Out-Of-Touch Leadership Is In For A Big Surprise

I have been working and volunteering in politics for years and greatly enjoy it, but I have given up on working within the local Republican Party. After years of doing whatever they needed help with I had an interesting thing happen earlier this year. At the monthly meeting a representative for our congressman asked the county chairman for someone to help get their message out through the district.

Our chairman quickly turned to me and said 'this is your guy and you will do it, right?' I, unfortunately, had to tell him that I could not because I did not support the congressman. You could have heard a pin drop as they both asked why I did not support the congressman. I politely, but thoroughly explained all the areas the congressman had betrayed us Conservatives, how he had supported big government agenda, and given cover to Nancy Pelosi on several crucial votes.

I then pointed out his disdain for those of us who want our borders secured, even though he had a decent record on the subject. I instantly went from being well respected to an outcast. Later when the county chairman stopped into the headquarters on a campaign I was working on he again brought up the subject. When I would not back down he told me how kooky I sounded and that I wasn't rational; that we have to support candidates we don't agree with in order to regain the majority.

He also admitted to me that he did not support the congressman for any other reason than he was a Republican. He also admitted that he agreed with me on most of the policy differences I had, yet because I would not tow the Party line I was suddenly kooky and worthless.

Now this is a very long story and I apologize for that, but when at first it was just a few of us I have now seen it morph into what I believe to be the majority opinion in the Party. We are no longer willing to settle for the scraps the Party throws our way. The ones who are kooky are those who haven't woken up to that fact.

I think Doug Hoffman is going to win the New York 23rd and Marco Rubio is going to win Florida. In every state we now see races where Conservative and Libertarian minded candidates are putting themselves in the cross hairs and giving us a true choice. When Party politics and insiders sided against Hoffman he could have backed down and went home, but instead he stood up and fought to give Conservatives in his district a choice. He should be applauded as should every candidate and citizen who will no longer sit on the bench and just watch the game. This is what Newt neglected to notice when he sided against Conservatives.

Dude, you're being completely irrational. Here's what said above:

I then pointed out his disdain for those of us who want our borders secured, even though he had a decent record on the subject.

How can someone have a "decent record" -- you own words -- on border security and yet have "disdain for those of us who want our borders secured"?

That's a complete contradiction. If he has complete disdain, then he wouldn't have a remotely "decent record on the subject" -- he would have an awful voting record.

Make up your mind, otherwise no one's going to care what you think.

I don't think you put much effort into what I actually wrote. John McCain has a decent Conservative rating, yet has shown nothing but disdain for Conservatives through out his career.

I see on your blog that you mention the rating system for Congress. This system is a useful tool, but that is all it is. Various members of Congress vote for meaningless bills, but when the funding or enforcment portions come up they vote against them, which gives them a decent rating without them actually supporting true enforcement.

In the case of my Congressman he has accused members of Congress and pro-border enforcement citizens of fear mongering and other things on the illegal immigration issue. You have to look at their total voting record and how they interact with the voters of their district to get the true picture. We are not being represented in this Congressional District and I know that from my own experience.

DR, I'd have said the same things you did. Stick to your guns. No "R" is worthy of my vote unless he, she or it supports the conservative principles which made this country great.

Our newest Senator (a "D") sounded VERY conservative in his campaign ads. I know him, and knew that he was pro-business when Mayor, here. Since he went to Washington, he has supported the Democrat agenda on every issue except those pertaining specifically to our state. Sorry, but that's not good enough.

DR,
Absolutely exceptional of you! I cannot tell you how much sympathy and support I am sending your way through prayers. It is time and past to take a stand against lip service and simply supporting someone who deigns to accept a party designation so that they can have the financial and volunteer support of that party without actually embracing it's principles. (And I hope that makes sense to you.)
Having had recent personal experience, I am absolutely aware of what it takes to stand up to the "authority figures" who expect you to back down on matters of principle and then humiliate you when you won't. I applaud your strength of character and thank you for it. I also feel for you, because I know it breaks your heart just the same.

Rev. Paul,

I completely agree with you. I am glad that a lot of people are starting to stand up.

I have actually been following both of your senators for the past several months. I had a sudden interest to see how they vote. Looks like neither one is a strong supporter of states' rights or limited government, but just my opinion.

Though you guys are more blessed than us; we have two socialists for senators.

Call Me Mom,

Thank you for such a thoughtful comment. We are truly blessed with the friends we have gotten to know through this blog, of which I count you as one.

I understood exactly what you meant. What's the problem, DR?

I heard you were having a temporary liberal troll problem over here. Is that all straightened out?

CG,

Well of course you understood it, you are a thoughtful, self educating individual. Unfortunately, most of the left refuses to think rationally or to step out of their little shells. I actually deleted most of the comments I got on this post because of the language used.

Appears that our liberal leftist friends aren't quite as tolerant as they claim to be, are they?Unless of course the mistake is mine and 'tolerance' has also been redefined by them, too.

They're a rather filthy-mouthed bunch. But killing children, the elderly and the sick tends to have those kinds of long-term effects on people (and their offspring) that way.

No, there is no tolerance at all on the Left.
