Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on this season’s Halloween costumes:
There are costumes depicting Jesus, priests, nuns, ministers, rabbis and imams, and most of them are innocuous. But there are two costumes that are vulgar, and, as usual, they are designed to offend Catholics: a priest with an erection and a pregnant nun, often sold as a pair.
Some immigrant groups are upset about an illegal alien costume, but even those who are complaining don’t say it is vulgar. A mere depiction of Muhammad in a Danish cartoon that was anything but vulgar led to riots. Now imagine what would happen if we paired Muhammad sporting an erection with a Latina illegal alien? Not to worry, it’s only Catholic clergy and religious that the bigots want to bash.
Spirit Halloween, owned by Spencer Gifts, is carrying the objectionable costumes, as are the websites of Amazon, Halloween Costume World, Annie’s Costumes, Halloween Store and Halloween Express. We urge Catholics to patronize stores like Target, Walgreen’s, CVS and Wal-Mart: they don’t carry such offensive fare.

Catholic League president Bill Donohue comments on an article in today’s New York Times on New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg and his relations with African American ministers:
Rev. Calvin O. Butts III has managed to grab “at least $7 million in city contracts” under Bloomberg for his church and non-profits.
Rev. Floyd H. Flake is awash in millions of dollars—make that $8 million—in city contracts for city services his church provides.
Rev. A.R. Bernard wins the trophy: the Bloomberg administration decided to sell parts of two streets to his Christian Cultural Center.
According to the article, Bloomberg “has deployed an unusual combination of city money, private philanthropy, political appointments and personal attention, creating a web of ties to black clergy members that is virtually unheard of for a white elected official in New York City.”
Look what Bloomberg got in return: he received the endorsements and “the blessings of the city’s most powerful black ministers, who together preach to tens of thousands of congregants each week.”
Where in the world are the church and state watchdogs when it comes to government aid to black churches? If Catholic priests had this kind of “relationship” with Bloomberg, all hell would break loose.
Once again, white liberal racism is at work: black ministers can endorse political candidates with impunity, but woe to a Catholic priest who preaches against abortion. Moreover, Catholics are still waiting for Bloomberg to say it’s okay to put a nativity scene in the classroom alongside the Jewish religious symbol, the menorah. We don’t even want the mayor to buy us a street.

The other disgrace was his signing of the new hate crimes law. This is completely unconstitutional. You cannot have one set of punishment for certain races. Sounds like Obama and the Democrats are trying to return us to slavery; where certain races have more rights than others. It is unconstitutional and a disgrace. Any Republican running for Congress or the Presidential nomination should commit to repealing this and other unconstitutional laws passed under the Bush and Obama administrations.
Rep. Mike Pence had a no hold-bar response to Obama's activities today. Here is his press release.
Pence Denounces President's Support for Hate-Crimes
“The president has used his position as commander in chief to advance a radical social agenda, when he should have used it to advance legislation that would unequivocally support our troops.”
Washington, DC - U.S. Congressman Mike Pence, Chairman of the House Republican Conference, issued the following statement after President Obama signed into law the National Defense Authorization Act for Fiscal Year 2010 that included so-called ‘hate crimes' legislation:
"Today, the president of the United States put his liberal social priorities ahead of an unambiguous affirmation of our men and women in uniform. Every day, our Armed Forces stand in defense of freedom and our cherished way of life. It is deeply offensive to their service and to millions of Americans to pile so-called ‘hate crimes' legislation onto a bill that authorizes critical resources for our troops. Hate crimes legislation is antithetical to the First Amendment, unnecessary and will have a chilling effect on religious freedom.
"The president has used his position as commander in chief to advance a radical social agenda, when he should have used it to advance legislation that would unequivocally support our troops. We should remember why our soldiers put on the uniform, and honor their service by giving them the resources they need to get the job done, without unrelated liberal priorities attached."

Just one year ago, would you have believed that an unelected government official, not even a Cabinet member confirmed by the Senate but simply one of the many "czars" appointed by the President, could arbitrarily cut the pay of executives in private businesses by 50 percent or 90 percent? For example, I have volunteered to do phone banking for him and I know they need more help. We can no longer just look at our own districts. Every members of Congress affects our lives directly. A more conservative Congress leads to more freedom and liberty for all of us.
Here is where David Harmer stands on the issues.
Bailouts, Deficits and the National Debt
In the past year, the deficit has exploded and our national debt has spiraled out of control.
The federal government's serial bailouts of banks, automakers, insurance companies and mortgage guarantors have piled mammoth debt on our children, while the so-called stimulus has burdened the economy instead of fostering growth.
I'm running for Congress to stop this runaway spending. I will fight to bring some fiscal common sense, prudence and thrift in how your tax dollars are spent.
Health Care Reform
Any health care reform must first do no harm. Congress must ensure that any reform does not reduce the quality or availability of our health care.
In Congress, I will strive to empower patients with more choices, better access and higher quality care. I will also work to remove tax and legal policies that push people into third-party payer systems, and I will fight to eliminate unnecessary mandates that help inflate health care costs.
All four of my children attend excellent public schools. My wife, Elayne, is a substitute teacher for the San Ramon Valley Unified School District. I've served as Treasurer, and now serve as Vice President, of the Windemere Ranch Middle School Education Fund.
I believe passionately that every child deserves the opportunity for a good education. I understand the frustrations of parents, teachers and administrators who face funding challenges and bureaucratic complexity in trying to provide one. In Congress, I'll continue working to maximize educational opportunities for students, while resisting efforts to centralize authority in Sacramento or Washington.
I favor a forward-thinking "all of the above" energy policy that promotes conservation and cost-effective, environmentally sound alternatives to conventional energy sources, while also developing our own natural resources.
What we don't need is a new national energy tax -- especially in this tough economy. Our energy policy must be balanced, and must seek to enhance existing supplies while we get more renewable energy production up and running.
In Congress, I will work to responsibly address the growing nuclear threats from dangerous and unpredictable countries like North Korea and Iran.
While supporting diplomatic measures to resolve these situations, I will convey the united resolve of the American people to protect our citizens, allies and interests. Any commitment of American lives or tax dollars overseas should occur only after cautious, judicious and bipartisan deliberation.

Israel wants Obama to cool his jets till after PA election
Israeli officials on Monday told The Jerusalem Post that US President Barack Obama should hold off on his efforts to ram through a Middle East peace deal until after the upcoming Palestinian elections.
Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas declared January 24 as election day last Friday, and Jerusalem believes he will become more intractable than ever as he plays to the Palestinian street prior to the poll. The officials attributed the recent hardening of Abbas' positions to his intent to hold elections in the near future.
With little or no flexibility on the Palestinian side, and any Israeli leader unable to meet 100 percent of Palestinian demands, now is simply not an opportune time for Washington to be pushing negotiations.
Nevertheless, US envoy George Mitchell is expected to return to the region later this week to do just that.
Mitchell's hurried return may also be in response to messages sent by Abbas to the White House threatening to resign and not run in the upcoming election, as reported by Israel's Channel 10 News. Washington views Abbas as a "moderate" leader, and one of only a few Palestinian leaders capable of being a true peace partner for Israel.
Playing on that sentiment, Abbas reportedly wrote to Obama that he feels abandoned by the US leader's failure to more quickly extract Israeli concessions and Obama's delaying of a UN vote on the Goldstone Report accusing Israel of war crimes in Gaza.
According to the report, Obama immediately phoned Abbas to coddle and calm him.

SECTION 1803: SENATE HEALTH CARE BILL MAKES PLANNED PARENTHOOD QUASI-GOVERNMENT AGENCY?
Washington, DC (27 October 2009) – The Senate version of America’s Healthy Future Act of 2009 may transform the nation’s largest abortion chain into a quasi-government entity for sex education.
Section 1803, page 503, creates a National Teen Pregnancy Prevention Resource Center and states:
The Secretary shall award a grant to a nationally recognized, nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that meets the requirements described in clause (ii) to establish and operate a national teen pregnancy prevention resource center (in this subparagraph referred to as the ‘Resource Center’) to carry out the purpose and activities described in clause (iii). (emphasis added)
According to the requirements found in clause (ii):
According to Rita Diller, national director for STOP Planned Parenthood, there is only one “nationally recognized” organization that fits the bill – Planned Parenthood.
“This dangerous provision to the Senate health care bill could give Planned Parenthood, already under investigation for tax fraud and concealing child rape, quasi-government status and even more influence over our kids,” Diller said.
Section 1803 also creates a “Personal Responsibility Education for Adulthood Training” program (i.e. sex education), which grants at least $250,000 to each state to educate adolescents on "both abstinence and contraception for the prevention of pregnancy and STDs."
American Life League’s Michael Hichborn has a full analysis of this and the many other dangerous provisions included in the health care bill in his upcoming report on America’s Healthy Future Act of 2009.

I was sitting there today taking care of three sick little kids and myself and it dawned on me, I am so richly blessed. A short while ago my wife and I celebrated our Anniversary. The years have flown by. It seems like just the other day we met and at the same time it seems like we have known each other forever. I know for a fact that I found my soulmate when I met my wife.
To someone who is young and not married yet I can tell you, the second you meet your soulmate you will know it. I cannot convey to you what a blessing and joy a Godly wife is. Financially I am far from a rich man, but I have riches beyond measure. I have five beautiful little blessings and the queen of my heart; who I try and remind myself each day is a blessing I am undeserving of.

RSC Update: Monday, October 26, 2009
Where Are President Obama’s Priorities?
Click to watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JOL6xjlwbQI
RSC Media Activity
Every week, Republican Study Committee members work hard to ensure that the conservative viewpoint is well-represented in all corners of the media.
· Rep. Pete Olson (TX-22): Action in Afghanistan Must Happen Now; The Hill, October 19.
· Rep. Phil Roe (TN-01): Will The Health Care Bill Add To The National Deficit?; Weekly Column, October 21.
· Rep. Dan Lungren (CA-03): Maryland Shouldn’t Prosecute ACORN Filmmakers; BigGovernment.com, October 23.
RSC Legislative Activity
RSC members have made it a priority to introduce productive, conservative alternatives to the Democrats’ reckless agenda.
· The RSC recently updated this list of member-sponsored health care initiatives. RSC members have introduced no fewer than 53 bills related to health care.
· Rep. Paul Broun (GA-10) introduced H.R. 3889, the Offering Patients True and Individualized Options Now Act. The OPTIONS Act is a free-market alternative to the Democrats’ government-centered proposals.
Here is a preview of upcoming Democrat proposals to advance their big-government, anti-taxpayer agenda.
· Because the FY 2010 budget process is not complete and the current Continuing Resolution (CR) funding the federal government expires this week, the House will consider another CR to continue funding for an additional month or more. This CR may be combined with the Interior Appropriations Conference Report.
· The House will also consider H.R. 3854, a combination of 8 separate bills dealing with Small Business Administration loan programs.
· In both the House and Senate, Democrat leaders continue to meet behind closed doors to combine each their committee-passed versions of health care legislation into one bill for each chamber. Although Republicans and the American people are still being kept in the dark, Speaker Pelosi may unveil the combined House version this week.
House Floor Activity
The following key legislation came through the House of Representatives last week.
· Last week, the House passed H.R. 1619, the Coast Guard Authorization Act of 2009 and H.R. 3585, the Solar Technology Roadmap Act.
Budget and Spending
Each week, the RSC Budget and Spending Taskforce compiles a weekly report on the latest budget and spending news. Additionally, the RSC Money Monitor tracks how bills passed by the House affect authorizations, mandatory spending, and federal government revenue.

Our chairman quickly turned to me and said 'this is your guy and you will do it, right?' I, unfortunately, had to tell him that I could not because I did not support the congressman. You could have heard a pin drop as they both asked why I did not support the congressman. I politely, but thoroughly explained all the areas the congressman had betrayed us Conservatives, how he had supported big government agenda, and given cover to Nancy Pelosi on several crucial votes.
I then pointed out his disdain for those of us who want our borders secured, even though he had a decent record on the subject. I instantly went from being well respected to an outcast. Later when the county chairman stopped into the headquarters on a campaign I was working on he again brought up the subject. When I would not back down he told me how kooky I sounded and that I wasn't rational; that we have to support candidates we don't agree with in order to regain the majority.
He also admitted to me that he did not support the congressman for any other reason than he was a Republican. He also admitted that he agreed with me on most of the policy differences I had, yet because I would not tow the Party line I was suddenly kooky and worthless.
Now this is a very long story and I apologize for that, but when at first it was just a few of us I have now seen it morph into what I believe to be the majority opinion in the Party. We are no longer willing to settle for the scraps the Party throws our way. The ones who are kooky are those who haven't woken up to that fact.
I think Doug Hoffman is going to win the New York 23rd and Marco Rubio is going to win Florida. In every state we now see races where Conservative and Libertarian minded candidates are putting themselves in the cross hairs and giving us a true choice. When Party politics and insiders sided against Hoffman he could have backed down and went home, but instead he stood up and fought to give Conservatives in his district a choice. He should be applauded as should every candidate and citizen who will no longer sit on the bench and just watch the game. This is what Newt neglected to notice when he sided against Conservatives.
ALG Editor's Note: William Warren's award-winning cartoons published at GetLiberty.org are a free service of ALG News Bureau. They may be reused and redistributed free of charge.
If the Republic elite is willing to do the same by throwing their support behind liberals with R's at the ends of their names then they can go down in that ship alone. Every Republican leader who betrays American and conservative heritage should be abandoned as ineffective, irrelevant, and traitorous.
Now, as far as the NRCC goes this is what Conservatives should very seriously consider doing; stop any donations, demand any donations already made be returned, and give the money directly to the Conservative candidates they refuse to support. It no longer matters if they are Republican or Independent; only that they are Constitutionally Conservative.
We have already suffered huge losses because of liberal Republicans why put up with any more? If we must lose, let it be because we threw our support to the conservative Independent and refused to betray our values. In my opinion, and that of many others, we will win big in many races because the movement back toward Conservatism has begun and won't be stopped.
We will lose some too, but I guarantee that after the first round of losses, proving our resolve, the Republican leadership will have no choice but to back down to the will of the people; those who don't are easily replaced. They are expendable and they need to be reminded just as easy comes, easy goes.
Far too long have we ignored our local party's effect on our choices and our effectiveness. What good does it do for us to volunteer and get involved if our own local leadership stabs us in the back by bowing to liberal agendas and candidates? Too many of us have overlooked the importance of being a part of, and voting in, local elections.
Everything that goes on in Washington began at the local level; everything goes uphill in this game and those that we elect in our own home towns will be our future leaders. Who they are today will be compounded by the time they tread through all the dark political mire between home and Washington. The rule will always remain the same; a moderate will become more liberal and a true Conservative will become more obstinate for the will of the people, in protecting the Constitution, and ensuring freedom for all.
Our warning to the Republican leadership is this; back down now or forever remain in the minority. Please note that we have removed our donation link to the NRCC; we have long financially supported them, but after the debacle of the New York 23rd and their willingness to attack Conservative candidates we will no longer donate to them but rather send our money directly to Conservative candidates and groups.
Catholic League president Bill Donohue speaks to the selection of Kevin Jennings as Director of the Office of Safe and Drug Free Schools:
On September 23, I wrote a news release on the curious moral credentials of Kevin Jennings to be President Obama’s Safe Schools Czar: a former drug user and irresponsible teen counselor, he is also a Christian basher. What was not known at the time is that he is also a proud member of ACT UP, the homosexual urban terrorist group that broke into St. Patrick’s Cathedral in 1989 and disrupted Mass; the Eucharist was desecrated and obscene depictions of Cardinal O’Connor were posted.
Now a group called MassResistance, and the website WorldNetDaily, have exposed Jennings as a member of ACT UP. And he is no mere member: Jennings is listed as a donor to a sick display, “ACT UP New York: Activism, Art, and the AIDS Crisis, 1987-1993,” currently featured at the Harvard Art Museum. Harvard, of course, would never feature a display of Klan paraphernalia and say it was being done for the purpose of “dialogue.”
The real story here is not the corruption of Harvard—that’s old hat—the real story is the president of the United States choosing a morally challenged anti-Catholic homosexual to join his team. That Jennings belongs to, and sponsors, an urban terrorist organization, should alone disqualify him from public service at a municipal level. And remember, Obama did not choose him to monitor global cooling—he was chosen to instruct youth on moral matters.
Catholics deserve to know why Obama likes Jennings.
