Frequent Trustworthy Businesses

I was leaving the post office this morning and the van seemed to be leaning considerably to the side. I pulled over and checked the tire and discovered a screw protruding from the tread; pesky things. I drove the van to the shop I normally go to and had them repair the tire.

While I was waiting in the lobby with two of my youngsters I noticed a year book from the local Lutheran school and went through it. The kids found a couple of Christian magazines and I remembered why I trusted this particular shop with my vehicle in the first place; the crucifix hanging on the wall said it all; an unspoken confidence that I my vehicle was in good hands. So why then was I so surprised when the mechanic started talking politics when I was paying my bill?

He warned me that my tread was wearing on the sides and if I were going to replace them I might want to do it before November 1 because Obama was placing a tariff on tires from China and that the rest of the tire companies were taking advantage and hiking up their prices too. He pointed out the obvious and stated that he was conservative and that those he sees as liberals had no clue. He went on to complain that Obama didn't know what he was doing and that he was taking the rest of us down with him.

I acknowledged his obvious correctness in the matter and stated my disgust with Obama and the whole mess. After complimenting me on how well mannered my children were we said goodbye and I loaded up the kids to head on home. It is always nice to run into those who are on the same side as yourself and even nicer to know that there are business/owners out there you can count on. Remember that when you spend any money during this financially tough time, frequent trustworthy and conservative businesses; if someone is going to get your money make sure it is someone who has earned it.

Betrayed Hero

Have you ever read something that you wish you hadn't; I just did. One of my heroes and a national hero desecrated.

Stop The Religious Persecution - This Is A Free Republic

We are a Republic; something too often forgotten. I was listening to a liberal radio show the other day, waiting for Glenn Beck to come on, and they were discussing cheerleaders who had put together pro-Christian rally signs for their football team.

The liberal host was explaining how this was against the Constitution and several of his callers, including one woman in particular, thought that it was not only unConstitutional, but that Muslim and Jewish religion signs should now be displayed to make it fair and Constitutional. This is absurd. Our Republic was founded by the ancestors of people who fled religious persecution.

If we were really worried about the Constitution we would have no problem with what the cheerleaders did and would also have no problem if Muslims students at a Muslim school did the same thing. Religious freedom means that we are free to exercise our religious beliefs and most of us follow the Judeo-Christian belief system.

They have taken and perverted the Constitution so that they can strip away our religious freedom, undermining our history, and denying our Republic its moral compass. Its time we reclaim our lost freedoms before we are no longer allowed to even mention our Lord Jesus Christ.

"The liberty enjoyed by the people of these states of worshiping Almighty God agreeably to their conscience, is not only among the choicest of their blessings, but also of their rights."

George Washington

"The reformation was preceded by the discovery of America, as if the Almighty graciously meant to open a sanctuary to the persecuted in future years, when home should afford neither friendship nor safety."

Catholic League News Release

Jeff Field, policy analyst and editor of the Catholic League’s monthly journal, Catalyst, provided Bill Donohue with a review of “The Invention of Lying”; Field saw the movie today in New York City. Here are Donohue’s thoughts on it:

The trailer to the movie gave no indication of its atheistic-themed plot, but there was enough of a buzz about the agenda of screenwriter Ricky Gervais that we decided to check it out. We’re glad we did. “The Invention of Lying” is not the kind of in-your-face assault that Hollywood often serves up, but therein lies its perniciousness: because this anti-religion—make that anti-Christian—film is laced with some romance and humor, the message it sends is all the more sinister.

The movie centers on a world where no one lies. But that changes when the lead character’s mother is dying and the dutiful son finds utility in spinning a tale about a place that resembles heaven, thus saving her from being consigned to an “Eternity of Nothingness.” He subsequently floats the idea that there is a God-like “Man in the Sky,” a belief accepted by most, though some cynics wonder why AIDS exists (it’s never diabetes that Hollywood flags). In mockery, the lead character later shows up looking like a fat Jesus, and an image of him appears on a stained-glass window holding the Two Tablets (of Moses), posing as if on the Cross. In the end, he and his girl are the only two people who haven’t drunk all the moonshine about “The Man in the Sky.”

We at the Catholic League prefer our bigotry straight-up. We don’t like bigotry-lite, which this is not. But we also don’t like it slipped into our drink. It is not for nothing that the Office for Film & Broadcasting of the bishops’ conference slammed the movie as “morally offensive.” But we are pleased to note that the atheists still use our religion as the model, and still portray God as male. There is hope for them yet.

Rep. Cantor Release

Cantor: Rising Unemployment Not Acceptable, Americans Deserve Stronger Economic Leadership
October 2, 2009
Contact:Rachel Taylor

WASHINGTON, D.C. – House Republican Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA) todayissued the following statement after the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported that the U.S. economy lost 263,000 jobs in September, raising the unemployment rate to an alarming 9.8%:

“Since President Obama signed his stimulus bill into law, millions of Americans have found themselves out of work. Every job lost represents a family in economic crisis. Continued job loss does not equal success despite claims to the contrary, and the American people deserve stronger economic leadership. Families across the country are struggling to cut costs and cope with a tough job market, and they see a massive disconnect between that reality and the President’s claims of success and continued spending.

“Beginning in January, House Republicans laid out a serious and substantive agenda that put jobs first, but unfortunately House Democrats, along with the White House, instead took an unfocused, ‘go it alone’ approach. In January, the Administration argued that an immediate ‘jolt’, coupled with swift action, was needed to stop job losses and keep the unemployment rate under 8.5%. America now faces an unemployment rate that is quickly approaching 10%, and an environment where there are six job seekers available for every position. The stimulus has clearly failed to reach the Administration’s stated goals, and we need to refocus on bipartisan ways to overcome this challenge. Real job creation is a priority that we should all share.”

“Washington cannot afford to continue to make mistakes that cost Americans greatly, both today and in the future, while heaping debt upon our children. Instead, we should put partisanship aside and prioritize the way Washington spends your money by putting an end to lower priority and sometimes wasteful spending, and finding ways to responsibly pay down our debt so that our children can inherit a thriving economy and limitless opportunity.”

Catholic League News Release

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments today on the reaction to David Letterman’s revelation about having sex with his employees:

David Letterman began the week laughing about the authorities going after child rapist Roman Polanski, and he ended the week laughing about his own sexual exploits. His fans, of course, wouldn’t care if he sodomized the girls. Ali Hamoudeh of New York spoke for many when he said, “We love Letterman no matter what he does. He brings us joy.” And that’s all that counts—he brings joy. Besides, who cares? CBS quotes a Hollywood publicist today who says “the star wouldn’t be hurt by the revelations and might even be helped by them.”

It certainly didn’t hurt Letterman’s career when he laughed at the Catholic Church for what happened in 2002. That summer a man and a woman had sex in St. Patrick’s Cathedral around 4:00 p.m. on a Holy Day of Obligation for Catholics. They did so in plain view of men, women and children and had their performance described on the radio as part of some sick contest. Most people were aghast, the radio hosts who rigged the caper were fired, and apologies were issued by the radio station. Letterman, however, found it so hysterical that he used the story to tell jokes about it for three nights. Wonder how many nights he will use his own sexploits as source material?

There was a time, not long ago, when feminists would demonstrate in the street demanding Letterman be fired for sexual harassment. As defined by feminists, sexual harassment typically kicks in whenever a boss, usually a man, uses his position of power to initiate sex with his subordinates. But Letterman need not worry: feminists have shown so much interest in matching men at the game of sexual promiscuity that the issue of sexual harassment no longer interests them. Here’s the proof. The National Organization for Women lists six issues as “Key Issues” and twenty more as “Other Important Issues.” Sexual harassment is not one of the six hot issues, though “Lesbian Rights” is; sexual harassment is not even one of the twenty “Other” issues, though “Fighting the Right” is. In other words, as long as Letterman doesn’t tell lesbian jokes, he can take advantage of all the girls he wants.

Founding Fathers Quote

No political truth is certainly of greater intrinsic value, or is stamped with the authority of more enlightened patrons of liberty than that on which the objection is founded. The accumulation of all powers, legislative, executive, and judiciary, in the same hands, whether of one, a few, or many, and whether hereditary, self-appointed, or elective, may justly be pronounced the very definition of tyranny.

Update from the House Republican Study Committee (RSC)

RSC Update: Monday, September 28, 2009

From the Chairman
For Americans concerned by President Obama’s approach to world affairs, last week was very troubling.

It was revealed that Iran has been operating a secret, underground uranium enrichment plant whose design indicates that it is intended for a nuclear weapons program. The most stunning news, however, is that the Obama administration was aware of this plant’s existence, understood that it appears to be non-peaceful in nature, yet still scrapped plans for a missile defense site in Eastern Europe because the threat from Iran had decreased!

The Iranian regime’s long history of lies and secrecy about their nuclear program shows a clear desire for more than just civilian uses, and they also continue to develop missile technology capable of delivering a nuclear payload. It is simply reckless for President Obama to weaken our missile defense systems (he’s also cut $1.2 billion in funding!) while the threats from countries like Iran and North Korea grow ever more dangerous.

In addition, news broke early last week that General Stanley McChrystal, the commanding general in Afghanistan, believes we will not be able to achieve our goals there without more troops on the ground. Yet the President is reportedly “skeptical” of General McChrystal’s request (which is supported by General David Petraeus and Chairman of the Joint Chiefs Admiral Mike Mullen) for additional troops.

General McChrystal was appointed to his post by President Obama and is pursuing a counter-insurgency strategy that the President endorsed just six months ago. During last year’s campaign, the President called Afghanistan the “central front” in the fight against terrorism and promised to listen to his commanders on the ground. That he is now reluctant to follow through on his rhetoric is disturbing – though not surprising.

Congressman Tom Price
Chairman, Republican Study Committee

RSC Media Activity
Every week, Republican Study Committee members work hard to ensure that the conservative viewpoint is well-represented in all corners of the media.

· Rep. Michele Bachmann (MN-06): Widen Scope Of What Caused Meltdown?; Investors Business Daily, September 23.

· Rep. Kevin Brady (TX-08): Trade is Critical to the U.S. Economy; Weekly Column, September 24.

· Rep. Pete Hoekstra (MI-02) and Rep. John Shadegg (AZ-03): Intelligence is a Critical Need; Washington Times, September 25.

RSC Legislative Activity
RSC members have made it a priority to introduce productive, conservative alternatives to the Democrats’ reckless agenda.

· During the House and Senate appropriations conference Rep. Robert Aderholt (AL-04) introduced an amendment to prohibit funding to ACORN during the 2010 fiscal year. Rep. Tom Cole (OK-04) offered amendments to prohibit funding to unaccountable czars without greater oversight and to end the White House’s TARP slush-fund. Democrats unanimously voted against and defeated all three amendments.

· House Republican Conference Chairman Mike Pence (IN-06) spoke on the House floor asking why the American people provide twenty percent of the funding for the United Nations when it serves as a forum for invective against Israel and the West.

· Rep. Trent Franks (AZ-02) took to the House floor to call on world leaders to act now to halt Iran’s drive for nuclear weapons.

Here is a preview of upcoming Democrat proposals to advance their big-government, anti-taxpayer agenda.

· The House has a severely abbreviated schedule this week. Closed door discussions on health care continue as Speaker Nancy Pelosi tries to get a government-takeover of health care through the House. Democrat leaders continue to ignore Republican ideas and proposals. This week’s legislative calendar will most likely include the conference report for the Energy and Water Appropriations bill and a bill authorizing billions of dollars in aid to Pakistan.

House Floor Activity
The following key legislation came through the House of Representatives last week.

· After it failed to pass on suspension of the rules, the House again took up H.R. 324 last week. The bill, which would establish a new National Heritage Area in Arizona, passed without a single Democrat voting against it despite concerns about energy development, drug trafficking, and funding questions.

· Because the appropriations process for the 2010 fiscal year is not complete, the House passed a continuing resolution to keep the federal government in operation for an additional month after September 30. To prevent Republicans from offering an amendment from RSC member Rep. Jim Jordan (OH-04) that would have saved taxpayers $84 billion, Speaker Pelosi folded the continuing resolution into a separate measure relating to funding of the Legislative Branch for the 2010 fiscal year (which also includes hefty spending increases).

Budget and Spending
Each week, the RSC Budget and Spending Taskforce compiles a
weekly report on the latest budget and spending news. Additionally, the RSC Money Monitor tracks how bills passed by the House affect authorizations, mandatory spending, and federal government revenue.

Thou Shalt Have No Other God Before Me

Any day now the federal government may surround another devil worshiping cult and wipe them out, just like Waco all over again; Right? Video has been released showing the what appears to be cult-like activities of members worshiping their false prophet. Allegedly this is a mock prayer singing praises to Obama, but mock or not this disturbing behavior is questionable, and suspect. We cannot have unstable, cult-like personalities involved in the community, contaminating the establishment of our society and the very foundations of our Republic.

Women and men who betrayed this Republic by voting Democrat and Obama are hiding in their beds, shaking in fear, and asking God for forgiveness of their sins as they watch gangs of bitter, self-hating, self-victimized, barbaric thugs beat and kill a student in a display of audacity toward American society. I am sorry, I forgot my place, I have discovered that in the America of hope and change only whites and minority conservatives are punished (unjustly in most cases mind you) while mobs run amuck using the race card to justify their behavior.

Now we have Obama metaphorically crawling on his unworthy hands and knees and disgustingly begging for the Olympics to come to Chicago. I tell you that is exactly what I would want if I were on the Olympic Commission; to hold the Olympics in the dirty, old city that launched the spineless political career of Obama and sports mobs of thugs like the one who bashed in the head of a student. He continues to disgrace the presidency with each new act. A sane voter would realize that voting for the Democrat Party is a vote for socialism and the destruction of everything that good about America.
