Catholic League News Release

Evangelist Tony Alamo was convicted today on all counts of transporting minors across state lines for sex. Catholic League president Bill Donohue is delighted:

Tony Alamo Christian Ministries Worldwide was the name of his organization, and “World Pastor” was his name. Now this child-abusing, tax dodging, viciously anti-Catholic bigot is finally being put away for good. Convicted of having sex with girls as young as 9, and of multiple “marriages,” this supreme exploiter was convicted of tax evasion in 1994 and sent to prison while heading a multimillion-dollar business.

Had the blasphemy laws still been on the books, Alamo would have been sent to the slammer long ago (and many young girls would have been saved). Not surprisingly, we have a fat file on him at the Catholic League. Here are some of his more infamous remarks:

· “The Vatican is posing as Snow White, but the Bible says that she is a prostitute, ‘the great whore,’ a cult (Rev. 19:2).”
· “The cult (the Vatican) is very close to replacing our U.S. Constitution with her one-world, satanic canon laws of death to the ‘heretic’ (anyone who is not Roman Catholic).”
· “His [President John F. Kennedy’s] assassination was ordered by Rome, then planned and carried out by Jesuits, just as President Lincoln’s was. Anyone who knew too much about Mr. Kennedy’s assassination was taken care of too.”

No wonder Alamo blamed the Vatican for conspiring against him in the trial that just ended—he’s possessed with hatred of the Catholic Church. And he made a pretty good living off of it, as well. Moreover, he found no problem getting his hateful message across. Just last November he published a Catholic-bashing ad in the Fort Smith, Arkansas
Times Record, and in December he published one in the Long Island Press

Alamo’s attorneys said the government went after him because it didn’t like his “Christianity.” Lucky for them we don’t send all kooks to the asylum.

Sarah Palin Signs Sovereignty Resolution For Alaska

Founding Fathers Quote

The constitutions of most of our States assert that all power is inherent in the people; that they may exercise it by themselves in all cases to which they think themselves competent, or they may act by representatives, freely and equally chosen; that it is their right and duty to be at all times armed; that they are entitled to freedom of person, freedom of religion, freedom of property, and freedom of the press.

Boehner Statement on President Obama’s Visit to Ohio
GOP Leader: House Republicans Have Offered Better Solutions on the Economy, Health Care

Washington, Jul 23 - House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement on President Obama’s visit to Ohio this afternoon:

“A top priority for families in Ohio and across the nation is lower health care costs. Despite what President Obama claims, the bill he is promoting today will make health care even more expensive. The House Democrats’ $1.6 trillion bill drives costs higher than ever, according to the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office, and adds nearly $240 billion more to our deficit. It raises costs for employers through a small business tax that will destroy jobs in Ohio and across the nation.

“Along with Speaker Pelosi’s national energy tax, it’s clear that Democrats are continuing to push policies that threaten job creation – exactly what families in Ohio can’t afford with 11.2 percent unemployment in our state. Ohio’s families and small businesses are asking ‘where are the jobs?’ after the Administration’s trillion-dollar ‘stimulus’ spending bill did not create jobs immediately and hold unemployment below eight percent, as the Administration promised. Ohio families cannot afford for Congress to repeat the same mistake on health care that it made on the ‘stimulus.’

“The Democrats’ government takeover of health care also will diminish quality and reduce access to care. It puts government bureaucrats – not patients and doctors – in charge of personal medical decisions. It leads to the rationing and even denial of care. And it cuts Medicare, taking choices away from millions of seniors, including many in rural parts of our state.

“The Mayo Clinic put it best earlier this week, saying of the Democrats’ bill, ‘the proposed legislation misses the opportunity to help create higher quality, more affordable health care for patients.’ House Republicans have proposed a comprehensive plan to make health care more affordable and accessible for the American people, and we reached out to the President months ago to work on a bipartisan plan. President Obama and Democratic leaders in Congress should scrap their costly plan and start over with a bipartisan approach that reduces costs, increases access, and creates a climate for new jobs.”

Cantor Backs Financial Regulatory Reform Plan
July 23, 2009
Contact:Brad Dayspring

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement supporting the introduction of a comprehensive House Republican regulatory reform plan introduced by Financial Services Ranking Member, Rep. Spencer Bachus:

"We need smart regulation, not necessarily more regulation. The Administration has placed too much emphasis on government and too little on people. Providing even more power to the same regulators who presided over the market breakdown is not intelligent. The culture of bailouts must stop, and instead of adding yet another layer to the current patchwork regulatory system, we need to bring stability and security back to the market so credit starts flowing and jobs are created.

“Today, thanks to the leadership of Ranking Member Bachus and Republicans on the Financial Services Committee, Republicans are united to reduce uncertainty and to stop the government from picking winners and losers in the marketplace. We want to see market forces return under a set of smart, focused rules to restore financial security for families across this country. We stand ready and willing to work together so that our capital markets can return to prominence, small businesses can access credit, and America starts creating jobs again."

The Consumer Protection and Regulatory Enhancement Act will:

• Provide for the resolution of insolvent non-bank financial institutions — no matter how large or systemically important — through the bankruptcy system.

• Create a Market Stability and Capital Adequacy Board that is charged with monitoring the interactions of various sectors of the financial system, and identifying risks that could endanger the stability and soundness of the system.

• Establish an Office of Consumer Protection, with enhanced authority, within a consolidated regulatory agency to streamline in one place responsibility for rulemaking and enforcement of Federal consumer protection laws.

• Restore the Federal Reserve’s monetary policy mandate by relieving it of current regulatory and supervisory responsibilities.

• End taxpayer subsidies of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac

• End Federal regulators’ reliance on use of credit rating agencies.

Washington, DC ( -- In a move that gives pro-life advocates more time to organize, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid said Thursday that the Senate will not vote on a health care restructuring bill until September. Catholic League News Release

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the reaction to President Barack Obama’s recent pick of Francis Collins to head the National Institutes of Health:

Francis Collins is the former director of the National Human Genome Research Institute, and by all accounts he was an excellent administrator. He is also an evangelical.
magazine does not exaggerate when it says that “some are concerned about his outspoken Christian faith.” Among those concerned are Univ. of Chicago outspoken atheist Jerry A. Coyne, outspoken atheist anthropologist Eric Michael Johnson, Harvard psychologist and outspoken atheist Steven Pinker and the Univ. of Minnesota’s outspoken atheist, PZ Myers.

Coyne gives Collins high marks as an administrator, but that’s not enough. “Certainly,
expressions of faith are absolutely fine, but Collins has chosen to make his views public….” In other words, it’s okay by him if Collins limits his religious expression to praying at home—just don’t talk about it in public. Similarly, Johnson says, “I don’t doubt Collins’s skills as a scientist or as an administrator,” but notes nonetheless that his religion “makes some researchers uncomfortable.” Yes, and some researchers are uncomfortable working with atheists.

Pinker is not bothered by Collins being “a devout Christian,” but he does object to his alleged “public advocacy,” offering that he does not want “an atheist-litmus-test for science administrators.” One is immediately reminded of Richard Nixon saying he is not a “crook,” or Bill Clinton saying he never had sex with “that woman.” Fact: When President Bush’s Council on Bioethics had several Catholics on it, Pinker accused the president of seeking to impose “a Catholic agenda on a secular democracy.” In other words, Pinker is no stranger to intolerance. Furthermore, his subjectivism undercuts his scientific credibility.

Myers, of course, is most well known for desecrating a consecrated Host. It would take something miraculous for believers to take him seriously.

So they don’t like Collins’ beliefs. This may not be a blacklist, but we Catholics have some advice for our atheist buddies: be careful of placing yourself in the near occasion of sin.

Cantor: Americans Presented “With A False Choice”
July 23, 2009

“The President said last night that the status quo is unacceptable. We agree. I say that rushing is not smart and not acceptable for families across this country.” – House Republican Whip Eric Cantor

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) delivered the following remarks at a press availability before a hearing of the GOP Healthcare Solutions Group:

“Good Morning. Last night, the President took to the airwaves to try and convince the American people of his idea of healthcare reform. In my opinion, the President really presented the people with a false choice. Because according to what he said last night, there are only two ways, either the status quo or a government healthcare plan. We’re here to say that there really is a third way, that we can work together with our Democratic colleagues to try and forge a solution that really reflects the strengths of our system today while trying to address some of the weaknesses.

“The President said last night that the status quo is unacceptable. We agree. I say that rushing is not smart and not acceptable for families across this country. As Congressmen Blunt and Boehner have said, we are here today to look at the results of a government takeover of healthcare in other countries. We will listen to healthcare professionals and patients as to the impact on their lives of a government run plan. This is an essential part of the discussion of what is going on and being attempted to push through the House, so that we are well educated on the consequences of what we are doing.”

The Messiah To Speak Tonight......

The only question is will you be listening? For anyone who isn't aware, I do not mean Obama; he is not actually a messiah. Obama's glamour show tonight is nothing but a cheap propaganda stunt. Instead of listening to lies I recommend that we spend that time listening to the real Messiah and pray that he protects our Republic and our armed forces.

As I have gotten older it has dawned on me that it is amazing that the most powerful being to ever exist, God himself, has time to listen to us. We are literally a tiny speck in the universe and yet God is always there to listen and comfort us in our times of need. As parents we could really learn a lot from God's example about priorities.

Catholic Prayers

Almighty God,
bless our nation
and make it true
to the ideas of freedom and justice
and brotherhood for all who make it great.

Guard us from war,
from fire and wind,
from compromise, fear, confusion.

Be close to our president and our statesmen;
give them vision and courage,
as they ponder decisions affecting peace
and the future of the world.

Make me more deeply aware of my heritage;
realizing not only my rights
but also my duties
and responsibilities as a citizen.

Make this great land
and all its people
know clearly Your will,
that they may fulfill
the destiny ordained for us
in the salvation of the nations,
and the restoring of all things in Christ.

Obama Weakened US Military And Our Nation's Safety

In Obama's closed and rigid little world he believes the F-22 has no purpose to serve in a world of peace. There in lies his problem; we don't live in a world of peace no matter how rosy you paint the canvas. The only way to keep peace is to put up a strong military front so your enemies (yes we still have them) will back off.

If you gut and dismantle your military in the way Obama and the Liberals have you take away your biggest protection. By killing the production of the F-22 Obama has instantly weakened the US. The importance of these fighters is not about immediate threats, but about the threats that lie behind the next dawn; China and Russia.

What is his agenda? If it is true that he was more concerned about losing this battle effecting his chances at winning the healthcare battle then I would say this decision betrayed America and the safety of her citizens.

While China and Russia are building the strength of their militaries and protecting their economies Obama is using popularity contests and vain thoughts of a second term effect his judgement. He is putting America and you at risk; is that a risk you are willing to take?

Chinese army in action - Operation Red Dragon

Our fighter numbers and strength will now decline while Russia's and China's will increase by 600 aircraft for Russia by 2022 and 626 aircraft for China; add that with Obama's missile defense agenda and you have a mix for disaster. This will put China in the same military league as the U.S; something they have been working at accomplishing. When they reach that goal what do you think will happen next? Nothing good, I promise you that.

Su-34 "Fullback"

When your own president can betray your freedom, liberty, and safety what chance do you have in a world whose predisposition and natural tendency is the use of war, fear, and violence to conquer and control? No matter how pansy and liberal other nations go do we really want to follow in their footsteps and ultimately their fate?

If we had the same stands and president in WWI and II as we have today, would we even be a world power now? What will happen when the next World War happens? Will we be annihilated or be victorious? A lot of questions that I don't like the answers to under Obama. Connect the dots between military strength, military victory, and those nations looking for the destruction of America and the outcome is grim at best.

Cantor Statement on Delay of Administration’s Six-Month Report on Guantanamo Bay Terrorist Prison
July 21, 2009
Contact:Brad Dayspring

WASHINGTON, DC - House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) issued the following statement on the delay of the Administration’s six-month report, as ordered by the President’s executive order to close the Guantanamo Bay terrorist prison by January 2010:

“Closing the terrorist detention facility at Guantanamo Bay is a complex issue, and it is incumbent upon President Obama to outline a careful, clear and smart plan to the American people. The delay of the report makes clear that the Administration still has no answers for the millions of Americans that do not support closing the Guantanamo Bay detention facility and bringing terrorists to America’s shores.

“Just six months remain before the Administration’s arbitrary closure deadline of the Guantanamo Bay facility. Our top priority must be to ensure the safety and security of the American people, and to close Guantanamo without any idea of where to put the world’s most dangerous terrorists is ludicrous.”

Cantor: The Democrats' Health Care Bill Is "At A Crossroads"
July 21, 2009
Contact:Brad Dayspring

"What we’re seeing currently is a bipartisan majority has formed against the current proposal." – House Republican Whip Eric Cantor

House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA)
Remarks At A Press Stakeout
July 21, 2009

Rep. Eric Cantor: “Good Morning. This is it. The time is now. The public will see over the course of the next two weeks whether this House is serious about implementing health care reform.

“What we’re seeing currently is a bipartisan majority has formed against the current proposal. There’s no question, we are at a crossroads as far as health care reform is concerned in this Congress. Either this bill fails, or it will change dramatically. And if the bill fails, it will be because of disagreement among the Democrats as to the proper direction to head as far as health care reform is concerned. The disagreement on the other side of the aisle reflects the growing fear among Americans about the potential for a government takeover of our health care system.

“But we are at a crossroads. This administration and this President have no one else to blame. They have no straw men. They have no press conferences left. What they ought to be doing is coming to work with us to reflect a much more reasoned approach to try and accomplish health care reform for the American people.

“If we’re going to pass health care reform, if this bill were to pass, so many of the questions need to be answered – how is it that we are going to go and take away from patients the ability to keep the health care they have? Because that’s what this bill does. It takes it away. How is it that we’re going to help this economy by crippling small businesses by imposing a tax to pay for this health care reform? How is it that somehow we are restraining health care costs by increasing government expenditure? And how is it, somehow, that we are going to get to a sustainable health care reform by loading up hundreds-of-billions of more debt on our children?

“Those are the questions before us. We stand ready to work with the other side to bring together a bipartisan majority to actually deliver on real, sustainable health care reform.”

Obama Administration Wants To Dump The F-22 So They Can Spend More Money

The Obama administration believes they can spend the money better in other places so they want to kill the F-22. They must be out of their minds; and Congress is if they allow it. Apparently, some powerful Congressional Democrats are standing up against ending production. Tell your representative to keep the F-22.

Are We Getting Saddled With A Lemon When It Comes To Nationalized Healthcare?

Thomas Sowell makes great points, as usual, on why we should not allow Congress to intentionally rush and confuse the issues when it comes to government run healthcare. Government has never been able to do anything well or cost effective when it is mettling where it does not belong. Buyer beware when it comes to socialized medicine; you may be the one being denied life saving treatment because it is not cost effective.

House Republican Leader John Boehner Press Release

Boehner Statement on Delay of Administration’s Six-Month Report on Guantanamo Bay Terrorist Prison

Washington, Jul 21 - House Republican Leader John Boehner (R-OH) issued the following statement on the delay of the Administration’s six-month report, as ordered by the President’s executive order to close the Guantanamo Bay terrorist prison by January 2010:

“For months, Republicans have been asking the President to present his plan for what to do with the dangerous terrorists currently housed at the Guantanamo prison. The delay of this six-month report is further proof that the Administration has no plan, and six months away from the his arbitrary deadline for closing the prison, the American people are right to ask if the Administration will import any of these terrorists into the United States. Despite the fact that a solid majority of the American people and a bipartisan majority here in Congress oppose releasing or bringing these imprisoned terrorists into the United States, the White House has yet to provide the American people an iron-clad guarantee that it will not choose this dangerous course of action. Instead of taking unilateral action that could put our nation at risk, the Administration should listen to these concerns, take them into account, and outline a comprehensive strategy for keeping these terrorists off American soil.

“Two months ago, Republicans introduced the Keep Terrorists Out of America Act to protect Americans from dangerous terrorists being imported into our communities. This legislation includes common sense provisions to require governors and state legislators to pre-approve the transfer of prisoners into their states. In the absence of a plan from the White House, if Democratic leaders are serious about protecting the American people, they will schedule this bill for a vote in the House of Representatives.”

NOTE: On May 7, House Republicans introduced the
Keep Terrorists Out of America Act (H.R. 2294) to: (1) affirm Congress’ opposition to transferring or releasing terrorists held at the Guantanamo Bay prison into the United States; (2) prohibit the Administration from transferring or releasing any terrorist detainees at Guantanamo Bay to any state without express approval from the state’s governor and legislature; and (3) prohibit the President from transferring or releasing a terrorist detainee into the United States unless he provides notification and certification to Congress.

Harry Alford Says Boxer's Behavior Was Racial

Ms. Boxer was put in the hot seat by Harry Alford, President of the Black Chamber of Commerce, when she attempted to teach him a lesson and put him in his place by using the views of the NAACP against him. It backfired! Big time! He called on her race baiting and then went national with his disgust over her inappropriate and condescending behavior. I bet she feels the heels of Carly Fiorina hot on her trail now.

U.S. Senate To Vote On National Right-To-Carry Reciprocity Amendment Early This Week

Monday, July 20, 2009

Contact Your U.S. Senators TODAY And Urge Them To Support Your Right To Self-Defense by voting YES on the Thune-Vitter Amendment!

The U.S. Senate is now considering the National Defense Authorization Act (S. 1390). As a part of the consideration of that legislation, Senators John Thune (R-SD) and David Vitter (R-LA) will offer an amendment this week to provide for interstate recognition of Right-to-Carry permits.
There is a very high likelihood of a Senate floor vote on this important and timely pro-gun reform between now and Wednesday.

Now is the time for Congress to recognize that the right to self-defense does not end at state lines. Under the Thune-Vitter amendment, an individual who has met the requirements for a carry permit, or who is otherwise allowed by his home state's state law to carry a firearm, would be authorized to carry a firearm for protection in any other state that issues such permits, subject to the laws of the state in which the firearm is carried.

Contrary to "states' rights" claims from opponents who usually favor sweeping federal gun control, the amendment is a legitimate exercise of Congress's constitutional power to protect the fundamental rights of citizens (including the right to keep and bear arms and the right of personal mobility). States would still have the authority to regulate the time, place and manner in which handguns are carried.

Expanding Right-to-Carry will enhance public safety, and certainly poses no threat to the public. Criminals are deterred from attempting crimes when they know or suspect that their prospective victims are armed. A study for the Department of Justice found that 40 percent of felons had not committed crimes because they feared the prospective victims were armed. The Thune-Vitter amendment recognizes that competent, responsible, law-abiding Americans still deserve our trust and confidence when they cross state lines. Passing interstate Right-to-Carry legislation will help further reduce crime by deterring criminals, and -- most important of all -- will protect the right of honest Americans to protect themselves if deterrence fails.

The Thune-Vitter Amendment represents a giant step forward in the protection of the basic right to self-defense. Its passage will recognize that the rights of law-abiding Right-to-Carry permit holders should be respected, even when they travel outside their home state.

Gun control groups, including New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg's "Mayors Against Illegal Guns" are running ads trying to scare your lawmakers and the American people into opposing this crucial Right-to-Carry reform. It is critical that your U.S. Senators hear from you immediately.

Please be sure to contact both of your U.S. Senators today, and urge them to cosponsor and support the Thune-Vitter interstate right to carry reciprocity amendment. E-mail and call them immediately!

Governor Offers Support to Family of Captive Soldier

July 19, 2009, Anchorage, Alaska - Governor Sarah Palin offered her support and encouragement to the family of a Ft. Richardson soldier captured in Afghanistan.

“Todd and I are praying for Private First Class Bowe Bergdahl, his family, and all of his fellow soldiers who are putting their lives on the line to defend our freedom and protect democracy abroad,” Governor Palin said. “The capture of Private Bergdahl and the bombings in Jakarta prove that we have not defeated terrorism, and that radical extremists will stop at nothing to attack Westerners and our ideals.”

More than 7,000 soldiers and airmen stationed in Alaska are currently deployed overseas.

“Our men and women who volunteer to wear the uniform have the best training and experience of any military in the world,” said Lt. Gen. (AK) Craig E. Campbell, Adjutant General of the Alaska National Guard. “We know that when we deploy that anything can happen, and we pray that PFC Bergdahl’s fellow soldiers can find him quickly and reunite him with his family.”

Rasmussen: Obama 48%, Palin 42%; Obama And Romeny Tied at 45%

This poll of potential 2012 match-ups is great news for Palin if she decides to run for president. At this early stage these numbers are more reflective of Obama, than of Romney or Palin. Palin has only the ability to go up in the poll.

Every hateful, sexist comment they could throw at her has already been hurled and they failed to destroy her. She can now make her case to the American people directly.

Romney's socialize medicine that he signed into law in Massachusetts has been a complete failure. It will be brought up in the Republican Primary and will hurt him with the voters. I want to make a distinction between Romney and Obama's healthcare plans; Obama's plan is unconstitutional where Romney's is how it should be done, with the states deciding. I just think they were wrong. More freedom, less government is always the best choice.

Romney has already run a Presidential campaign; everyone knows where he stands on the issues. Palin as a VP nominee had to parrot McCain's stands. The American people have not seen her conservative vision for America yet. This is where she can win over those who wrongly believe the caricatures of her.

As for the fake messiah, his numbers are only going to continue to decline as his extremist, socialist policies cripple our Republic.

Chairman Price Admonishes the Democrats’ Government Takeover of Health Care

Click to Watch:

RSC Media Activity
Every week, Republican Study Committee members work hard to ensure that the conservative viewpoint is well-represented in all corners of the media.

· Rep. Ed Royce (CA-40): Public Option Will Kill Off Competition; Investor’s Business Daily, July 13.

· Rep. Michele Bachmann (MN-06): Block Funds to Groups Under Indictment; The Washington Times, July 16.

· Rep. Buck McKeon (CA-25): A Government Takeover of Healthcare Is a Mistake;, July 16.

· Rep. Darrell Issa (CA-49): A Tortuous Case of He Said, She Said; Roll Call, July 16.

· Rep. Joe Pitts (PA-16): Hidden Within ObamaCare, An Abortion Mandate; Roll Call Blog, July 17.

RSC Legislative Activity
RSC members have made it a priority to introduce productive, conservative alternatives to the Democrats’ reckless agenda.

· Former RSC Chairman Rep. John Shadegg (AZ-03) along with fellow RSC members Rep. Rob Bishop (UT-01), Rep. Marsha Blackburn (TN-07), Rep. Michael C. Burgess, M.D. (TX-26), Rep. John Fleming, M.D. (LA-04), Rep. Trent Franks (AZ-02), Rep. Phil Gingrey, M.D. (GA-11) and Rep. Pete Hoekstra (MI-02) introduced H.R. 3218, the Improving Health Care for All Americans Act, which will reform America’s health care system by making health care services more personal and more affordable, while ensuring that all Americans have access to the care they need.

· Rep. Jason Chaffetz (UT-03) introduced H.R. 3167, a bill that would allow the Census Bureau to partner with the U.S. Postal Service rather than controversial and questionable groups like ACORN.

· Rep. Tom Rooney (FL-16) has introduced H.R. 3214, the Rating Accountability and Transparency Enhancement (RATE) Act of 2009 to help improve the accountability and accuracy of credit ratings.

Here is a preview of upcoming Democrat proposals to advance their big-government, anti-taxpayer agenda.

· Democrats intend to move forward on a bill that would enact a “pay-as-you-go” policy, or PAYGO, into law. It sounds good on the surface, but their proposal is absolutely riddled with loopholes and exemptions. The House is already supposed to operate under PAYGO rules, yet this year’s deficit is somehow still projected to exceed $1.8 trillion.

· Proving that Congress is not immune to irony, the Democrats will continue to authorize huge spending increases during the same week they tout their sham PAYGO proposal. The appropriations bills on the schedule for this week are the Housing and Urban Development Appropriations bill (a 25.2% increase over last year) and the Labor, Health and Human Services Appropriations bill (a 7.3% increase over last year).

· The House Energy and Commerce Committee continues its markup this week of H.R. 3200, the House Democrats’ proposal for a government takeover of health care. Last week, the Director of the Congressional Budget Office declared that none of the proposals put forth by the Democrats will actually save money.

House Floor Activity
The following key legislation came through the House of Representatives last week.

· The House passed two appropriations bills last week, H.R. 3183 and H.R. 3170. True to form, the Democrats continued to disenfranchise every Member of the House and trivialize the process of spending taxpayer dollars by tightly restricting the amendment process while authorizing large spending increases.

· When they brought H.R. 1018 to the floor, House Democrats allowed themselves to be dragged away from the big issues of the day by wild horses.

Catholic League News Release

White House budget director Peter Orszag was asked yesterday whether “no taxpayer money will go to pay for abortions” under proposed health care legislation. “I’m not prepared to say explicitly that right now,” he said.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue picked up on that remark:

There was no reason for Orszag to sound tentative—everyone who has been following this issue knows that President Barack Obama has been very explicit about his support for abortion, as well as his desire to make the public foot the bill. Yes, he says he wants “common ground,” but there is absolutely no evidence of his budging on this issue when it gets to the policy stage. And that is the only stage that matters in the end.

Secretary of Health and Human Services Kathleen Sebelius, another champion of abortion-on-demand through term, commented yesterday about health care reform saying, “There are basically five different plans in Congress right now and there are a variety of ways.” Is there even one plan that explicitly says abortion will not be subsidized? We know that the Democrats, following the party line adopted by the White House, have killed every amendment that would bar public funding of abortion. So who is kidding whom?

If the Bush administration had said that it wants to seek “common ground” on gun control, and then decided to subsidize handguns in high crime areas, it would have been condemned from high heaven. The Obama administration’s game of playing footsy with the abortion industry should similarly be condemned. Indeed, it represents the audacity of duplicity to dialogue about abortion and then send the public an invoice for killing kids in utero.

Congress Controlling Almost Everything As Commerce?

Is Congress pulling the wool over your eyes to gain almost unlimited power over your lives? Are they twisting the Founders’ intentions and words to enslave you to your federal government instead of becoming the public servants they were meant to be?

By claiming that Commerce meant more than it did by the Founders Congress has been stealing powers it was never meant to have. The Supreme Court is supposed the be a check-and-balance to this life sucking power grab by the Congress, however the Supreme Court seems to be having a power identity crisis of its own.

The Constitution places the responsibility to recall the federal government to its constitutional limits.

Founding Fathers Quote

In the next place, the state governments are, by the very theory of the constitution, essential constituent parts of the general government. They can exist without the latter, but the latter cannot exist without them.

Obama orders Israel to halt Jerusalem hotel project

The Obama Administration has ordered Israel to halt construction of a new Jewish-owned hotel on the eastern side of Jerusalem, Israel's major radio stations reported on Sunday morning.

According to the reports, Israeli Ambassador to the US Michael Oren was summoned to the State Department on Friday, where he was told that the president wants Israel to halt construction of the Shepherd Hotel being built next to the Israel Police headquarters on the eastern side of main road that runs north from Jerusalem's Old City. Two other Israeli luxury hotels already stand near the site.

The direct American pressure came following complaints by Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas that the hotel was being built on land claimed by his own regime as part of its future capital.

Israeli officials responded by telling radio interviewers that the land is privately owned, and that the Israeli government is not about to start interfering in private business affairs as a result of diplomatic pressure. Nor will Israel give up its right to build wherever its sees fit in Jerusalem.

"Israel has built in Jerusalem and will continue to build in Jerusalem," said one official.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu personally weighted in on the matter at Sunday's cabinet meeting, insisting that under his government, Israel will never comply with demands that Jews stop buying land and building wherever they please in Jerusalem.

He explained that all of Israel's citizens are free to buy and build where they choose, and that if Israel put the kind of restrictions on Arabs buying land and building homes that Washington is trying to put on Jews, there would be outrage in the international community.

Catholic League News Release

In today’s
New York Times, there is a lengthy article about the death of Irish author, Frank McCourt. As a sidebar, there is also a short excerpt from his book, Angela’s Ashes
, about the author’s First Communion. Part of what the Times selected reads as follows:

“Then he [the priest] placed on my tongue the wafer, the body and blood of Jesus. At last, at last. It’s on my tongue. I draw it back. It stuck. I had God glued to the roof of my mouth. I could hear the master’s voice, Don’t let that host touch your teeth for if you bite God in two you’ll roast in hell for eternity. I tried to get God down with my tongue but the priest hissed at me, Stop that clucking and get back to your seat. God was good. He melted and I swallowed Him and now, at last, I was a member of the True Church, an official sinner.”

Catholic League president Bill Donohue wasn’t amused:

During his lifetime, Frank McCourt made any number of insulting remarks about Catholicism, all to the applause of his sophomoric fans. That the
New York Times selected this chestnut about Holy Communion reveals what some might say is the newspaper’s dark side. This conclusion, however, would be unwarranted: the Times has no other side when addressing matters Catholic.

Rep. Sam Rohrer: 10th Amendment Clearly Defines State Powers

A Glimmer Of Hope

As our Republic is devoured from inside a rebellion is forming. Moderate Democrats are standing up to the self destructive policies of Obama, Pelosi, and Reid. This is our chance to go on the offensive. We must not squander this opportunity for there have been far too few. We must inundate our representatives with emails and calls.

For years politicians like Obama, Pelosi, and Reid have dreamed of a day that they could humble and bring to its knees our God given Republic. They dream of a weak Democracy that has replaced our Republic which has god given rights, with majority rule and the freedom to commit any atrocity without moral consequence.

It is time they heard from the people, the line must be drawn here and no further. We must protect our Republic. It has taken hundreds of years to get where we are; it will take just as long to restore what we have lost. We must measure our progress by small battles and not expect a swift victory. God bless our Republic for now and forever.

Founding Fathers Quote

No people will tamely surrender their Liberties, nor can any be easily subdued, when knowledge is diffused and Virtue is preserved. On the Contrary, when People are universally ignorant, and debauched in their Manners, they will sink under their own weight without the Aid of foreign Invaders.
