Catholic Prayers

Lord Jesus, Almighty and All-knowing God,
recent events have advanced against the dignity of life.
Arrogant in his ways, the leader of this nation,
believes that he can decide on the matter of life and death.
Years ago, King Herod showed no respect for human life,
ordering the murder of all the children under age two,
they being snatched from their mother's arms mercilessly.
Nowadays, the United States President, lacking in morals,
supports the murder of the unborn in different ways.
Look down upon these little souls,
they being torn out of the womb of their mothers,
by medical tools that were invented to save lives.
Lord God, we beseech You on behalf of the unborn
to transform the heart of President Barack Obama,
that he may come to a moral understanding of what he is doing.
May he consequently condemn and stop, here and abroad,
all support and funding towards all forms of abortion,

Mary Immaculate, Mother of the Child Jesus,
turn your eyes towards the unborn innocent,
who cry to the Heavenly Throne for justice.
Beg your Son, the Lord Jesus,
to end the heartless killing of millions.

The Catholic Church teaches that abortion is murder. Therefore, he who supports abortion
is a murdered.

C.C.C. 2270 "Human life must be respected and protected absolutely from the moment of conception.
From the first moment of his existence, a human being must be recognized as having the rights of
a person - among which is the inviolable right of every innocent being to life. [Cf. CDF, Donum
vitae I, 1] [1703, 357]"

Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, and before you were born I consecrated you.
[Jer 1:5; cf. Job 10:8-12; Ps 22:10-11]

My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately wrought
in the depths of the earth. [Ps 139:15]

C.C.C. 2271 "Since the first century the Church has affirmed the moral evil of every procured
abortion. This teaching has not changed and remains unchangeable. Direct abortion, that is to
say, abortion willed either as an end or a means, is gravely contrary to the moral law:"

You shall not kill the embryo by abortion and shall not cause the newborn to perish.
[Didache 2, 2: SCh 248, 148; cf. Ep. Barnabae 19, 5: PG 2, 777; Ad Diognetum 5, 6: PG 2,

God's Blessings

There is nothing more precious on this Earth than the gift of children. There is nothing in life that makes our lives more meaningful than nurturing the next and future generations who will take our places. Not even the richest man to ever exist can ever know the prosperity and accomplishment one receives from successfully navigating parenthood.

The truly richest people through out history are those God has blessed with children. The truly poorest are those who destroy and reject that gift. I pray that God grants the prayers of every man and woman whose heart longs to be a parent. I pray that God rids this world of the evil of abortion. I pray that God gives every child a loving home and a childhood to cherish.

Children Exploited For The Praise And Adoration Of Obama: UPDATED

By now, I am sure you have seen or heard of this disturbing video. If you haven't, watch it; especially if you have kids. Here is the part that I find the most disturbing "He said red, yellow, black or white All are equal in his sight Mmm, mmm, mm! Barack Hussein Obama".

Michelle Malkin has been all over this story doing her usual great job. I find this indoctrination and worship of Obama very alarming. He is not a God. He is a sadistic, self-absorbed radical who is on course to be the worst president in American history. This is not North Korea, we don't bow down and worship presidents; there is only one true god and it ain't Obama.

Why is it that so many in this Republic worship the presidents who violate the Constitution the most; like Theodore Roosevelt, FDR, Woodrow Wilson, Lincoln, and Obama. You cannot violate the Constitution and still claim legitimacy to the office you hold. It goes against everything this Republic was founded on to worship an individual or group of individuals. Leave the children alone. We must vote Obama and the radical Left at every election or we risk even more of this indoctrination.

Fox News has a very extensive report on the fall out over the indoctrination video. Click here. The good news is that parents are upset and there will be an investigation. It needs to be made very clear that we will not sit by and allow our children to be indoctrinated by the far Left. These children lost valuable education time for the benefit of one political party.

Obama Attacks The United States And Israel While Praising Himself At The UN

Today was truly a depressing day. I watched as Obama addressed the UN and slandered his own country. The arrogance that was on display was shocking and a disgrace to the office he holds. When he was finished attacking his own country he went after Israel. I want all Israelis to know he does not speak for me, nor for a lot of Americans. Rev. Paul has posted an excellent defense of Israel. This May Cost Me Some Readers, but...

I highly recommend you read it. The Bible is very clear that Israel is God's people and that we should pray for their protection. This is one of my favorite Bible verses:

Isaiah 62:1 For Zion's sake I will not be silent, for Jerusalem's sake I will not be quiet, Until her vindication shines forth like the dawn and her victory like a burning torch.

Apparently, Ambassador Bolton a man I respect also was not impressed by Obama's speech.

Most Anti-Israeli Speech By Any US President Ever! John Bolton

I fear that this nation is now being led by a radical and ungodly group that despises our Republic and our allies while coveting a relationship with socialists and tyrants. It was ignorance that allowed them to be elected. It is education and involvement that will lead to their electoral defeat. Until election day we must stay motivated and active. Our Republic has survived arrogant, self absorbed leaders before; it will again.

God bless America and Israel.

Catholic League News Release

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on the appointment of Kevin Jennings to be President Obama’s Safe School Czar:

Kevin Jennings, the man selected to be the Director of the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools, has a history of promoting homosexual conferences wherein unsafe sex practices are sold to underage kids. He is also a former drug user. As a counselor, he failed to notify the authorities of a sexual encounter between an adult gay man and a high school kid. And, not to be outdone, he has a history of bashing Christians.

Jennings, raised a Baptist by his minister father and non-believing, anti-Catholic mother, is known for lecturing the Catholic Church about its teachings on sexuality. He has also railed against the “hard core bigots” whom he says make up the “religious right.”

Jennings’ hatred of religion began at the age of 17, right after he masturbated at the thought of watching two “hot guys” take off their shirts in his home. We know this because this is exactly what he wrote in his book,
Mama’s Boy, Preacher’s Son: A Memoir

Following his masturbatory experience, Jennings revealed what happened next: “I developed a new attitude toward God as a result. Before, I was the one who was failing God; now I decided He was the one who had failed me.” Continuing, he wrote, “I decided I had done nothing wrong:
He had, by promising to ‘set you free’ and never delivering on His promise. What had
He done for me, other than make me feel shame and guilt? Squat. Screw you, buddy—I don’t need you around anymore, I decided.” [His italics.] He ends by saying that for many years he “reacted violently to anyone who professed any kind of religion.”

It just doesn’t get much more perverse than this. If this doesn’t prove the thesis of my new book,
Secular Sabotage: How Liberals Are Destroying Religion and Culture in America
, nothing does.

Sarah Palin: Thoughts from Hong Kong

Many have asked to see my remarks as presented in Hong Kong. Here is an excerpt:

So far, I’ve given you the view from Main Street, USA. But now I’d like to share with you how a Common Sense Conservative sees the world at large.

Later this year, we will celebrate the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall – an event that changed not just Europe but the entire world. In a matter of months, millions of people in formerly captive nations were freed to pursue their individual and national ambitions.

The competition that defined the post World War II era was suddenly over. What was once called “the free world” had so much to celebrate – the peaceful end to a great power rivalry and the liberation of so many from tyranny’s grip.

Some, you could say, took the celebration too far. Many spoke of a “peace dividend,” of the need to focus on domestic issues and spend less time, attention and money on endeavors overseas. Many saw a peaceful future, where globalization would break down borders and lead to greater global prosperity. Some argued that state sovereignty would fade – like that was a good thing? – that new non-governmental actors and old international institutions would become dominant in the new world order.

As we all know, that did not happen. Unfortunately, there was no shortage of warning signs that the end of the Cold War did not mean the end of history or the end of conflict. In Europe, the breakup of Yugoslavia resulted in brutal wars in the Balkans. In the Middle East, a war was waged to reverse Saddam Hussein’s invasion of Kuwait. North Korea’s nuclear program nearly led to military conflict. In Africa, U.S. embassies were bombed by a group called al Qaeda.

Two weeks ago, America commemorated the 8th anniversary of the savagery of September 11, 2001. The vicious terrorist attacks of that day made clear that what happened in lands far distant from American shores directly affect our security. We came to learn, if we did not know before, that there were violent fanatics who sought not just to kill innocents, but to end our way of life. Their attacks have not been limited to the United States.

They attacked targets in Europe, North Africa and throughout the Middle East. Here in Asia, they killed more than 200 in a single attack in Bali. They bombed the Marriott Hotel and the Australian Embassy in Jakarta. Last year in Mumbai, more than 170 were killed in coordinated attacks in the heart of India’s financial capital. In this struggle with radical Islamic extremists, no part of the world is safe from those who bomb, maim and kill in the service of their twisted vision.

This war – and that is what it is, a war – is not, as some have said, a clash of civilizations. We are not at war with Islam. This is a war within Islam, where a small minority of violent killers seeks to impose their view on the vast majority of Muslims who want the same things all of us want: economic opportunity, education, and the chance to build a better life for themselves and their families. The reality is that al Qaeda and its affiliates have killed scores of innocent Muslim men, women and children.

The reality is that Muslims from Algeria, Indonesia, Iraq, Afghanistan and many other countries are fighting al Qaeda and their allies today. But this will be a long war, and it will require far more than just military power to prevail. Just as we did in the Cold War, we will need to use all the tools at our disposal – hard and soft power. Economic development, public diplomacy, educational exchanges, and foreign assistance will be just as important as the instruments of military power.

During the election campaign in the U.S. last year, you might have noticed we had some differences over Iraq. John McCain and I believed in the strength of the surge strategy – because of its success, Iraq is no longer the central front in the war on terrorism. Afghanistan is. Afghanistan is where the 9/11 attacks were planned and if we are not successful in Afghanistan, al Qaeda will once again find safe haven there. As a candidate and in office, President Obama called Afghanistan the “necessary war” and pledged to provide the resources needed to prevail. However, prominent voices in the Democratic Party are opposing the additional U.S. ground forces that are clearly needed.

Speaker of the House Pelosi, Defense Subcommittee Chairman Murtha, the Senate Armed Services Committee Chair, and many others, recently expressed doubts about sending additional forces! President Obama will face a decision soon when the U.S. Commander in Afghanistan requests additional forces to implement his new counterinsurgency strategy.

We can win in Afghanistan by helping the Afghans build a stable representative state able to defend itself. And we must do what it takes to prevail. The stakes are very high. Last year, in the midst of the U.S. debate over what do to in Iraq, an important voice was heard – from Asia’s Wise Man, former Singaporean Prime Minister, Lee Kuan Yew, who wrote in the Washington Post about the cost of retreat in Iraq. In that article, he prophetically addressed the stakes in Afghanistan. He wrote:

“The Taliban is again gathering strength, and a Taliban victory in Afghanistan or Pakistan would reverberate throughout the Muslim world. It would influence the grand debate among Muslims on the future of Islam. A severely retrograde form of Islam would be seen to have defeated modernity twice: first the Soviet Union, then the United States. There would be profound consequences, especially in the campaign against terrorism.”

Cantor Lauds IRS Action to End Association With ACORN
September 23, 2009Contact:Brad Dayspring

Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) today issued the following statement after the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) announced it would terminate ACORN’s participation in the agency’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program:

“ACORN has violated serious federal laws, and it is a victory for all taxpayers that the IRS has ended its association with this corrupt organization.

"I hope that President Obama joins our effort to ensure that the government ends all of its associations with the embattled organization, that not a single taxpayer dollar ends up in its coffers, and that the FBI thoroughly investigates the depth of the abhorrent and illegal activities of ACORN."

NOTE: Last week, House Republican Leader Boehner and Republican Whip Cantor sent
a letter to the IRS asking that it sever all ties with ACORN. In addition, House Republicans sent a letter to President Obama requesting that he use his authority to end all funding to and break all ties with ACORN.

ICYMI: Cantor Talks Health Care, Foreign Policy on AM Radio
September 23, 2009
Contact:Brad Dayspring

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) today appeared on Bill Bennett's "Morning in America" radio program, for a discussion on foreign policy, health care, and other issues.

Highlights below:

On Health Care:

“The Baucus bill has been met with over 500 amendments, and people around Washington are asking, ‘who’s for the Baucus Bill other then Senator Baucus?’ …We hear a lot of discussion about co-ops, or triggers, or things like that. We have go to be careful of the design of any bill. A government option is a government plan. A government trigger is a government plan. A government co-op will lead to a government plan.”

“...As we have seen with the public opinion polls, the American people reject Obamacare. They feel, and I think rightly so, that it will open a door to government take over of their health care.”

“No question when you tell individual and employers that you are going to have to pay if you don’t provide health insurance - what do you call that? It’s a penalty, it’s a tax.”

“Speaker Pelosi has already said that anything that comes out of the House will have a public option in it. I don’t think there is any Republican support for a public option in the House. I feel that people understand intuitively that if you put the government in charge of making the rules – and then say the government is going to compete under those rules – that’s a formula designed to force people in a single payer government system.”

On Afghanistan & Foreign Policy:

“Well the chips are down no question. Afghanistan and Central Asia are critical right now. I would go so far to say Central Asia is the Persian Gulf of the 21 Century and we have got to get it right. If we don’t exercise the judgment necessary to see the mission though, we risk chaos in the region. It is so important that we reject the politics and support the mission to ensure that that region does not become a launching pad for terrorist organizations to inflict damage on the U.S., our allies and our interests.”

“Clearly, I support the President’s initial wish, which was to give the troops and the commanders on the ground what they need to secure our interest in the region and globally and that’s not easy… Unfortunately, as you know the political left in this country do not want to hear such things."

“I think there is a sense right now that one cannot define the foreign policy of the Obama White House. What is the foreign policy of the Obama White House when it comes to Central Asia? What is the foreign policy when dealing with Russia? What it comes to dealing with Iran? Some would say its, ‘talk to anybody at anytime for any reason.’ It just doesn’t make sense."

On the Big Picture:

“I think the White House has to think long and hard right now about what they have to show for their first 9 months in office. The only thing that has come out is that spending bill that they call the ‘stimulus’ – a nearly 800 billion dollar program that has not resulted in producing the jobs that was the goal when it passed.”

Founding Fathers Quote

If men of wisdom and knowledge, of moderation and temperance, of patience, fortitude and perseverance, of sobriety and true republican simplicity of manners, of zeal for the honour of the Supreme Being and the welfare of the commonwealth; if men possessed of these other excellent qualities are chosen to fill the seats of government, we may expect that our affairs will rest on a solid and permanent foundation.

Ron Paul: Trade Wars and Protectionism are not Free Trade

Two weeks ago, both the administration and the Fed announced with straight faces that the recession was over and the signs of economic recovery were clear. Then last week, the president made a stunning decision that signals the administration’s determination to repeat the mistakes of the Great Depression. Much like the Smoot-Hawley Tariffs that set off a global trade war and effectively doomed us to ten more years of economic misery, Obama’s decision to enact steep tariffs on Chinese imported tires could spark a trade war with the single most important trading partner we have. Not only does China manufacture a whole host of products that end up on American store shelves, they are also still buying our Treasury debt. [read more]

Bill Donohue
Catholic League for Religious and Civil Rights

To say the Obama administration is enamored of the European model would be an understatement—it positively adores it. That’s why the “Change You Can Believe In” crowd is in full gear trying to mimic their economic system, the most visible example of which is its health care program. If only the European model were worth emulating. Sadly, the record is not encouraging.

Every time there is a worldwide economic downturn, the Europeans lag the Americans in recovery. Quite simply, the more market-oriented the economy, the quicker the recovery; European-style socialism trails the U.S. is rebounding precisely because government is anything but nimble. So why the attraction?

What drives the Obama administration to mimic the European model is not its record of achievements; rather, it is the belief that private institutions are not to be trusted. From its opposition to school vouchers to its embrace of a public plan for its health care program, the administration prefers the public sector to the private sector, hands down. It does so in large part because it lusts to take command, whether it be in the form of social, sexual or economic engineering.

Father Knows Best has given way to Government Knows Best. And by creating economic public policies that make men and women more and more dependent on government, the engineers control their destiny, as well as their vote. It does so, unfortunately, at the expense of self-reliance and self-government. As Dennis Prager wisely observes, “the bigger the government, the smaller the citizen.” Regrettably, government now dwarfs the individual, the result of which is a diminution in our ability to hold the state at bay.

Statist policies naturally incline toward expansion. Make no mistake about it, the encroachment of the state on civil society is real, the result of which is the creation of a precarious situation for all private institutions. That would include, certainly, religious entities. European observers of all political leanings are quick to point out how genuinely secular those societies have become. The pace of this deracination has quickened, the effect of which has been a movement away from religious indifference toward genuine hostility. Atheism hasn’t been so fashionable since the Enlightenment.

Every statist regime in history has been anti-religious. The church, of course, is rightly seen as a bulwark to the reach of the state. This explains the animus: secularists of this hyper-politicized sort cannot settle for neutrality—they are out to sunder religious traditions and institutions. There is plenty of evidence to suggest that these secular saboteurs are busy flexing their muscles in the U.S., as well as in Europe.

I wrote Secular Sabotage: How Liberals Are Destroying Religion and Culture in America as a wake-up call. The open assault on our Judeo-Christian ethos has been operative for decades, but never before have we approached a tipping point: we have now reached that stage. The stakes are high as our cultural future hangs in the balance.

From the politically correct programs that mark multiculturalism—a love fest for every civilization save our own—to the sexual libertines who see in Christian sexual ethics a roadblock to genital liberation, we are up against it. Scatological art exhibits are bad enough, but when paired with expressions of Christian bashing, they cross the line many times over. It’s been a long time, of course, since Hollywood found itself capable of portraying Christianity in a positive light, and the fury unleashed against Mel Gibson for making “The Passion of the Christ” underscores the politics involved.

Secular saboteurs show a particular fondness for using the law as a club to stamp out Christianity, torturing out of all recognition the original intent of the Framers; the First Amendment provisions regarding religious liberty have been hit the hardest. Secular elements within the Democratic Party have become bolder and bolder in their disdain for people of faith, driving Catholics out of the party in droves. Perhaps most distressing, the radical secular agenda has penetrated Catholicism, as well as the mainline Protestant denominations, disfiguring them in ways not previously thought imaginable.

In short, Christian bashing is in vogue. That this is happening in a nation which is approximately 80 percent Christian shows the power of a loosely organized, but totally determined, secular minority, and a collapse of will on the part of a sizeable segment of the Christian population. Only a coalition of religious conservatives, across faith lines, can reverse course. Fortunately, as evidenced by the coalition that rallied around Proposition 8 in California, there is reason for optimism.

Dodd’s proposal to establish a ‘council of regulators’ just more of the same

CONTACT: Andrew Schiff
September 21, 2009
(646) 498-1177

WESTON, CT – Connecticut Senate candidate and well-known economist Peter Schiff released the following statement today regarding Sen. Christopher Dodd’s proposal to create a federal “super regulator” to oversee banks:

“While it’s refreshing to see Chris Dodd finally realize that we need to end the politicization of the Federal Reserve, his latest proposal merely repeats the mistakes that have created this crisis. Transferring regulatory authority from one unaccountable agency to another will not solve any problems.

“Existing regulators had all the powers they needed, and more, and they failed miserably to foresee and prevent this crisis. Chris Dodd is now asking us to put all our eggs in one basket and trust a “super regulatory agency.” He should know better than to centralize power in the hands of Washington bureaucrats – it’s precisely the arrangement that caused our current problems. I think most Connecticut voters know that we need fewer czars in Washington, not more. As long as Fannie and Freddie and Congress are meddling with the economy, changing the structure of the regulators is basically rearranging deck chairs on the Titanic.

“Dodd’s proposal takes regulatory authority away from one unaccountable institution and gives it to another even bigger one. This will not solve our problems.

“What I want to do is bring transparency to the Fed and make sure they pursue just one goal: price stability. Too many people in Connecticut are struggling right now, and the last thing we need is meddling politicians making things worse. Only by cutting deficit spending, reducing burdensome regulations, and letting people keep more of their hard-earned dollars will we get our economy back on track.”

SchiffReport: G20 Hypocrisy

Do You Feel Free In Our Republic Anymore?

I have often thought I was born in the wrong century. Now I know, God has a plan for all of us, but I would have loved to have been able to explore or actually have the freedom to fail or to make it on my own. No, nowadays it seems like everything is dictated to us.

Everything has a warning, and a dummy guide; after all we cannot be expected to be smart enough not to drink cleaning fluid or stick our hand in an open flame. The nanny state seems to be every where. We are mostly told what we can't do; we can't go to the moon, we definitely can't add onto the house without a building permit, though considering our current economic crisis I doubt anyone is adding on.

When I read through what our founding fathers' dreams were for our Republic we are no where even close. Big brother is always breathing down our backs. So I will ask the question; do you feel free? For me the answer is no. I am definitely not alone in that feeling. Americans are standing up and getting involved all across our Republic and though DC is still clueless we are already seeing a change in direction.

Israeli commandoes rescue American woman from Muslim husband

A team of former Israeli army commandoes secretly entered a Palestinian Arab village in Samaria last week and rescued an American woman who had been held captive there for three years by her abusive Muslim husband.

Voice of Israel radio reported that the woman met and married the Arab man in the US years ago. She was eventually convinced to return with him to Israel, but after arriving was taken to Palestinian-controlled areas and forced to live as the man's second wife, subservient to him and his first wife.

She later said that her husband threatened to never let her see the son they had together if she tried to escape. He also said that Palestinian Authority security forces would arrest her if she left him.

The woman's family tried in vain for years to get the US Consulate in Jerusalem and the Palestinian Authority to help locate and rescue her, before finally turning to a friend who was a former Israeli soldier. That friend contacted another friend who was also a former commando, and who quickly put together an extraction team.

Using their own intelligence contacts, the team located the woman and her child, entered the village and brought them back into Israeli-controlled areas before anyone knew what had happened. By Wednesday, the two were on a flight back to the US and to their family.

Update from the House Republican Study Committee (RSC)

RSC Update: Monday, September 21, 2009

From the Chairman
The health care debate continues in Washington, as the Senate Finance Committee led by Sen. Max Baucus finally published its long-awaited plan last week. The Baucus bill may not include the explicit government-run “public option” favored by many liberals (although its co-ops would lead to the same thing), but it still cannot be described as anything but a government takeover of health care.

While much attention has been given to the so-called "pubic option," there are countless other facets of the plans promoted by the President and congressional Democrats in charge that would empower Washington with control over our health care system. These include new federal definitions of what health policies must look like, bureaucratic efficiency councils that define quality care, and mandates that will tax away the viability of employers and individuals.

When Washington tells patients what kind of health coverage plan they must have, what kind of treatments are permissible, and how private insurers must operate their businesses, patients will be left to the mercy of the government rather than rightfully be able to make independent medical decisions with their families and their doctor.

But don’t believe the President’s rhetoric that there is only his way or the status quo. It’s vital that you let your friends and neighbors know that Republicans have solutions that put patients in control. In addition to H.R. 3400, RSC Members have introduced numerous proposals for patient-centered health care reform. You can read more about some of them here.

Thanks for your support!

Congressman Tom Price
Chairman, Republican Study Committee

RSC Media Activity
Every week, Republican Study Committee members work hard to ensure that the conservative viewpoint is well-represented in all corners of the media.

· Rep. Ed Royce (CA-40): D.C. Spending is Hammering the Dollar; The Hill, September 14.

· Rep. Phil Roe (TN-01): Too Much Government Control?; Weekly Column, September 16.

· Rep. Patrick McHenry (NC-06): How ACORN Got Dumped by the Census;, September 17.

RSC Legislative Activity
RSC members have made it a priority to introduce productive, conservative alternatives to the Democrats’ reckless agenda.

· Rep. Jeff Flake (AZ-06) sent a letter to President Obama urging him to reconsider his decision to impose a 35% tariff on tire imports from China.

· Rep. Steve Scalise (LA-01) introduced H.R. 3569 the Sunset All Czars Act to bring a halt to the burgeoning practice within the White House of bypassing Congressional oversight by appointing unaccountable advisors to policy-making positions.

· Rep. Paul Broun (GA-10) authored a resolution on the importance of property rights as enshrined in the Constitution. The resolution was introduced on Sept. 17, 2009, the 222nd Anniversary of the signing of the U.S. Constitution.

Here is a preview of upcoming Democrat proposals to advance their big-government, anti-taxpayer agenda.

· This week, the House will once again consider H.R. 324, which would establish a new National Heritage Area in Arizona. The bill failed to garner 2/3 of the vote as required for bills brought up under suspension of the rules after the RSC raised concerns about energy development, drug trafficking, and funding questions.

· Although the House has passed each of the twelve FY 2010 appropriation bills (often with large domestic spending increases), only five have passed the Senate and none have been sent to the President. Sometime before the current fiscal year ends on September 30, Congress will likely consider a resolution to extend current funding levels for an additional month or more.

· The RSC recently assembled the following policy briefs in light of the Democrats’ plans to move forward with a national energy tax and their misguided approach to financial regulation.

House Floor Activity
The following key legislation came through the House of Representatives last week.

· The House passed H.R. 3221. This legislation constitutes a massive, permanent government takeover of the student loan industry that could increase the deficit by $50 billion over the next decade.

· However, an overwhelming majority of the House voted in favor of a Republican addition H.R. 3221 that would prohibit any further federal assistance to ACORN, a corrupt organization that has received at least $53 million in taxpayer money.

· The House passed H.R. 3246, which authorizes nearly $3 billion more in assistance to the auto industry for automotive research through the Department of Energy.

Budget and Spending
Each week, the RSC Budget and Spending Taskforce compiles a
weekly report on the latest budget and spending news. Additionally, the RSC Money Monitor tracks how bills passed by the House affect authorizations, mandatory spending, and federal government revenue.

Obama Sacrifices Our Military For Politics

How many more troops are going to have to die in Afghanistan before Obama admits that he is just going to withdraw? The man has showed nothing but weakness and cowardice when it comes to national security and foreign policy. I think the generals are wrong to be pursuing a hearts-and-minds campaign instead of focusing on winning the war; yet, these same generals have asked for more troops.

Either Obama should refuse and withdraw all forces or grant their request. Instead he has chosen to be indecisive and tell them to wait. Besides the fact that this shows more weakness on his part and encourages the enemy to step up operations against our forces, this is obviously a political calculation on Obama's part; he is trying to appease the far left of his party. I don't believe he ever had any intent of fighting the war on terrorism. In my opinion his self hatred of America is behind his stalling tactics.

The question is, how many more of our brave men and women are going to have to sacrifice their life before Obama makes up his mind. On a completely unrelated note, Obama will be bowing before, I mean attending, the UN this week. I wonder how much apologizing we will have to sit through this time?

Founding Fathers Quote

National defense is one of the cardinal duties of a statesman.

John Adams

No Deal, Fr. Rosica

Fr. Thomas Rosica, director of the Salt and Light Catholic Television Network in Canada, recently wrote a shameless condemnation of pro-life people who objected to the August 28th Canonization in Boston, more commonly known as the funeral of Senator Edward Kennedy. Fr. Rosica had a problem with good Catholics being scandalized by the public funeral of a man who lived his life utterly rejecting the Church's core principles. There was absolutely no recognition of the heroism of the thousands of faithful Catholics who have stood on the front lines of this battle for many decades or of the marvelous contribution that we have made to saving babies and witnessing to the Truth of Christ. Unfortunately, Father's criticism simply feeds the flames of anti-life sentiment against pro-lifers and ultimately against the sanctity of human life.

Now, the first of his many ironies was that, in condemning pro-lifers, Father was attempting to convince his readers not to condemn anyone. He reads the Scripture passage, "judge not lest ye be judged" with a bit of jaundice. He called pro-lifers all kinds of names that could have come right out of Planned Parenthood's verbiage for us, and he even insinuated in a subsequent interview that, of all people, EWTN's Raymond Arroyo was somehow part of this "uncharitable" problem in the Church because Raymond spoke out forcefully against the Kennedy scandal. Then he attacked the best pro-life news organization in the business, LifeSiteNews, saying that they were doing "the work of the devil" in shining the spotlight on this travesty. If this is the Gospel model of non-judgmentalism, I am reading the Good Book wrong.

Dietrich Bonhoeffer, the Luther pastor who was killed in the Nazi Holocaust, called this kind of sell-out "cheap grace" because it costs the pious churchman absolutely nothing to say it. In fact it must apparently feel real good because so many of them indulge in it. Let these churchmen try disciplining "Catholic" dissenters who scandalize Christ's faithful, and they would see the value of their grace increase in proportion to their suffering at the hands of these renegades.

Worst of all is that people with this strange ethic of non-judgmentalism apply a standard of mercy to public Catholic reprobates that is never applied to the aborted children who will not get a funeral or graveside service offered by prelates reading pious sentiments from a very strange gospel book. What Fr. Rosica's denunciations have thus highlighted for us is the extent to which the "judge not lest ye be judged" ethic reigns in ecclesiastical circles, and for that reason our Church is in trouble. Those who come out of a non-judgmentalism Gospel ethic, lay and cleric alike, will have nothing to offer our suffering souls in the darkness that is even now hovering over our Church like a black shroud. The pagan world is already coming after all that we hold dear and sacred, and if the murder of pro-lifer James Pouillon last week is any indication, they will soon be doing so with a vehemence that we have not experienced in our land since the days of the North American Martyrs.

To the ethic of hypocritical diatribes that defame pro-lifers, I can only say, "No deal, Father Rosica." Anyone who will use "non-judgmentalism" against faithful Catholics needs to wake up and smell the gunpowder on Jim Pouillon's pro-life t-shirt. The Church stands with all men and women of good will against the increasingly pagan and violent culture that militates against us and our values. Those who use this ethic to keep the Church totally unprepared for battle need more than a re-reading of Scripture. They need a good kick in the back end and a refresher course on Catholic bravery which St. Paul tells us makes us "strong, loving and wise." (2 Tim 1:7-8)

The Government Take Over Of Healthcare Will Have Costs

UpinAK has written a heart wrenching post on Palination about her family's experience with government run healthcare. I highly recommend you read it as it is another real life example of what people experience when the government has total control. The federal government already has too much control over our lives. This power grab will not only give them more control, but they will be dictating to the states unconstitutionally even more mandatory entitlements.

Since the states already cannot afford the entitlements they currently have it seems likely the feds will be forced to bail them out. Call me paranoid, but it appears this could be the end of the states governments as we know them. For years now the federal government has eroded the Tenth Amendment, this is just the latest effort to redefine our Republic, but if that doesn't get you fired up to oppose it think about how you would feel if it was a member of your family was dying because some government bureaucrat saw no value in their life.

Remember the young and the old are often considered to be drains on society. As hard as it is for you or I to ever think that way or to accept such twisted logic, some in the government do. Stay involved, oppose the government take over of healthcare, and most important of all pray that God delivers us from this socialist nightmare.
