The Tide At The Sugar Bowl

Bet you thought I forgot to post on Alabama at the Sugar Bowl? No way, just running behind, the household has been chaos today. Even with Andre Smith being suspended we are looking at an exciting game tonight; and another chance for Alabama to prove why the current system that has placed them in a #4 ranking is ineffective and needs to be thrown out. In case you missed Coach Saban's press conference yesterday click here. Well they just kicked off, got to go. Go Bama!

Palestinian rockets reach Beersheva, trans-Israel highway

Palestinian rockets reach Beersheva, trans-Israel highway

Palestinian terrorists operating out of the Gaza Strip hit the southern Israel city of Beersheva with rockets for the first time early Wednesday morning, causing damage but no injuries.

By midday, at least five Grad-type missiles had struck the city of 200,000 that is often referred to as the "capital of the Negev."

One of the rockets punched a hole in the roof of a local high school. Fortunately, the city had decided to cancel school for the day after the first rocket fell, so no students were present during the attack.

At least one rocket reportedly hit Highway 6, the new trans-Israel highway that currently stretches from just north of Beersheva to the Upper Galilee region. There were no injuries in that attack.

Among at least 35 other Palestinian rocket attacks on Wednesday morning were three strikes on the coastal city of Ashkelon while Israeli President Shimon Peres was visiting its shell-shocked residents in local bomb shelters.

Two Israelis were lightly wounded when two missiles hit the neighboring port city of Ashdod earlier in the morning.

Israel continued to respond to the Palestinian rockets with powerful air strikes against Hamas targets across the Gaza Strip.

Among the targets hit on Wednesday were the Gaza City office of Hamas Prime Minister Ismail Haniyeh (who is currently in hiding with the rest of the Hamas leadership) and several weapons smuggling tunnels running under the Gaza-Egypt border.

Israeli military officials said that Hamas had already suffered a significant during more than four days of Israeli strikes, and vowed to press forward until the terrorists are no longer able to threaten Israel.

Lineman Smith Puts Himself Before The Crimson Tide

I could not be more disappointed in the alleged selfish acts of Andre Smith. The bowl game being so close really makes it appear worse that Smith could not hold out until after the season was over to secure his future. It is not like he would have lost out on any deals, his reputation is hard to ignore and would have secured him an NFL offer even after he and his team went to the Sugar Bowl. I am glad to see that Saban did what it appears Smith should have done; put the team first.

Crimson Tide coach Nick Saban informed his team that junior left tackle Andre Smith, a unanimous All-American and this year's Outland Trophy winner as the top lineman in college football, was being sent home from the bowl site and suspended for Friday night's Sugar Bowl against Utah.

The school has delved into details of a possible improper association between Smith or a person representing his interest with a sports agent, sources told the Press-Register. Alabama officials would not confirm that account, but it appears Smith's pending NFL Draft decision has now been made. [read entire article]

The Truth Is Out There - Israel Is Not The Bad Guy

I wanted to update you on Israel and the conflict in the Gaza Strip since the MSM is obviously biased against Israel. First of all, to get the truth out Israel has opened their own YouTube account. Confederate Yankee has a good article on it.

Another story, you probably have not heard about, in the MSM is Israel lets humanitarian aid into Gaza.

Here is one of the YouTube videos from Israel's YouTube account showing their precision bombing, contrary to the exaggerations and false accusations you hear in the MSM.

Ken Blackwell's Take On Bush's Perversion Of Limited Government

Bush's Big Government Gambit
by Ken Blackwell

The parallels to the 1920s and 1930s are remarkable. Republican President Calvin Coolidge was a staunch conservative, presiding over the Roaring Twenties. Republican President Herbert Hoover was a moderate who tried major government intervention in the face of the economic downturn of 1929, with disastrous results. This then gave an excuse to incoming Democrat President Franklin Roosevelt to radically expand the federal government, spending untold sums in an effort to end the Great Depression.

But those efforts failed miserably. They did nothing to ameliorate the Great Depression, which instead got even worse in the late 1930s after five years of FDR’s New Deal programs. It was only World War II - the largest military conflict in world history - that finally revived this nation’s economy. [read more]

Thomas Sowell On The Absurd Expectations Of Voters And The Arrogance Of Politicians

The Art of the Impossible
by Thomas Sowell

Of course this system can work only where just a fraction of the new housing is sold "below market." Moreover, the market price of housing is raised so far above what it was by building restrictions that even "below market" prices for condominiums in Palo Alto can run to $300,000 or $400,000.

This is hardly "affordable housing" for people on modest incomes. Only 7 percent of Palo Alto's police, for example, live in Palo Alto-- probably older cops who bought their homes long ago.

But none of that matters politically. What matters is that people in Palo Alto can feel good about themselves, by being for both "open space" and "affordable housing." Happy voters are what get politicians re-elected. [read more]

Latest Report On Columbia Disaster Could Save Lives has a great breakdown here, on the new report. It's obvious, in this report, that NASA has learned valuable lessons after the tragic loss of Columbia and her crew. The very fact that this report was made public is evidence of NASA's commitment to safeguarding the lives of our astronauts.

While this report is necessary it, no doubt, is hard on their families. Let's keep them in prayer.

Catholic-Orthodox Statement Notes Problems With Declining Global Birth Rates

by Steven Ertelt Editor
December 30, 2008

Washington, DC ( -- Participants in the First European Catholic-Orthodox Forum chose to emphasize the coming crisis of declining birth rates as the main topic of their meeting. That came as a delight to the producer of the move Demographic Winter, who says the underpopulation problem is growing.

Meeting in Trent, Italy earlier this month, 30 delegates from the Orthodox Churches, European Bishops Conference and the Vatican met to discuss their common concerns on family matters. [

Media's All Out Assault On Israel

No surprise here, but the MSM is siding with the terrorists and extremists against Israel. Here are a couple of examples: News media falsely portraying Gaza attack and Report: Hamas hiding most potent missiles under Gaza hospital.

Let's make sure we inform as many of our friends and family of the truth as possible. Israel is in need of our support and prayers right now.

Arizona Lawmakers Likely to Submit New Abortion Bills With Napolitano Leaving

by Steven Ertelt Editor
December 29, 2008

Phoenix, AZ ( -- Members of the Arizona legislature appear likely to renew some of the abortion debates of past sessions with the likelihood that pro-abortion Gov. Janet Napolitano won't be in office to veto their bills. Napolitano has vetoed eight pro-life bills that would have put common-sense abortion limits in place.

Those bills range from measures to inform women of the risks of abortion, prohibit non-doctors from doing abortions, and strengthened current laws requiring parental consent before a minor can have an abortion. [read more]

Focus On The Family Stabs Glenn Beck In The Back

I was appalled when I read this article. The logical fix would have simply been to add a notation that Glenn is a Mormon. I hope more Protestants will look at what binds us together instead of looking for the differences. I am personally a Catholic, but I will accept all the allies I can get. With Obama in power we all need to work together.
