bring our land back to its origins. The only way to find the path of righteousness is to shed your old ways and start back at the beginning, the cornerstone of your foundation. We must go back to the values that drove the colonists to America in the first place, freedom and religion.

We have become a nanny and policed state with no rights, privacy or freedoms other than those allowed by our government. Those are the things that begin revolutions. Now is the time to begin a new revolution leading us away from the business as usual Republicans and to new parties that will defend what America was meant to be. When elected President Chuck Baldwin will immediately begin the revolution back to the principles our glorious land was founded on and here is how:

Border Security&Illegal Immigration
America’s illegal immigration nightmare ends the day I become President!

Sanctity of Life
I will demand that Congress enact Dr. Ron Paul’s Sanctity of Life Act which would set forth that every unborn child is a ‘person’ under the Constitution, entitled to equal protection of the law and therefore, no unborn child could be killed without due process of law.

A Strong National Defense
We will have a national defense that is second to none, with armed forces that serve only under the American flag, and whose mission will be to defend these United States of America!

American Independence
The globalists are after our sovereignty, our freedom and our national independence. I will stand up for the economic security and independence of our people and the sovereignty of our American republic.

Restoring Liberty
Great are the dangers of giving unlimited, unconstitutional power to a government that does not respect the checks and balances intended by our Constitution and Bill of Rights!

The 2nd Amendment
The Second Amendment Protects Our Liberty! To help keep your family safe and your country free, go buy a gun.

Military Adventures&Empire Building
We will stop this international meddling and empire building. When Chuck Baldwin is sworn in as President of these United States the ‘New World Order’ comes crashing down!

United Nations
As President, I will terminate United States membership in the United Nations.

Being a great and tolerant republic does not mean that we must give up who we are to accommodate what immigrants are. It means that we are so great and unique in who we are that immigrants desire to be a part of it. Those who do not share what we are and demand that we change are only here to destroy us so they may plunder the spoils. That is an invasion, that is not immigration.

We were a glorious republic founded upon God; today we, as a republic, are neither glorious or Godly. Everything that made our nation unique in the world is under attack and the only things that have held us together as a Republic are being undermined and every time we vote for the "lesser of two evils" we destroy more of what unites us. Chuck Baldwin will truly unite our Republic with its freedom and sovereignty and restore our power in the world. During a Chuck Baldwin administration we will regain liberties that have been long lost.

Our leadership has slowly eroded and dissolved your rights such as parental rights, states rights, property rights, freedom of religion, and privacy rights. The government regularly violates the limits placed upon it by the Constitution as a check and balance to assure a limited government. Chuck Baldwin understands that you have been stripped of your Constitution; do you?

Chuck Baldwin on Military Issues:

Wishing you and yours a blessed Memorial Day weekend.
