RSC Video: It's Going to be a Long Recovery

VE Day

We remember and thank our WWII vets on this Victory in Europe Day.

Michael Reagan - Listening Tour Is Republican Gimmickry

Michael Reagan calls Republican leadership out for refusing to listen to the conservative base. The Republican leadership are fools, they have had more than enough time to listen to what the base wants. They already know what we want; they just don't like it. They don't accept our demands and our principles and believe that making deals with the devil will give them back the power they lost.

Hello, it was the voters who voted that power away!!!!! So, how is leaning left (and away from their base) going to get them back the power they so desire? It won't. If a liberal has the choice between a true Democrat and a moderate with an R at the end of their name they are not going to go with the knock off; they are going to go with the genuine article.

They just won't get it (power), until they get it (we want conservative). All this talk of moving away from Reagan and such is what will keep them out of power.

Financial Problems Are Not Resolved By Credit

If we lived our personal lives the way the government has run under big spending leaders we would all go down in flames. You cannot save your financial stability by throwing credit at it. That credit has a way of catching up to you; you know, eventually you have to pay it back plus interest. Apparently, the government doesn't feel this applies to state and municipal bonds and Michele Bachmann calls them out on it.

Having basic knowledge of economics should be a requirement for every elected official who has a hand in the pot of taxpayer funded budgets. In fact, if they had to throw in a portion of their own paycheck every time they spent ours maybe they wouldn't be so arrogant about throwing it into the winds of earmarks.

Dems And Liberals Require American Employers To Be Racist

With their racist and doctoral laws and requirements the Dems and liberals have put employers between a rock and a hard place. No matter what choice they make they are racist and at risk of being sued by the supposed victimised party. Unfortunately, as Pat Buchanan points out most employers these days error on the side of caution and award positions to minorities who are not qualified except that they are a minority.

House Republicans Remind The Country Of The Importance Of Guantanamo Bay

The Democrat outrage will no doubt be border line hysteria after seeing this. These are the type of ads we should see more of. No doubt the talking heads will declare them as fear mongering, but it is simply an issue ad. Reminding the public of the truth is never wrong.

Catholic Prayers

O Jesus Christ, Messiah and Lord,
grant me joyful acceptance of the surgery
which awaits me,
and let this be the relief and cure which I seek.
Make skilled the work of the surgeon
and that of his team
for it is unto their knowledge and skill
that I give myself for healing.
I pray You, O Lord,
that this procedure will be without complication,
and that my recovery will be speedy and complete.
This prayer is dedicated to all of those who are facing surgery and for myself as I prepare for surgery. I pray that God protects and keeps you in his loving hands.

Washington, DC (LifeNews.com) -- House Republicans have used a rare Congressional procedure to force a potential probe of documents the Obama administration released calling pro-life people "right-wing extremists." The move forces a Congressional panel to vote on a resolution calling for an investigation. [

VATICAN’S POSITION ON “ANGELS & DEMONS”

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the Vatican’s position on “Angels & Demons”:

“The Vatican has apparently decided on a three track strategy to deal with ‘Angels & Demons’: ban Ron Howard from filming on its grounds; low ball any negative comments before the movie debuts; and slam it for its stereotypical portrayals while conceding its cinematic value.

“Howard was denied access to the Vatican because of his previous exploitation of the Catholic Church in ‘The Da Vinci Code.’ The Vatican also decided that reticence was the best way to handle ‘Angels & Demons’; it did not want Howard to use any negative comments it might make to boost sales. Now
L’Osservatore Romano
has weighed in saying that although the movie is entertaining, it is also filled with historical inaccuracies and ‘stereotyped characters.’

“On the first page of the booklet I wrote on this subject, I commented on Dan Brown’s
Angels & Demons. ‘The book,’ I said, ‘if read purely for entertainment purposes, has its merits.’ But in the Introduction, I made clear my motive: ‘This booklet was written to debunk the mythology, lies and smears of Dan Brown’s book, Angels & Demons
, and the movie upon which it is based.’ The Vatican’s position essentially dovetails with this assessment, albeit in a more restrained fashion.

“The cautious approach taken by
L’Osservatore Romano
is not surprising. The newspaper, edited by a layman, Professor Giovanni Maria Vian, is known as the semi-official Vatican daily. The editor boasts of his autonomy in running stories, especially in writing editorials (the movie review was the subject of two editorials), and in hiring Jews, Muslims and non-believers to work for him. Not exactly Catholic command central.

“The Catholic League’s goal all along has been to issue a big FYI about this movie. Enjoy it for the fun of it, but don’t be seduced by Brown-Howard into thinking it is based on historical facts.”

NRCC Video: Steve King And Sean Hannity On Hate Crimes Legislation

Update On SR

Just wanted to let everyone know the hospital called this morning and SR will have to have surgery. I appreciate everyones prayers and ask that you continue to pray. I am sure God will be with her and everything will be fine.

Your Chance Now To Object To Pedophile Protection Act

Here is a link explaining how you can protest the pending Pedophile Protection Act. This unconstitutional legislation would protect the vilest of society and could instead make law abiding citizens the criminals.

Tired of the Dems and liberals protecting criminals while making criminals out of good people who have broken no law? The hate crimes legislation is unconstitutional and therefore invalid. Speak up now or forever hold your piece; because if passed they will use it to shut up their political opponents. Political prisoners, prisoners of political correctness, will be considered the scourge of America.

Prayer Request Update

My friend let me know last night that the baby is doing better and appears to be fine; thank the Lord. Also, SR had her ultrasound today. I was naive in thinking we would know right away if she would need surgery. We will have to wait for her to go in to see her doctor.

Rep. Ron Paul's Hard Work Is Paying Off

Rep. Ron Paul has made major headway on getting the Fed audited. This is yet more good news for those of us who support the Constitution. WorldNetDaily reports that Rep. Paul now has 124 Congressmen supporting the audit. I would recommend you contact your Congressman. If they have already signed on thank them, if not encourage them to do so.

Oklahoma Draws Their Line In The Sand

If you live in Oklahoma today you should be proud. Your state just stood up for state's rights like few states are willing to do. Not even letting your governor derail the effort. Click here for more.

If more states follow Oklahoma's example we could reclaim our Republic as our founding fathers intended. Now the question is with your governor term limited in 2010 will the voters of Oklahoma elect a states rights Conservative to continue on this path.

The Obama Administration's Betrayal Of Israel Continues

Just when you thought this administration could not betray Israel any further this comes out. The article says it all, so instead of rehashing that I want to add how dangerous this administration's foreign policy is. They have done nothing but weaken our Republic on the World stage; cozying up to dictators, while snubbing and betraying our allies.

These radical shifts in US policy are going to have consequences and not just for us. I am so conflicted on Obama; is he literally this naive or is he so radical that he would purposely weaken our allies and our Republic? You know what the Dems say; elections have consequences.

OPEN LETTER ON HATE CRIMES BILL:
PROTECT RELIGIOUS SPEECH

Senator Edward Kennedy and Senator Patrick Leahy have introduced a hate crimes bill that parallels the House version. Catholic League president Bill Donohue wrote to them today about his concerns. The following is the text of his letter:

The driving force behind the Matthew Shepherd Hate Crimes Prevention Act is the desire to provide additional penalties to criminals who assault homosexuals because of their sexual orientation. Without commenting on the propriety of hate crimes legislation in general, the central problem with this bill is its chilling effect on religious speech.

To be specific, the bill would criminalize religious speech that was critical of homosexuality if it were linked to a crime against a gay person. How do I know this? Because when the bill was considered in the House, that is exactly what Rep. Louie Gohmert was told when he raised this issue. While assaulting anyone, independent of sexual orientation, is rightly considered a criminal offense, the prospect of criminalizing religious speech that proscribes certain sexual practices is beyond worrisome—it is downright dangerous.

The First Amendment protects freedom of speech and religious liberty, both of which are jeopardized under this bill. The chilling effect this legislation could have on the right of the clergy to address sinful behavior flies in the face of the spirit of the First Amendment. Surely there are ways to protect homosexuals from being singled out by anti-gay thugs without trespassing on the constitutional rights of priests, ministers, rabbis, imams and others. Accordingly, language that would accomplish this end should be included as an amendment.

Thank you for your consideration.

Founding Fathers Quote

Courage, then, my countrymen, our contest is not only whether we ourselves shall be free, but whether there shall be left to mankind an asylum on earth for civil and religious liberty.

Samuel Adams

Thomas Sowell On The Supreme Court

Thomas Sowell, in quite possibly his best post, makes very good points about Justice Souter's retirement. With Obama making the appointment and making empathy with certain groups a requirement in his choice means that equality under the Constitution would be one step closer to becoming a "white under-class" under the law.

With each appointee Obama chooses the Supreme Court moves from upholding the Constitution to interpreting it to protect their chosen groups. There would be no consideration, justice, or protection for anyone not a part of Obama's chosen because they would not be considered equal in the law. The only proof you need of this is the hate crimes legislation already passed. They are already letting their chosen know that if they are wronged or "offended" in any way by someone not protected under the hate crimes bill their justice will be swifter and stronger.

If you happen to be white and a man you probably won't see any justice at all under the hate crimes bill, let alone under a biased and stacked Supreme Court. You will be the new slave class of a "hopeful" and "changed" America.

Prayer Request

I am a firm believer in the power of prayer and I would like to ask our readers to keep a few people in prayer. First of all, my wife may have to have surgery. We find out Wednesday.

A good friend of mine's mother-in-law and sister-in-law need prayer. Also, his best friend's newborn is ill.

My mother was also hospitalized last week and I would appreciate if you keep them all in prayer.

Update from the House Republican Study Committee (RSC)

RSC Update: Monday, May 4, 2009

From the Chairman

Soon, Democrats will officially introduce another piece of their tax-hiking, big-government crusade against the American people. The so-called “cap and trade” bill that is working its way through the Congress is nothing but a massive National Energy Tax. In order to raise hundreds of billions of dollars for their runaway spending spree, President Obama, Nancy Pelosi and their Democrat friends want to take over $3,000 in new taxes from every American family. Consumers and businesses alike will feel the hit, as everyone who flips on a light switch will be forced to send more money to Washington.

While I have long believed that conservation is conservative, this legislation will have less impact on our environment than it will on our economy. This is just another proposal that puts liberal special interests before American families. Simply put, a National Energy Tax (disguised as “cap-and-trade”) will be a job killer at a time when our priority should be economic growth. While it’s a fantasy to think that a new tax will end climate change, the stark reality is that it will devastate our economy.

Instead, we should pursue energy policies that create the opportunity for economic growth instead of hindering it. Rather than penalizing families with new taxes, we should pursue a 21st century energy solution that focuses on conservation, innovation, and responsible production of American-made energy. New, clean renewable energy sources are the key to a sustainable environment and a stable economy. Washington should work toward positive solutions instead of taxing American families into obedience.

By setting in motion the genius and ingenuity of the American people, we can create a thriving new American energy economy that encourages growth instead of punishing everyday life. The Republican Study Committee will be at the forefront of the battle for energy solutions that work for all Americans, not just Washington Democrats. If you know someone who wants to join our fight for positive energy solutions, please send them to http://rsc.price.house.gov to receive updates and inside information.

Thanks for your support!

Sincerely,
Congressman Tom Price
Chairman, Republican Study Committee

RSC Media Activity
Every week, Republican Study Committee members work hard to ensure that the conservative viewpoint is well-represented in all corners of the media.

· Rep. Jeb Hensarling (TX-05): The True Causes of the Housing Crisis; Politico, April 29.

· Chairman Tom Price (GA-06): Judging the First 100 Days; Human Events, April 29.

· Rep. Lamar Smith (TX-21): 100 Days of Media Double Standards; Politico, April 30.

RSC Legislative Activity
RSC members have made it a priority to introduce productive, conservative alternatives to the Democrats’ reckless agenda.

· Rep. Jeff Flake (AZ-06), along with Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX), will introduce legislation that returns power to states by letting them opt out of federal transportation programs.

· Rep. Steve Scalise (LA-01) will introduce a bill that ensures that veterans receive important Veterans Administrations services in the wake of natural disasters.

· Rep. John Carter (TX-31) will send a letter to the Obama administration calling for the resignation of Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano in the wake of the DHS memo identifying mainstream conservative views as ‘extremist.’

· Rep. Jason Chaffetz (UT-03) will introduce a bill that requires utility companies to itemize specific costs of the Democrats’ National Energy Tax on customers’ utility bills.

House Floor Activity
The following key legislation came through the House of Representatives last week

· The finalized version of the Obama-Pelosi-Reid budget passed both houses of Congress, paving the way for $3.6 trillion in federal spending, a nearly-half trillion dollar tax hike, the six largest annual budget deficits in American history, and $5.2 trillion in new debt by 2014. In the House, 17 Democrats joined a united Republican Party in opposition to this reckless spending spree.

· The House of Representatives passed a so-called “hate crimes” bill that allows special treatment for certain groups. The unconstitutional bill can be used to punish thought, religious beliefs, and political speech – all of which are protected under the First Amendment.

· The House passed a credit card bill that will increase borrowing costs for consumers and stall economic recovery. Though the open flow of capital is essential to economic growth, this bill punishes responsible consumers and limits access to credit.

Money Monitor
Each week, the
RSC Money Monitor tracks how bills passed by the House affect authorizations, mandatory spending, and federal government revenue.

Good News And A Chance To Educate Ourselves

I am too tired to do detailed posts, but I could not let these stories go without bringing them to your attention. First, is a must read article, ranking all 50 states on freedom; Wisconsin is 37. My only surprise is that we are not worse.

Second thing I want to mention is Montana just gave a huge victory to pro-Tenth and Second Amendment citizens.

Catholic League News Release

“ANGELS & DEMONS” NEEDS DISCLAIMER

Catholic League president Bill Donohue explains why he wants a disclaimer in “Angels & Demons”; it debuts in Rome today and opens in the U.S. on May 15:

“India’s Censor Board has asked that a disclaimer be put in ‘Angels & Demons’ saying the movie is a work of fiction. It has also asked that certain scenes be deleted from the movie. The Board explained its position by saying ‘It has its guidelines and its duty, and if it thinks a film, any film, disparages a religious community or hurts religious feelings, it should take action under its code.’

“The Catholic League would like to see the same disclaimer inserted everywhere the movie is shown. The disclaimer is needed because director Ron Howard, drawing on the book by Dan Brown, is playing both sides of the street: he, and Brown, alternate between promoting their work as fact and fiction. Thus, to set the record straight they need to come clean and do for the rest of the world what they have already agreed to do in India—insert a disclaimer indicating its fictional nature.

“The Catholic League believes that cutting scenes is an infringement on the artistic rights of those associated with the film and therefore does not endorse this approach. But a disclaimer is different: it is nothing more than a variant of truth in advertising.

“India is only two percent Christian. If Sony, the film’s producer, and Howard have no problem putting in a disclaimer in India, they surely should be prepared to do the same wherever the movie is shown. When Sony released ‘The Merchant of Venice’ it opened with a disclaimer condemning anti-Semitism. Howard opened ‘A Beautiful Mind’ with a disclaimer noting how the film contains fictional aspects not found in the book by that name. Catholics, obviously, expect the same degree of respect.

“This is where the rubber meets the road: Howard says he is not anti-Catholic. Let’s see what he says about my request.”

Contrary to what you heard the Republican Party has had some good news lately In Iowa. The only thing that has kept the Democrats in the game, in my opinion, is the Republicans forgetting their roots and selling out.

My Initial Take On The National Council For A New America

First off, I noticed a lot of RINO's are a part of this group. I am also concerned that it will be an attempt to move the Party even further to the left. Here is an interview between Rep. Cantor and Gov. Romney with CNN discussing the group. As you will see in the video Conservatives are attack through out and there really is no effective counter.

After I watched the video I was more concerned than ever. I think this is part of the effort to move away from Reagan into a new brand of Conservatism. Should the Party ever decide to support same sex marriage, abortion, and big government I will, quite simply, leave.

Here is the release from Rep. Cantor. Most of it sounds pretty good, but doesn't it always? So with a cautious eye, I will be watching.

It Looks Like Ridge Is...

Seriously considering challenging Toomey. I just recently wrote about this subject, so if you want to read it click here. All I will add for now is if you want to support a true conservative and challenge the RINO's in the Party support and volunteer for Pat Toomey.
