The RGA Voted Gov. Mark Sanford Chairman...

This is exciting news. The 2010 election is going to be extremely important for conservatives, for so many reasons. Now we will have a solid conservative leading the RGA.

Republican Governors Announce Leadership

The Republican Governors Association announced its new leadership team today as the group prepares to grow the Republican Party through its Governors.

Governor Mark Sanford was voted Chairman of the Republican Governors Association. Governor Haley Barbour became the new Vice-Chairman. Governor Rick Perry is the Finance Chairman. Governor Charlie Crist will chair the Annual Gala and Governor Sonny Perdue will serve as Recruitment Chairman. Governor Linda Lingle, Governor Jim Douglas, and Governor Tim Pawlenty will also serve on the Executive Committee.

“I am honored and excited to become chairman of the Republican Governors Association as we work together to win a majority of Governors by 2010,” said RGA Chairman Governor Mark Sanford. “Republican Governors are natural leaders who will find solutions to our nation’s challenges and bring back the Party.”

The Republican Governors Association will head into 2009 having raised a record amount of money and with a record amount of cash on hand. It was the only Republican campaign committee to have all its incumbents reelected.

“The Republican Governors Association was a bright spot for the Republican Party this year and it was a privilege to serves as chairman,” said Governor Rick Perry. “Our Governors are positioned to lead the party and I am confident that Governor Sanford will build on our success.”

Gun Owners Need Not Apply?

Friday, November 14, 2008

Last week, we reported on the anti-gun legislative agenda proposed by President-elect Barack Obama’s transition team, headed by former Clinton administration operatives John Podesta and Rahm Emanuel. (That document was quickly removed from the official transition website, but you can still see it at

This week, it became clear that the new administration’s anti-gun agenda even infects the process of staffing the administration. A widely disseminated questionnaire for those applying for administration jobs asks:

“(59) Do you or any members of your immediate family own a gun? If so, provide complete ownership and registration information. Has the registration ever lapsed? Please also describe how and by whom it is used and whether it has been the cause of any personal injuries or property damage.” [read more]

Ready For Another Draft Movement?

There is a movement called Draft Sarah Palin For President 2012 I wanted to let everyone know about. Now, I will be honest, I did not sign up. I am going to wait and see what Sarah's official policies are when she decides to run; issues like illegal immigration and states rights. I already know she is a good conservative, I just want to know where she stands on a couple of issues that she hasn't addressed. This is not a criticism at all. I understand that running as a VP you have to espouse the views of the top of the ticket. I would like to see Sarah address some of these hot button issues when it is appropriate.

Unless she has different beliefs than I have been told I plan on supporting her fully if she decides to run. I have really been impressed with her media campaign the past couple of days. She is doing considerably better than the McCain people did. Here is a news report on the new draft movement.

Founding Fathers Quote

Far from being rivals or enemies, religion and law are twin sisters, friends, and mutual assistants. Indeed, these two sciences run into each other. The divine law, as discovered by reason and the moral sense, forms an essential part of both.

James Wilson

On Thursday, November 13, 2008 at 5:00 pm EST, Catholic League President Bill Donohue will appear on CNN Headline News' “Prime News.”

He will discuss the ad campaign by the American Humanist Association to advance militant secularism.

Is Michael Steel Everything He Appears To Be?

Is Michael Steele Pro-Life? Maybe Not.

Is Michael Steele pro-life? I fear the answer might be no.

I've long liked and respected Lt. Gov. Michael Steele and considered him a great candidate to Chair the RNC. I've seen many pro-life bloggers even endorse him but yesterday a commenter named Darcy pointed me to Steele's appearance on Meet The Press on October 29, 2006. The transcript is here.

According to his own statements, Steele is against overturning Roe V. Wade. He is also against a Constitutional Amendment banning abortion. He also rather disingenuously calls abortion an issue that should be handled by the states even though the states can't really restrict abortion in any meaningful way until Roe is overturned.

If Steele really is not staunch pro-life, he may not be the Republican candidate he appears to be. If he is liberal on any part of the abortion and pro-life issue then he should not be considered.

Will Bush Do Right By Ramos And Compean?

Time is Running Out for President to Free Border Agents

Posted by Bobby Eberle
November 11, 2008 at 7:28 am

With a little over two months left in office, President Bush has the opportunity to right an incredible injustice. He has the constitutional power to pardon former Border Patrol Agents Ignacio Ramos and Jose Compean. Unlike President Clinton in his last days in office, who used pardons as political pay-back, President Bush should step forward and grant freedom to these agents who were doing their job protecting America.

For those how haven't followed this case, Agents Ramos and Compean shot an illegal alien as he was fleeing back to the Mexican border. The illegal alien, Osvaldo Aldrete Davila, was in the process of smuggling approximately a million dollars worth of marijuana into the U.S. What happened next has set the stage for President Bush to take action in his closing days as president.

What We All Can Do

Red State has posted a list of things we all can do. I recommend you stop by and read it. The only thing I would add is that all of us who live in open primary states need to contact our state party and tell them we want closed primaries. It should be Republicans picking our candidates, not Democrats and Independents.

War In The GOP & John McCain's Blame Game

War In The GOP & John McCain's Blame Game

November 12, 2008

by William Gheen
President of Americans for Legal Immigration PAC

The top brass in the Republican Party that the public blames the most for perpetual wars, the next Great Depression, and trying to give Amnesty to millions of illegal aliens that they let into the country in the first place are circling the wheel of the GOP ship with their rapiers out!

Blue collar and middle class Republicans are advancing on the once proud captains of the GOP hoping to see Bush, McCain, and their most ardent supporters walk the political plank, in an effort to save the party from decades of fallout. Let's face the truth. Bush, McCain, Senators Graham and Martinez have not only led the GOP to destruction, they have run the great ship called America upon the rocks, with their brand of 'leadership' in the US Senate and the White House.

The GOP lost any real chance of retaining the White House the day John McCain won the primary. Due to election dynamics, a Ted Kennedy loving, Amnesty pushing, Free Trade pushing, Globalist, Democrat in Republican clothing named John McCain won. On election day, the resounding message and historical example became "You can't screw over the conservative base and still win as President!"

The turnout level for the 2008 elections was no where near the created media hype massive turnout forecast by the pro-Obama media. In fact, according to the American University’s Center for the Study of the American Electorate, Democratic turnout was only up a few percent points. The problem for McCain was that less Republicans showed up than in 2004's Presidential race and many of those Republicans either voted for Obama, voted third party, or left his race blank.

McCain was counting on GOP voters to march into the booths at the last minute, hold their noses and elect him out of fear of Obama. While many Republicans reluctantly made that choice, a significant group withheld their support or voted in opposition to McCain.

The greatest example of conservative voters rejection of McCain is seen in his campaign's inability to raise adequate funds for his campaign. The RNC had similar troubles and both McCain and the RNC were massively outspent by Democrats. Looking back in recent history, their inability to raise enough funds began when the RNC fired their fundraising phone bank employees, after donations fell through the floor immediately following Bush, McCain, and Kennedy's push for Comprehensive Immigration Reform Amnesty. The phone bank employees reported massive donor unrest due to the amnesty legislation and were promptly fired! Republican fundraising never recovered after that paradigm shift.

Some of McCain's campaign employees have quickly thrown Sarah Palin under the political bus hoping the angry crowds will tear her apart, instead of McCain and crew! I can tell you as a prior employee of many campaigns, staffers do not engage in this kind of activity, without expressed behind the scenes authorization from their employers (such as Mccain) or they will lose their jobs and probably their careers! Catholic League News Release

In a statement released today, Francis Cardinal George, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, made it clear that the bishops will fight any expansion of abortion rights that may occur under the next administration. Specifically, the bishops are objecting to the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), a bill so sweeping and draconian that it would not only repeal every single state restriction on abortion, it would seriously jeopardize the right of Catholic hospitals and doctors to opt out of performing abortions.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue released the following remarks:

“Cardinal George is right to label FOCA ‘an evil law that would further divide the country.’ At stake are two issues: a) the rights of the unborn and, b) religious liberty.

“First, those who admit that abortion should be rare unwittingly acknowledge that there is a reason to limit its frequency: as Cardinal George said, ‘abortion kills.’ By contrast, no one maintains that root canals should be rare, and that is because this medical procedure—unlike abortion—does not result in the total denial of someone else’s rights.

“Second, religious liberty is enshrined in the First Amendment and cannot be trespassed upon lightly, and certainly not by abortion zealots. Those who support FOCA must realize that if Catholic hospitals are ever required to perform abortions, the bishops will close every one of them; no one would be hurt more than the poor.

“Cardinal George explicitly rejected the ‘common good’ mantra of the Catholic Left that justifies legal abortion while pursuing ameliorative social policies that
may reduce abortions. At stake, he said, is the ‘legal protection of the unborn,’ something which is rejected by Catholics United, Catholics in Alliance for the Common Good and Catholic Democrats. We hope they amend their ways and fall in line with Catholic thought on this grave matter. If they do not, they will become indistinguishable from Catholics for Choice, a fully discredited organization.”

Catholic League News Release

Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented today on new developments surrounding the radical gays who stormed a church on Nov. 9 in Lansing, Michigan (see Catholic League
news release 11-11):

“On Nov. 11, I asked Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox to launch an investigation into what happened at Mount Hope Church. We knew yesterday that a group of gay fascists stormed the church during a Sunday service. What we did not know is that this is a nationwide organization that has been planning to terrorize the church for the past month.

“The facts are not in dispute—all one has to do is tap into the website of Bash Back! There one will find that on Oct. 12 and Oct. 23, a memo was sent to members of the group to commemorate the founding of ‘Michigan’s newly formed chapter’ asking ‘Queers and Trannies’ to join in storming the church. The group boasts that in 2008 there has been ‘an explosion in Radical Trans/Queer organizing,’ citing progress that has been made from ‘Maine to the Midwest to The Bay Area.’ Bash Back! was founded to fight ‘State recognition in the form of oppressive institutions such as marriage and militarism’; it says both are ‘steps towards heteronormative assimilation.’ The radical nature of the group has led it to protest pro-gay marriage organizations like the Human Rights Campaign.

“It is important that law enforcement from all quarters address this issue. We will now contact Eaton County Sheriff Mike Raines and Eaton County Prosecutor Jeffrey L. Sauter to work cooperatively with Michigan Attorney General Mike Cox.

“A left-wing website, the
Daily Kos
, labeled news reports on what happened at the church ‘a funny story,’ and conducted a survey on the subject. Only 19 percent thought what Bash Back! did crossed the line.”

Catholic League News Release

The American Humanist Association launched today what it calls its “Godless Holiday Campaign.” Its ad in the
New York Times and Washington Post
reads, “Why believe in god? Just be good for goodness’ sake.” The same ad will appear on Metro buses in Washington, D.C.

Bill Donohue, president of the Catholic League, responded as follows:

“It is a shame that an organization that worships nothing would be forced to crib its ‘Holiday Campaign’ ad from a Christmas song about St. Nick. More important is the reasoning employed by Roy Speckhardt, executive director of the American Humanist Association. He says that ‘Morality doesn’t come from religion. It’s a set of values embraced by individuals and society based on empathy, fairness and experience.’

“Codes of morality, of course, have always been grounded in religion. For those of us in Western civilization, its tenets emanate from the Judeo-Christian ethos. By casting this heritage aside, and replacing it with nothing more than the conscience of lone individuals, we lay the groundwork for moral anarchy. And that is because there is nothing that cannot be justified if the only moral benchmark is what men and women posit to be right and wrong. Indeed, every monster in history has followed his conscience.

“We know that militant secularists are busy flexing their muscles these days, but is it too much to expect them to act rationally? Highly recommended would be what we Catholics call ‘an examination of conscience,’ a process best fulfilled by repairing to the
Catholic Catechism
for guidance.”

On Sunday, November 9, a band of about 30 gays stormed a church in Lansing, Michigan. Some were well dressed and were stationed inside Mount Hope Church; others were outside dressed in pink and black. The group of self-described homosexual anarchists, Bash Back!, claims the evangelical church is guilty of “transphobia and homophobia.”

The protesters outside the church were beating on buckets, shouting “Jesus was a homo” on a megaphone and carrying an upside-down pink cross. Fire alarms went off inside the church, protesters stormed the pulpit and a huge rainbow-colored flag was unfurled with the inscription, “IT’S OKAY TO BE GAY! BASH BACK!” The church was vandalized, obscenities were shouted and worshippers were confronted. There were no arrests.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue addressed this issue today:

“The real story here is the refusal of the mainstream media to cover what is surely one of the most disturbing events of 2008. If an organized group of gay bashers stormed a gay church, there is not a single sentient person in the United States who wouldn’t know about it.

“This is urban fascism come to America’s heartland. It must be quickly stopped before it gets out of control. We are contacting Mike Cox, the Attorney General of Michigan, calling for an investigation.”

Governor Bobby Jindal Signs Executive Order Making Louisiana Third State to Participate in the United States Army's Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) Program

BATON ROUGE – Today, Governor Bobby Jindal issued an executive order making Louisiana the third state to participate in the Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) Program, which helps facilitate interviews for qualified United States Army veterans that connect them to available state jobs.

The United States Army Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) Program engages employers, such as the state of Louisiana, to recruit former Army active and reserve members into available jobs upon their honorable discharge. The U.S. Army has already partnered with companies across the country through the program, such as Shell, Wells Fargo, State Farm, and Regions Bank. Recently, the state of Hawaii became the first state to participate in the program followed by Wisconsin.

Greta Sits Down With Gov. Palin

This was a good interview for the Governor and I especially appreciated Greta's question selection. It was important that the Governor was able to respond to the outrageous smears on her. Glenn Beck stopped by The O'Reilly Factor tonight. Of course, O'Reilly was arrogant as usual. It was good to see Glenn back on the air. I can't wait to see his new show. He will also be appearing every Friday on The O'Reilly Factor. I though Glenn stuck up for Gov. Watch On The Record Tonight

Don't forget, Gov. Palin will be On The Record, with Greta Van Susteren, tonight. I have been hearing a lot of misinformation and pure garbage about Gov. Palin the past few days so I would hope that instead of adopting a herd mentality that open minded conservatives will tune in and listen to what Gov. Palin has to say.

My wife and I have been following her regularly for well over a year now and have found her extremely intelligent. It is truly a shame to see her slandered over two bad interviews out of all the interviews she has given. Before she was even picked for VP I was impressed with her grasp of the energy issue and conservatism in general. I personally want someone who has strong convictions and stands by them.

I have seen too many so called experienced Washington insiders shred our Constitution and run our country into the ground. It is time for conservative principles and fresh ideas, which is exactly what conservatives like Gov. Palin and Gov. Jindal offer. Conservatives need to make sure that we don't help the MSM and the socialist left destroy our own candidates. I find it disgusting that so many RINO's on our side are eagerly taking part in the character assassination of Gov. Palin.

I was glad to see that she gave this interview to Greta because I know it will be conducted fairly. It is important that we question and research our leaders, but that is completely different than joining in with the character assassination underway against Gov. Palin because she has the nerve to be a woman and a conservative.

American Life League Press Release

6 October 2008
CONTACT: Katie Walker

Baltimore, MD (6 November 2008)

WHEN: Tuesday, Nov. 11, 2008, 7 p.m.

WHERE: Promenade outside the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel, 700 Aliceanna St., Baltimore, MD, 21202

WHO: American Life League, Maryland Right to Life, Defend Life and the Catholic Media Coalition will gather in prayer for the United States Catholic Conference of Bishops (USCCB).

WHAT: Prayer vigil and press conference to address the USCCB's Fall Assembly and the Nov. 11 full-page ad in USA Today entreating the bishop's to enforce Canon 915. The bishops will discuss the practical and pastoral implications of political support for abortion at the meeting.

WHY: Over 123 U.S. bishops spoke out against abortion in the 2008 presidential election, yet pro-abortion Catholic politicians continue to shape abortion policy while receiving Holy Communion in dioceses across the country. Are Catholics heeding the words of their bishops? How will the Catholic bishop's enforce the Church's teaching on abortion?

On Nov. 11, American Life League will run a full-page advertisement in USA Today imploring the bishops to stop allowing pro-abortion politicians like Rep. Nancy Pelosi and Sen. Joe Biden to politicize Catholicism's most sacred Eucharist and to enforce Canon 915, which states:

"Those… obstinately persevering in grave and manifest sin are not to be admitted to holy communion.

Later that evening, a prayer vigil and press conference outside the USCCB's conference at the Baltimore Marriot Waterfront Hotel will herald an emerging and powerful lay outcry within the U.S. Catholic Church that demands accountability and leadership from the Catholic hierarchy with the belief that Catholics can end abortion in this country.

American Life League was co-founded in 1979 by Judie Brown. It is the largest grassroots Catholic pro-life organization in the United States and is committed to the protection of all innocent human beings from the moment of creation to natural death. Catholic League News Release

Francis Cardinal George, president of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops, addressed his fellow bishops in Baltimore today at the annual fall meeting. At the plenary session, George spoke affectionately about the success of Barack Obama, the nation’s first African American to be elected president of the United States.

Cardinal George also said that “The common good can never be adequately incarnated in any society when those waiting to be born can be legally killed” via abortion. The bishops gave him a warm response.

Commenting on this is Catholic League president Bill Donohue:

“More bishops spoke up this past election season about the horrors of abortion than ever before. Predictably, they were hammered not only by those who are squarely in the pro-abortion camp, but also by apologists for abortion who ascribe to a ‘common ground’ approach: This group is comprised of men and women who feign an interest in pro-life issues, but who nonetheless work tirelessly for pro-abortion politicians. It is not certain whom they have fooled.

“Among those not fooled is Cardinal George. Nowhere in his magnificent address did he cite the need for an increase in the minimum wage or the welfare budget as an adequate response to ending abortion. Indeed, he picked up on the ‘common ground’ lingo only to say that the ‘common ground cannot be found by destroying the common good.’

“No one is against social and economic measures that might reduce the likelihood of abortion. But no one who is seriously interested in putting an end to killing in the womb would ever suggest that such policies are sufficient That is why Cardinal George’s statement today is so important. It bodes well for what will happen this week in Baltimore.”
