Bold Leadership For Michigan

I have decided to endorse Jack Hoogendyk for Chairman of the Republican Party of Michigan. I had the privilege of meeting and speaking with Mr. Hoogendyk a couple of times a few years ago and have not forgotten him. He struck me as a politician actually concerned with economic growth in his area and how it was affecting the residents of his state. The Republican Party needs to rebuild nationwide, but one area especially in need is Michigan. There is an opportunity to put a good man at the helm. If you want to support this good conservative, visit his website.

Jack Hoogendyk on the Issues

Securing Our Borders

As the son of immigrants, I believe those who come here legally and obey the law should be able to pursue the American Dream. However, illegal immigration costs Michigan taxpayers hundreds of millions of dollars every year. I am committed to securing our borders and holding accountable employers who hire illegal immigrants.
I support making English the official language.

Jobs and the Economy

Business taxes must be lowered to provide more investment in Michigan's economy.
I support permanently eliminating the death tax.
I support free trade that mirrors the trade policies of other nations.
I have never voted for a tax increase and never will.
I support right to work legislation that allows employees the freedom to decide whether they will join a union and pay dues or not.
I am opposed to the "card check" bill which takes away a workers right to a private ballot on union membership votes

Preserving Traditional Values & Human Life

I believe that marriage should be between one man and one woman.
I believe that all people have a constitutionally guaranteed right to life from conception to natural death.
I support adult stem cell research, which has produced more than 70 cures and continues to make progress. I do not support embryonic stem cell research because it has continually failed to produce any cures and requires the destruction of a human embryo, which is human life.

Gas Prices and Energy

We need to reduce our dependence on foreign oil.
We must open up American oil fields for further exploration while protecting the environment.
I support the expansion of nuclear energy and clean coal technology.

Second Amendment

I have an "A" rating from the National Rifle Association and will continue to defend the constitutional right to bear arms.

Founding Fathers Quote - UPDATED

It cannot be emphasized too clearly and too often that this nation was founded, not by religionists, but by Christians; not on religion, but on the gospel of Jesus Christ. For this very reason, peoples of other faiths have been afforded asylum, prosperity, and freedom of worship here.

Patrick Henry

The Battle For Control - Dems Want Georgia Senate Seat

Here is a truly scary political ad running in Georgia. It wasn't bad enough that those like Obama, Pelosi, and Reid are pushing their socialist, liberal agendas, but the thought that they might actually gain the ability to pass them sickens me. Please get the word out and help in any way you can in this critical battle.

Attention Homseschoolers

Greta put the following on her blog today; "What do you think about homeschooling your children? Is homeschool a good idea?" My husband and I don't homeschool, but we strongly support parents' rights to chose that option so we wanted to pass on this information in case you wanted to comment on Greta's post.

On Thursday, November 20, 2008 between 7:00 - 8:00 pm EST, Catholic League President Bill Donohue will appear on CNN's “Lou Dobbs Tonight” to discuss a variety of issues pertaining to the Catholic Church.

The Red Cross "Holiday Mail For Heroes" Program

A Catholic Mom in Hawaii shared this link with us. Here is a great opportunity to support out troops and their families this Holiday Season. Even in this struggling economy I have seen God's blessings and provisions for our family and have seen how great he loves us. There are others in great need who need us to share the gifts of love God has granted us. Please consider participating in Holiday Mail for Heroes for the Holidays.

Intolerant Gay Activist Terrorism Directed Toward Blacks and Christians

I just read a good article by Thomas Sowell at about the entitled attitudes plaguing our new, selfish, and liberal voter blocks. Attitudes that have allowed them to feel "above the law" and to exhibit intolerance out of control.

These voter blocks with special interests have resorted to mob terrorism to attempt to force their beliefs down everyone else's throats. They scream for tolerance, but show absolutely none towards people who don't share their beliefs and even resort to attacking their own. The rioting and mob assaults on blacks and Christians is nothing more than terrorism and must not be allowed, yet it is.

Almost by definition, everybody thinks their cause is just. Does that mean that nobody has to obey the rules? That is called anarchy.

Nobody is in favor of anarchy. But some people want everybody else to obey the rules, while they don't have to.

What they want is not decisive, however. It is what other people are willing to tolerate that determines how far any group can go.

When the majority of the people become like sheep, who will tolerate intolerance rather than make a fuss, then there is no limit to how far any group will go. [read the entire article]

Catholic League News Release

Beaufort County Councilwoman Laura Von Harten blasted the Catholic Church yesterday for its strictures regarding the priesthood and its teachings on abortion. She took the occasion to vent at a scheduled hearing regarding a zoning request by a local Catholic church, St. Gregory the Great in Bluffton, South Carolina, that would allow it to expand. She was quickly denounced by several area residents for her comments; when the vote was taken, she recused herself.

Von Harten ripped the Catholic Church for not allowing women priests and for its position on what she called “uterus rights,” saying they were “an affront to my dignity and all womankind.”

Here is what Catholic League president Bill Donohue had to say:

“Without the slightest provocation, Laura Von Harten decided to bash Catholicism. This suggests an animus so deep as to call into question her fitness for public service. She should do more than recuse herself on matters Catholic—she should resign from her post as councilwoman. There is no legitimate role for bigots in public life.”

Catholic League News Release

Catholic League president Bill Donohue commented today on columnist Kathleen Parker’s piece from yesterday on religion and politics:

“In one of the most infamous articles ever written about people of faith, Michael Weisskopf called evangelicals ‘largely poor, uneducated and easy to command.’ He wrote that in the
Washington Post
in 1993. Fast forward 15 years to the Internet site of the same newspaper and what we have is another stab at evangelicals, only this time the goal is more wide ranging: Kathleen Parker wants to privatize religion.

“Parker labels conservative evangelicals ‘oogedy-boogedy’ people with their ‘armband religion,’ the kind of folks that ‘used to be relegated to wooden crates on street corners.’ She wants to know why anyone would pay attention to such slugs, or what she calls the ‘lowest brows’ among us. Then she sets her sights higher by saying that religion must be ‘returned to the privacy of one’s heart where it belongs.’

“When Pope Benedict XVI was in Washington last April, he said, ‘Any tendency to treat religion as a private matter must be resisted.’ He was right. That’s what they do in Castro’s Cuba—they privatize religion.

“Traditional Catholics, evangelical Protestants and Orthodox Jews, as well as most Mormons and Muslims, are joined at the hip in the culture war. They will continue to fight the good fight and will not be deterred by those whose inflated perch sits above the ‘lowest brows,’ including those raised on ‘wooden crates on street corners.’ Not only will they not recede from public life, they will bring their religious values to bear in the public square with increased vigor.

“Maureen Dowd has inspired a flock of female wannabes. Whatever might be said about Dowd, the woman knows how to write a cogent piece. Would that her imitators at least aspire to her level.”

Catholic League News Release

Catholic League president Bill Donohue discusses what’s at stake regarding the religious rights of health providers:

“For the past several months, the Bush administration has been drafting regulations that would protect the rights of doctors, nurses and health workers from being discriminated against if they refuse to perform or assist in abortions, as well as other morally contentious procedures. At stake are the religious rights of these professionals. We urge President Bush to move quickly before the next administration begins.

“President-elect Barack Obama has pledged his support for the Freedom of Choice Act (FOCA), a bill so draconian that it would jeopardize the right of Catholic hospitals and doctors to refuse to perform abortions. Now the Religious Coalition for Reproductive Choice has sent him a letter calling on him to make good on his pledge. But if he were to do that, it would lead, in the words of one Vatican official, to the ‘equivalent of a war.’

“To put it differently, were FOCA to become law (it needs to be reintroduced in the House), the culture war that the Vatican official was referring to would come to a boiling point. In practical terms, this would mean the closure of every Catholic hospital in the nation: No bishop is going to stand by and allow the federal government to dictate what medical procedures must be performed in Catholic hospitals. Make no mistake about it, the bishops would shut down Catholic hospitals before acquiescing in the intentional killing of an innocent child. Were this to happen, it would not only cripple the poor, it would cripple the Obama administration.

“It is for reasons like these that the Catholic League urges President Bush to move with dispatch in instituting rules protecting the religious rights of all health care workers. If Obama wants to undo them, it will set up a confrontation he will surely regret.”

On To Auburn

Crimson Tide Holds First Bye-Week Practice

Caldwell, Arenas said the Tide worked on fundamentals on Tuesday

Nov. 18, 2008

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. – After a two-day layoff, the No. 1 ranked University of Alabama football team returned to the practice field Tuesday afternoon for its first of three bye-week practices at the Thomas-Drew Practice Facility.

The Crimson Tide will enjoy its second open date of the 2008 season this weekend before closing out the regular season next weekend against arch-rival Auburn on Saturday, Nov. 29 at Bryant-Denny Stadium. The game will be nationally televised by CBS Sports with kickoff set for 2:30 p.m. (CST).

Bama Keeps No. 1

No. 1 Alabama Stays Unbeaten With 32-7 Win Over Mississippi State

The Crimson Tide's defense held the Bulldogs to 35 yards rushing and 132 yards through the air.
Nov. 15, 2008

No. 1 Alabama (11-0 overall, 7-0 in the Southeastern Conference) got 18 points off special teams and two rushing touchdowns to stay unbeaten on the season with a 32-7 win over Mississippi State (3-7 overall, 1-5 in the SEC) at Bryant-Denny Stadium in Tuscaloosa. Alabama's special teams performance included three field goals, a blocked punt for a safety and 153 yards in punt returns from Javier Arenas, including an 80-yard return for a touchdown.

That's my Bama!

These Are The Voters Who Gave You Obama

It is disgusting to see what will come out and vote for socialism. These voters can't even get the liberal lies that the MSM spins right. The right to vote has absolutely been abused and taken for granted.

The Next RNC Chairman Must Be Conservative And Pro-Life

I received an email from Republican National Coalition for Life that lays out some more disturbing information on Michael Steele's pro-choice associations. Michael Steele may be pro-life, unfortunately we don't know that for sure, and this just raises more doubts. I have been a supporter of his, but was hesitant to support him for chairman because of his moderate views. We need true conservatives in charge of the party. One of the things that cost McCain so many votes was his support for embryonic stem cell research. A friend of mine who also blogs quoted this as the reason she would not support him. Has the Party really not learned its lesson. Now is the time to return to our conservative principles not repeat the same mistakes.

I have no doubt that the Obama Administration will wage all out war on the pro-life community. We are going to need strong defenders in the Republican Party who will stand up and defend the innocent unborn. There can be no equivocation and it does not appear that Michael Steele is the man for the job. I also do not think Saul Anuzis or Chip Saltsman should be chosen. Michigan's Republican Party is in shambles under Saul Anuzis' leadership and Chip Saltsman ran a divisive campaign that could result in Mormon Republicans and Catholic Republicans withholding their support.

E.D. Hill, You Will Be Missed

Yet another reason to cut my viewing time on Fox News. E.D. Hill's contract will not be renewed. I think this is a mistake. I enjoyed watching her over the years on Fox News. This just seems to point to the fact that Fox is going to continue moving to the left. As I have said before, I used to have Fox on all day. Now I only catch a few choice programs. If they continue to make themselves more like CNN and MSNBC they will see their ratings dive; its bad business.

I have no doubt that E.D. Hill will be able to find a job elsewhere, but I will greatly miss her at Fox. My wife and I have a large family and it was nice to see someone who was conservative and pro-family on a national news channel.

In Recognition Of My Soulmate

I found yesterday's daily reading extra special. My wife has been a true blessing in my life and I try to tell her that regularly.

When one finds a worthy wife,
her value is far beyond pearls.
Her husband, entrusting his heart to her,
has an unfailing prize.
She brings him good, and not evil,
all the days of her life.
She obtains wool and flax
and works with loving hands.
She puts her hands to the distaff,
and her fingers ply the spindle.
She reaches out her hands to the poor,
and extends her arms to the needy.
Charm is deceptive and beauty fleeting;
the woman who fears the LORD is to be praised.
Give her a reward for her labors,
and let her works praise her at the city gates.

Another Draft Palin For President Movement

The other day I did a post informing you of a Draft Governor Sarah Palin website. Now I have just learned of another one. Here is the link to the website and Hot Air's article on it.

Founding Fathers Quote

Statesmen, my dear Sir, may plan and speculate for liberty, but it is religion and morality alone, which can establish the principles upon which freedom can securely stand. The only foundation of a free Constitution is pure virtue, and if this cannot be inspired into our People in a greater Measure than they have it now, they may change their rulers and the forms of government, but they will not obtain a lasting liberty.

Medicaid Bailout?

In advance of a House Energy and Commerce Committee hearing on various ways to “stimulate” the economy, and possible legislative action during a lame-duck session on the same issues, the RSC has prepared this one-pager listing ten possible conservative concerns associated with a temporary increase in the Medicaid FMAP matching rate:

Conservative Activity

--Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) sent this letter to Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, urging him to take additional steps to prevent “bailout” funds from being used for foreign acquisitions:

--Rep. Bob Inglis (R-SC) sent this letter to Treasury Secretary Hank Paulson, urging him to use “look-back” procedures to ensure that recipients of “bailout” funds didn’t pay executives large compensation packages immediately before applying for bailout funds:

--Rep. Doug Lamborn (R-CO) wrote this op-ed touting the benefits of American oil shale:

--Rep. Kevin Brady (R-TX) and 110 other House Republicans sent this letter to U.S. Trade Representative Susan Schwab, expressing concerns over the actions of the Thai Government to expropriate U.S. pharmaceutical products “without meaningful prior consultation with the patent holder”:

Each week in "The Money Monitor," the RSC tracks how the bills passed by the House would affect authorizations, mandatory spending, appropriations, and federal government revenue. Catholic League News Release

On the November 14 episode of the HBO show, “Real Time with Bill Maher,” the comedian said the following:

“A Catholic priest in South Carolina has told his congregation: If you voted for Obama you can’t receive Communion. That’s right. The cracker won’t let you get the cracker. He said supporting Obama constitutes material cooperation with intrinsic evil. Then he proceeds to pass around the plate so everyone could chip in to payoff the child f------ lawsuits.”

Catholic League president Bill Donohue spoke to this issue today:

“Maher has a long and ugly history of bashing Catholicism, and he typically goes for the jugular. In his season finale, he managed to mock the Eucharist, paint priests as molesters, call a priest he knows nothing about a racist and seriously misrepresent what this South Carolina priest said about voting for Obama (note: Father Jay Scott Newman did not say what Maher attributed to him).

“HBO would never allow a comedian to continually disparage any one of a series of highly protected classes of persons (persons protected by the politically correct police, that is). But when it comes to Catholics, it’s a different story—they’re fair game. Ironically, on the exact day Maher struck again, a survey was released showing that 61 percent of Americans believe that ‘Religious values are under attack in this country.’ It could also be said that no religious values are under more attack than those espoused by Roman Catholicism. And for that we can thank bigots like Bill Maher, and his executive friends at HBO.”

Founding Fathers Quote

Our country is in danger, but not to be despaired of. Our enemies are numerous and powerful; but we have many friends, determining to be free, and heaven and earth will aid the resolution. On you depend the fortunes of America. You are to decide the important question, on which rest the happiness and liberty of millions yet unborn. Act worthy of yourselves.
