Statement On The Economic Rescue Package

ARLINGTON, VA U.S. Senator John McCain today delivered the following statement on the passage of the economic rescue package from Flagstaff, AZ:

"I commend the House of Representatives for coming together to pass the economic rescue bill today. I'm glad I suspended my campaign to go back to Washington to help bring the House Republicans to the table. I believe that the taxpayer protections that have been added have improved the bill.

"This rescue bill is not perfect, and it is an outrage that it's even necessary. But we must stop the damage to our economy done by corrupt and incompetent practices on Wall Street and in Washington.

"The action Congress took today is a tourniquet, not a permanent solution. Our economy is still hurting and further action is needed, and it should not take a crisis to get this Congress to act.

"Washington is still on the wrong track, and we face a stark choice in this election. We can go backwards with job-killing tax hikes, the same old broken partisanship, and out of control spending as Senator Obama would have us do or we can bring real reform to Washington.

"My focus is to reform Washington and put government back on the side of working families with tax relief, modern job training, energy independence, more affordable health care, and policies that get spending under control.

"That's how we're going to get America moving again, and that's exactly what I'm going to do. Thank you and again, I commend the House Republicans for acting in the best interest of our nation."

Statement By John McCain On Today's Jobs Report

ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain today issued the following statement on the jobs report:

"Today's report of another 159,000 lost jobs confirms what America's working men and women have understood for months: our nation's economy is on the wrong track. It is imperative that Congress act to address the financial crisis while protecting taxpayers and being good stewards of their dollars. But we must do more.

"America's middle class needs help from a government that is truly standing on their side and not in their way. I am committed to getting to the roots of this crisis -- reforming Washington and cleaning up the mess created by the greed and crony capitalism of government-backed mortgage giants -- Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. I will reverse out-of-control spending, end the wasteful and corrupting practice of earmarks, and get the government budget back to balance. I will reform health care to control costs and better serve American families, open markets around the globe for our products, cut taxes, and expand domestic production of energy to eliminate the ability of international oil markets to hold our economy hostage. I will create jobs and get the economy on the right track.

"Unlike Senator Obama, I do not believe we will create one single American job by increasing taxes, going on a massive spending binge, and closing off markets. Our nation cannot afford Senator Obama's higher taxes."

Washington, D.C. (2 October 2008) – American Life League Thursday called on Archbishop Donald W. Wuerl to enforce Canon 915 at the annual Red Mass at St. Matthew the Apostle Cathedral on Oct. 5.

The Catholic Code of Canon Law requires that all those who persist in "manifestly grave sin" are not to be permitted to receive the Holy Eucharist.

"We implore Archbishop Wuerl to exercise his duty to protect the Holy Eucharist from the sacrilege of pro-abortion politicians receiving the Body and Blood of Our Lord Jesus Christ," said Judie Brown, president of American Life League.

The Red Mass has been notoriously attended by politicians who actively support abortion and contraception – a position that is unequivocally opposed by the Catholic Church

"The Blessed Sacrament has been desecrated in years past at this Mass by politicians with blood on their hands," Brown said. "We hope and pray that this year, Archbishop Wuerl has the courage to be a real shepherd and leader of his flock by protecting our most sacred Sacrament."

The Red Mass is a special Mass celebrated for those involved in the government and legal system. Catholics believe these officials' power comes from God – therefore they have a sacred duty to govern with justice and protect the most innocent and defenseless among us – the preborn.

"The Red Mass should be the perfect opportunity for Archbishop Wuerl to send a message to pro-abortion politicians everywhere – it is not possible to be Catholic and support abortion."

American Life League was cofounded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to natural death. Catholic League News Release

On November 26, Thanksgiving eve, Rosie O’Donnell will host a special on NBC, “Rosie’s Variety Show.” Reportedly, it has a strong chance of becoming a weekly show on Sunday nights at 8:00 p.m. next year.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue is giving NBC a heads-up:

“NBC wouldn’t dare hire one of its icons, Michael Richards, to do a special, never mind give him serious consideration for a weekly show on Sunday nights. That’s because the “Seinfeld” actor made bigoted remarks one night in 2006 while performing. By contrast, O’Donnell has made a slew of the most viciously bigoted remarks, year after year. But she’s okay.

“Moreover, Richards made his comments in a private comedy club; O’Donnell made her numerous comments on national television. Oh, yes, I forgot to mention that African Americans were the target of Richards’ bigoted statements; O’Donnell’s repertoire is mostly limited to attacking Catholics and the Catholic Church. She once ripped Asians, but then quickly issued an apology. She has never apologized to Catholics for her non-stop bigotry.

“If Michael Richards were to be given the opportunity that O’Donnell is being given, the NAACP, Al Sharpton and others would be scheduling a protest. And by comparison, Richards is positively angelic next to O’Donnell.

“Sponsors had better beware. If O’Donnell resorts to her Catholic-bashing antics, one of them will pay. Bet on it. Ironically, it was on Thanksgiving eve of 2006 that NBC aired Madonna’s ‘Confessions Tour.’ Deleted from the show was the ‘Mock Crucifixion’ scene we objected to. That’s because NBC got the message about the boycott we planned with the Media Research Center (we said we would boycott one sponsor, to be identified after the show). NBC would be wise not to pick this show up in 2009.”

Gov. Palin Wins Debate Hands Down

I could not have been more impressed with Gov. Palin tonight. She nailed energy, Iraq, Iran, education, and an issue very important to me Israel. She made the strongest case I have seen yet from her on our relationship with Israel and keeping nuclear weapons out of Iranian hands. She had a great sense of humor, including this clip.

All of the elitist talking heads definitely have egg on their faces tonight. The American people saw one of their own stand up to a DC icon tonight and deliver practical solutions for moving this country forward. I have never seen anything like it. We clearly have a choice on November 4. Now it is up to all of us to make sure that Sen. McCain and Gov. Palin are elected President and Vice President so that true reform can come to Washington DC.

McCain Press Release

Statement From Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker

ARLINGTON, VA -- McCain-Palin 2008 Communications Director Jill Hazelbaker issued the following statement on tonight's Vice Presidential Debate:

"Tonight, Governor Palin proved beyond any doubt that she is ready to lead as Vice President of the United States. She won this debate, putting Joe Biden on defense on energy, foreign policy, taxes and the definition of change. Governor Palin laid bare Barack Obama's record of voting to raise taxes, opposing the surge in Iraq, and proposing to meet unconditionally with the leaders of state sponsors of terror. The differences between the Obama-Biden ticket and the McCain-Palin ticket could not have been clearer. The American people saw stark contrasts in style and worldview. They saw Joe Biden, a Washington insider and a 36-year Senator, and Governor Palin, a Washington outsider and a maverick reformer. Governor Palin was direct, forceful and a breath of fresh air."

VP Debate Tonight

Well, only a couple of hours before the debate, which starts at 8:00 PM Central. I have no doubt that Gov. Palin will make us all proud, the only question that I have is who will be more biased towards her? The MSM or the elitists in our own Party who can't stand everyday Americans. I am personally tired of the arrogance exhibited by George Will, Fred Barnes, and their kind. They seem to delight in attacking conservatives and everyday Americans, while proclaiming RINO's to be authentic conservatives, but enough about them; they no longer matter.

It will be interesting to see how the debate is moderated by Gwen Ifill and the approach Biden will take tonight. I think more than likely he will try to avoid Gov. Palin and attack Bush and McCain. However, that line of attack runs the risk of him appearing to patronize Gov. Palin.

For Gov. Palin's part I hope, and expect, that she will just be herself tonight. All the problems over the last couple of weeks have been because the people McCain surrounded her with tried to change her into a female version of McCain instead of allowing her to fulfill her role and make up for McCain's deficiencies. What makes Gov. Palin such an appealing politician is that she is an everyday parent who decided she could make a difference and did something about it. All the American people need to see tonight, for her to win, is the barracuda who reshaped the political landscape of Alaska.

Statement By John McCain On The U.S.-India Civil-Nuclear Agreement

ARLINGTON, VA -- Today, U.S. Senator John McCain issued the following statement on the U.S.-India Civil-Nuclear Agreement:

"Yesterday, the U.S. Congress passed legislation clearing the way for the U.S.-India Civil-Nuclear Agreement to come into force. Governor Palin and I congratulate the Congress on moving this important legislation forward. India has been a responsible democracy and this agreement allows it to become further integrated into the global effort to control proliferation of dangerous technologies. The agreement will also allow the U.S. and India to cooperate in taking maximum advantage of new technologies that can provide energy without relying on greenhouse gas-emitting fossil fuels.

"Our friendship with India is rooted in the norms and values we hold in common with the great democracies of Asia. Indian Prime Minister Singh has called liberal democracy 'the natural order of social and political organization in today's world.' When Governor Palin met with Prime Minister Singh in New York last week, they once again reaffirmed the shared values that are the bedrock for the prosperity and stability we all desire. They also stressed their commitment to moving forward on the civil nuclear accord as part of a deepening of our relations. During the Senate's previous consideration of this important legislation, Senator Obama supported efforts that would have killed this accord. His own running mate, Senator Joe Biden, described one of the provisions Senator Obama voted for as a 'deal breaker.' We took a different approach: I wanted to make the deal, not break it, and I have supported the US-India Civil Nuclear Accord from the beginning. Accordingly, yesterday's Congressional action is welcome."

The other day I did a post asking for prayer for Gov. Palin as she heads into this debate. Well, now I found out there is an organized effort to pray for and support the Governor leading up to the debate. So if you are interested and in the area, get involved. Otherwise, Let's all do our part and keep the Governor in prayer.

Statement By Michael Durant On Joe Biden's Comments About Being "Shot At" In Iraq

ARLINGTON, VA -- Today, Chief Warrant Officer 4 Michael J. Durant (Ret.) issued the following statement on Joe Biden's apparently false accounts of near-misses on the battlefields of Afghanistan and Iraq:

"Senator Biden claimed at a debate last year that he'd been 'shot at' while visiting Iraq. And he has claimed repeatedly, most recently last week, that his helicopter was 'forced down' in Afghanistan -- leaving his audience with the impression that it was fire from the Taliban which had grounded the aircraft. Neither of these stories appears to be true, and Senator Biden has never accounted for the discrepancies.

"I've been on a helicopter that was 'forced down' by enemy fire, and I've been 'shot at.' Neither is easily confused with being caught in a snow storm or awakened by a loud bang in the night. Senator Biden has a responsibility to come clean on what actually happened, and explain why he would ever say such things to the American people. And with the Vice Presidential Debate coming up on Thursday, it is incumbent on the news media to ask Senator Biden the tough questions -- as they have so far failed to do -- and examine his responses closely for inconsistencies of the kind we've witnessed in recent months.

"The American people expect and deserve leaders who tell the truth about their record and their experiences, and a news media that holds all candidates -- no matter their party -- to the same standard." [

Gov. Palin To Debate Thursday

As you no doubt know, Gov. Palin will debate Thursday night. Now we find out that the moderator of the debate is as biased as they come. Of course, we already know that Gov. Palin will be criticized by the MSM no matter how well she does. In fact, the better she does, the worse she will be criticized. The press has even went so far as to dissect Gov. Palin's accent. Certainly that is more important than Barack Obama's radical associations and socialist agenda.

I would like to ask everyone to keep the Governor in prayer over the next day and a half, especially. I cannot imagine the stress her and her family are under simply because they have the nerve to be conservative with morals in this so-called modern world we live in.

The future of our republic literally hangs in the balance. This election will decide who controls the Supreme Court for years to come. It will also decide if we head down the path of socialism and moral decay, or if we stop the erosion of our values and start the return to the republic we were meant to be.

ICYMI: McCain-Palin Campaign Conference Call On The Economic Recovery Plan

"And one last thought. I don't know of an economic theory in all my years of debating, and discussing, and learning, and reading about economics. I don't know of an economic theory on the face of this earth that suggests that raising tax rates on business, raising tax rates on small business, raising tax rates on investment capital, would be a good idea at a time of severe financial strain. The Obama plan to raise capital gain taxes, dividend taxes, corporate taxes, personal taxes, death taxes -- there is just no rationale or reason for that type of approach." -- Sec. Jack Kemp

ARLINGTON, VA -- Today, the McCain-Palin campaign held a press conference call with Sec. Jack Kemp, former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development, and Doug Holtz-Eakin, McCain-Palin senior policy adviser, on the economic recovery plan:

Doug Holtz-Eakin: "I did want to give you a quick update as I hope everyone knows Senator McCain is very disappointed by the outcome of yesterday's House vote. He had worked very hard to take a process which had hit a dead end on Thursday night and revised to the point where there were healthy productive bipartisan bicameral negotiations leading to the vote in the House of Representatives on Monday. A tremendous trajectory and sadly it did not reach the point where the bill passed. We made a clear call upon all parties to return from this short break, and as quickly as possible, get the necessary relief to the financial markets in particular, but more broadly to the U.S. economy where businesses are starting to run into dire restrictions in their ability to maintain normal operations because there's an absence of credit in the economy and that's a top priority. The Senator hopes to see it done and done quickly.

"In the interim today, he outlined some steps that the administration could take to ease the difficulties facing the economy. One would be to make sure that in any new legislation there would be an increase in the insurance on the deposits in banks. We are starting to see an erosion in confidence by individuals in the solvency of their institutions. They are shifting funds around. That confidence needs to be restored and there's nothing but an economic down flood to a loss of confidence. Other things that can happen quickly are to take advantage of existing authority that was passed in the summer housing legislation. That legislation increased the debt limit of the United States by nearly a trillion dollars. That would permit the Treasury to borrow that money. At the same time, it gave the government the ability to purchase mortgage backed securities and other housing related instruments.

"They could thus go directly into the market and take on the underlying root cause of the problem, at least in a temporary fashion while waiting for Congress to fashion a broader stabilization effort. It's also true that the Treasury has done a very clever and ingenious job of using existing funds in what's known as the Exchange Stabilization Fund. They continue these efforts to back stuff for these institutions while the Congress finishes the legislative effort. All of this is focused on making sure that in the near term our economy continues to get as well as possible and thus not suffer further damage in the credit crunch.

"But over the long term, it is imperative that we create jobs and return to the middle class the hope of a job that is the foundation of prosperity going forward. And I just want to post my remarks going forward that as Senator Obama continues to waffle, shift and recharacterize his economic positions particularly on taxes, the reality is that Senator Obama has promised to raise taxes and in his ideological drive to raise taxes he is catching in the crossfire the same small business that have created 300,000 jobs even in this struggling economy.

"The American people need to know that we will not have a lasting solution to this problem if we continue to raise taxes. And the reality is that he has promised a lot of spending. There is now another estimate that says nearly a trillion, you can go to the National Taxpayers Union, an independent authority, and their estimate is that he's promised three trillion dollars in new spending and that's only the 85 proposals to date. There are a hundred more they couldn't even put a price tag on. So in a world where you're going to spend more money than the bailout is going to cost, it is unimaginable that the American people will receive the tax relief that he's promising on the campaign trail today. It is at odds with his spending proposals. It is at odds with his history. I'll just stop there and turn it over to Secretary Kemp."

Sec. Jack Kemp: "First of all let me just say as former Secretary of Housing and Urban Development under George Bush 41, and I was on the Oversight Committee of the Resolution Trust Corporation that helped to resolve the Savings and Loans crisis of the late 80s and early 90s, and I've been calling and suggesting that a 21st century RTC-like operation would be necessary for as what Doug Holtz-Eakin mentioned, these distressed mortgage backed securities. I strongly support John's efforts to call Congress back into session as quickly as possible and have the government take an immediate action to help alleviate this financial crisis. A crisis in the Chinese dictionary is two characters: one danger, and the other opportunity. I think there's an opportunity here to not only rescue financial institutions in the United States of America, and here and around the world, but also to revive our credit markets which, as Doug pointed out, is abs olutely essential for businesses and people and Main Street to get the type of loans that are so necessary to continue economic activity in this country. So urgency is what John is calling for and I strongly support that.

"Second, he's asking the Congress to pass legislation that would allow up to a trillion dollars in mortgages. As so many people have pointed out and I think it's a root -- this equals to the root cause of the problem and one of the mistakes my conservative friends are making is thinking that somehow this is socializing our credit markets. It's not at all. As you buy these distressed properties, a, you have the value of the property. Number two, it is getting that rate of return, albeit small, and then eventually when the market turns around and it is sold, that money can be used to pay off debt and pay off the national debt. So this is a very legitimate effort by Congress and by the government of the United States to not only rescue and revive our credit markets, but to actually reduce the cost of this purchase of mortgage backed securities that would never end up costing anywhere near 700 billion or a trillion.

"I also agree with John's efforts to increase the deposit insurance cap -- $100,000 was set by the FDIC a long time ago, and it should be more than doubled as John has called for, so that we can use those, as well as the escape stabilization fund at the Treasury to provide a backstop, not only for personal accounts, but also for banks that are troubled. So I think John is providing the absolute leadership that we need to call Congress back into session and get immediate halt to this crisis.

The Obama plan to raise capital gain taxes, dividend taxes, corporate taxes, personal taxes, death taxes -- there is just no rationale or reason for that type of approach. So John's approach to bring down the corporate income tax rate, to remove the alternative minimum tax, to keep capital gain tax rate and dividend taxes low, are absolute essential ingredients to getting that growth package into this period of economic instability, because we not only need to rescue and revive the credit markets and our financial institutions, we need a pro-growth stimulus to make sure that we don't go into the debts of the deep recession, the likes of which would be caused by raising tax rates on investment capital at exactly the wrong time. So that's the end of my remarks and I'll open it up to Tucker or Doug for any questions and I'll be available as well."

ARLINGTON, VA -- Today, Doug Holtz-Eakin, McCain-Palin 2008 Senior Policy Adviser, issued the following statement on the SEC's plan to relax mark-to-market accounting requirements:

"John McCain is pleased to see that the SEC has finally decided to permit alternative accounting methods to mark-to-market accounting for securities where no active market exists. There is serious concern that these accounting rules are worsening the credit crunch, making it difficult for small businesses to stay afloat and squeezing family budgets. In March, John McCain called for a meeting of accounting professionals to discuss whether mark-to-market accounting was magnifying problems in the financial markets." [

Have You Gotten Through To Your Representatives?

Apparently, due to the overwhelming number of emails coming into Capitol Hill, there will now be a limit on how many will be accepted during peak hours. First of all this shows how angry people are with their representatives if they are receiving this many emails. So my suggestion is, get a clue and start doing the will of the people you represent; you are not their to get rich and get your friends rich. The second thought that occurs to me is, they had this same problem during the amnesty debate so they should have had it fixed by now. It seems very convenient that they are unable to come up with a system for their constituents to contact them by phone or email whenever they wish.

I would also like to quickly point out that the same talking points and strategy being used for this bailout were used during the amnesty debate; like any bill is better than nothing, or we have to do something now, or the American people don't understand what this really involves. In reality, the ones who don't understand are our representatives. We don't want socialism and we don't want the government cramming junk bills down our throats.

Remarks by John McCain to the National Guard Association

ARLINGTON, VA -- U.S. Senator John McCain will deliver the following remarks as prepared for delivery to the National Guard Association in Baltimore, MD, today at 3:00 p.m. ET:

Thank you, Major General Marty Umbarger, for that kind introduction. Colonel Al Faber, Major General Poythress, Brigadier Generals Arflack, Taylor, and Ross -- I thank you gentlemen as well. And let me add a warm hello to my good friend Major General Stan Spears of South Carolina, and to Brigadier General Steve Koper, and Lieutenant General John Conaway. It's an honor to join with all of you again for this 130th General Conference. And I bring greetings from the Governor of the Great State of Alaska, Sarah Palin.

Every day in this country and across the world, the men and women of the National Guard are giving brave and faithful service. Everyone who wears the uniform of the United States has accepted the calling of service to a cause greater than self. This hard calling is what defines the citizen soldiers of the National Guard, and America is in your debt.

As we meet, Guard members are serving in Iraq and Afghanistan, while still others have just returned from a training mission in the nation of Georgia. Other guardsmen are still working to bring order and safety to the victims of Hurricane Ike along the Texas coast, just as they did after Katrina.

Our nation faces many challenges. We have all watched the crisis on Wall Street this past week, and I would like to address that for just a moment. Last Friday, I proposed a plan for comprehensive reform of the broken institutions that allowed this crisis to become a grave threat to our economy. At the center of the plan is the principle that we must keep people in their homes and safe guard the life savings of all Americans by protecting our financial system and capital markets. Senator Obama has declined to put forth a plan of his own. At a time of crisis, when leadership is needed, Senator Obama has not provided it.

We saw this same lack of leadership on Iraq. Because of the sacrifices and perseverance of all the troops -- active-duty, Guard, and Reserve -- victory in Iraq is finally in sight. My opponent, Senator Obama, likes to say that the surge in Iraq was more successful that anyone could have predicted at the time. He said that the surge succeeded, "beyond our wildest dreams." That's his way of saying that it took him by surprise.

And to this day Senator Obama still cannot bring himself to admit his own failure in judgment. For a guy who talks so much about hope, he didn't hold out much hope for victory in Iraq. Instead, he commits the greater error of insisting that even in hindsight, he would oppose the surge. Even in retrospect, he would choose the path of retreat and failure for America over the path of success and victory. Behind all of these claims and positions by Senator Obama lies the ambition to be president. What's missing is the judgment to be commander in chief. In short, both candidates in this election pledge to end this war and bring our troops home. The great difference is that I intend to win it first.

The achievement of our troops in Iraq is even greater because they had to press on even as some politicians back home were telling America and the world that our cause was too hard, and all was lost, and retreat was our only option. Those politicians panicked when things got tough, which seems to be a pattern with my opponent. Whether it's a reversal in war, or an economic emergency, he reacts as a politician and not as a leader, seeking an advantage for himself instead of a solution for his country. Among the many lessons of Iraq were the words of General David Petraeus. Upon arrival in Iraq, he told his troops to remember that "hard is not hopeless." And that is a lesson that applies to other great challenges that America now faces: Hard is not hopeless.

Unlike Senator Obama, I believed the surge would succeed because I knew the capabilities and culture of the United States military. I was blessed to have been born into a family that made its living at sea in defense of our security and ideals. My grandfather was a naval aviator; my father a submariner. Earning their respect was one of the great ambitions of my life. And so it was nearly pre-ordained that I would find a place in my family's profession, and that occupation would one day take me to war. [

Founding Fathers Quote

How prone all human institutions have been to decay; how subject the best-formed and most wisely organized governments have been to lose their check and totally dissolve; how difficult it has been for mankind, in all ages and countries, to preserve their dearest rights and best privileges, impelled as it were by an irresistible fate of despotism.

John McCain- Sarah Palin Statement on Americans Abroad

John McCain- Sarah Palin Statement on Americans Abroad

US citizens living abroad may be distant, but they are not disengaged. In fact, as unofficial American Ambassadors, they play a vital role in the life of the nation. Not only do Americans abroad vote and pay taxes, they are often the first contact other nationalities have with our country and you experience firsthand the impact that our government's policies have overseas. No matter where Americans may find themselves, John McCain cares about their welfare, hopes and fears. As President, John McCain will work hard to improve the United States' image in the world. But image is not everything. Above all, John McCain is committed to protecting the lives and livelihoods of all Americans and defending their personal freedoms. Through reform he will tackle the severe US trade deficit and strengthen the dollar, while providing a more inclusive, peaceful and prosperous future for all Americans.

The Role of Foreign Policy for Americans Abroad
As an American abroad, you know the significance of having a strong and informed foreign policy. The United States will benefit from stronger alliances, and together we will prevail against radical Islamic extremism, stand together in Afghanistan and work together in NATO. A strong European Union, a strong NATO and a true strategic partnership between them is profoundly in our interest. As President, John McCain will renew and revitalize our democratic alliances, while using diplomacy to promote the nation's interests in international affairs. John McCain will work with the more than 100 democratic nations around the world to advance our values and defend our shared interests. At the heart of these alliances, John McCain believes there must be mutual respect and trust. The United States must listen to the views and respect the collective will of our democratic allies. When we believe that international act ion is necessary, whether military, economic or diplomatic, we will try to persuade our friends that we are right. But we, in return, must also be willing to be persuaded by them.

Through revitalized alliances, John McCain will strive to strengthen democracy around the globe. When necessary, the United States will defend its friends against external aggression and bullying. The recent events in Georgia remind us all that the world remains a dangerous place, and John McCain is a leader who is prepared to protect our national security. In winning the war in Iraq, John McCain will bring our troops home with victory and honor, while remaining ever vigilant against threats around the world. Foreign assistance will also be an important element of his foreign policy. Economic development in key countries around the world is a long term investment in American national security, intended to build the political and economic foundations of peace and stability. In doing so, America takes the route of responsible statesmanship. Even as the United States increases its military capabilities, John McCain will increase our civilian capacity so that an undue burden d oes not again fall on our soldiers as it has in Afghanistan and Iraq, where civilian agencies of our government have too often been missing in action. As President, John McCain would be committed to bolstering peaceful development in order to reduce the chances of war breaking out in the first place.

As President, John McCain will respect and uphold the US Constitution and US commitments around the world. John McCain will fight the terrorists and at the same time defend the rights that are the foundations of our society. In a John McCain administration we will not torture or treat inhumanely suspected terrorists that are detained in wartime. We will close the detention facility at Guantanamo and come to a common international understanding on the disposition of dangerous detainees under our control.

Economic Prosperity for Americans Abroad
To provide economic security, John McCain will clean-up the systemic problems of the US financial system. With today's crippling deficit, the United States' room for maneuver in all matters is severely diminished. An increasingly isolationist, anti-free trade America would further weaken our country and the US dollar. The depreciating dollar particularly affects Americans abroad because of the disadvantageous effect of exchange rates on the tax value of a fixed salary or pension. [

Catholic League News Release

Catholic League director of communications Susan A Fani attended a preview of the Bill Maher movie, “Religulous,” in New York City on September 25. In her report to league president Bill Donohue, it was clear that the film is more absurd than hateful. Here is Donohue’s take on the movie as informed by Fani’s observations:

“Maher has been on a crusade smearing Catholicism for many years, sometimes viciously so. It was therefore expected that ‘Religulous’ would offer more of the same. But in fairness, this did not happen. As we already knew, Maher’s movie was not going to single out Catholicism for derision—Protestantism, Judaism, Islam and other religions are afforded cheap shots—but what we did not know is that he wouldn’t succumb to the kind of slanderous assaults on priests, for instance, that he has made in the past. Nor did we know that he would resist making vile comments about core religious beliefs.

“On the other hand, it is pure nonsense to play Catholicism off against science. After all, were it not for the role of the Catholic Church, there would have been no Scientific Revolution and no early breakthroughs in astronomy. Equally dumb is the assertion that the Ten Commandments are flawed because they don’t speak to child abuse, rape and torture. Had Maher gone to more religion classes, he would have learned that the central taboos listed are umbrella strictures that cover a host of subsidiary sins. And why did he bother to take out of context statements from people like John Adams that make the Founding Fathers sound anti-religion? Adams has often been quoted as saying that the Constitution was made ‘only for a moral and religious people.’

“More important, if Jesus is not the Son of God, as Maher contends, then why does he waste time—and make himself look silly in the process—by invoking Jesus’ name to give homosexuality a pass? In the flick, Maher argues that homosexuality couldn’t be so bad if Jesus never mentioned it. And, of course, Maher’s contention that religion kills looks rather feeble given that the 20th century was the most violent in history. Hasn’t he noticed that Hitler, Stalin, Mao and Pol Pot were expressly atheistic and anti-religious? In any event, Catholicism will survive ‘Religulous.’”

Palin Is Our VP - Period

I see several in the established Republican media are now giving the absurd advice that Sen. McCain should drop Gov. Palin. That is the best advise in the world if you want to elect Barack Obama and his socialist agenda. I have to question the loyalty of these so-called Republicans who are attempting to undermine our campaign with this elitist filth.

Gov. Palin has energized the entire nation. There is not a single state that she has not improved Republican chances. I, for the first time in my life, understand what the Democrats mean when they talk about John F. Kennedy and how he energized them. Donations and volunteers are up across the country simply because Gov. Palin is on the ticket and it can all dry up as fast as it came in if Sen. McCain listened to these elitists. Thankfully for the nation, Sen. McCain's is wiser than these talking heads and because of his vision in picking Gov. Palin we Republicans have the opportunity to win this November.
