Obamacare to force health insurance plans to cover birth control, morning after pill

LAKE JACKSON, Texas – Today, 2012 Republican presidential candidate Congressman Ron Paul commented on an announcement this week by the Health and Human Services department that under the Obama administration’s new healthcare law, health insurance plans will be forced to provide coverage for birth control. See comments below.

“The Obama administration’s decision to mandate coverage of birth control and morning-after pills is payback to Planned Parenthood and big pharmaceutical companies for their support of Obamacare.

“This mandate violates the conscience of millions of pro-life Americans.

“In Congress, I have introduced H.R. 1099, the Taxpayer Freedom of Conscience Act, which removes all federal funding for domestic and international family planning.

“As President, I plan to defund Obamacare and all federal programs that use tax money taken from the American people to promote abortion.

“I pledge also to veto any bill with funding for Planned Parenthood or any other international family planning regimes.”

Catholic League News Release

AIR FORCE ATTACKED BY RELIGIOUS FOES

The U.S. Air Force has suspended a class at Vandenberg Air Force Base after complaints that it violates church and state. Bill Donohue responded with this letter to Gen. Edward A. Rice, Jr., the Commander of Air Education and Training:

I have a three-fold interest in writing to you about the decision to suspend the "Christian Just War Theory" class at Vandenberg AFB: (a) I am the president of the nation's largest Catholic civil rights organization (b) I am a former college professor (c) I am a veteran of the U.S. Air Force.

The decision to suspend the course is not only wrongheaded, it represents capitulation to political pressure emanating from the foes of religious liberty. For several years, I have stood by the United States Air Force Academy leadership in their attempt to stave off assaults by Mikey Weinstein's Military Religious Freedom Foundation, and others. The goal of these pressure groups is to censor the public expression of religion on the campuses of military academies, and at military installations, in general. They are doing so under the guise of constitutional concerns.

As one who has written several books on this subject, I can testify that there is absolutely nothing in the Constitution of the United States that disqualifies a presentation of St. Augustine's "just war theory," and related biblical references. In fact, the First Amendment protects freedom of speech, as well as religious liberty. "Just war theory" is taught at state institutions all across the nation—explicitly citing Augustine's contribution—and never has it been an issue. Moreover, biblical passages are often cited when referencing the work of Rev. Martin Luther King. Should we similarly censor them?

I have read the materials used in the class, and can assure you that no one—save an anti-religious zealot—would find fault with them. I therefore urge you to stand fast against these bullies and do what is academically right and constitutionally protected: reinstate the class.

State Sen. Glenn Grothman: Year-to-Date List of GOP Legislative Accomplishments

A Busy Six Months:

The GOP-led Legislature Has Accomplished a Great Deal Since January
Among other things, the Legislature and Governor Walker have:

Passed a state budget (2011 Act 32) on time, without tax increases, that leaves Wisconsin in the black for the first time in over a decade:
  • Turned a $3 billion deficit into a $300 million surplus
  • Instituted the first permanent property tax cap in our state’s history
  • Cut bonding (state borrowing) by nearly 20 percent
  • Cut more than 1,000 government jobs, including 735 long-term vacancies
  • Enacted sweeping business tax reforms that will save Wisconsin’s job creators over   $130 million a year when fully implemented.

Results:

  • In the first 6 months of 2011, Wisconsin showed job growth more than twice the national rate
  • 88% of Wisconsin businesses say the state is on the right track, up from 10% a year ago
  • 53% of businesses of all sizes predict they will add jobs and increase wages in the next 12 months1
The Budget Repair Bill (2011 Act 10) gave schools and other local governments the tools to control their budgets without sacrificing services:

  • MacIver Institute: Wisconsin Schools Already In Line to Save Hundreds of Millions of Dollars2;
  • Milwaukee Journal Sentinel: Most state school districts dodge layoffs, cuts – some districts hiring new teachers for the upcoming academic year3.

(continued)

Other Legislative Successes So Far:

  • Protected our votes by requiring a picture I.D. at the polls (2011 Act 23)
  • Became the 49th U.S. state to recognize its citizens’ Second Amendment rights to carry concealed weapons (2011 Act 35)
  • Created a commission on Waste, Fraud, and Abuse that has already reported a potential $260 million in savings (Executive Order)
  • Limited manufacturer liability only to those products they actually produced (2011 Act 2)
  • Created a state tax credit for Health Savings Accounts (2011 Act 1)

  • Passed legislation requiring a 2/3 supermajority vote to raise income or sales tax rates unless a statewide referendum supports the increases (2011 Act 9)
  • Repealed higher auto insurance requirements enacted in the 2009 budget (2011 Act 14)
  • Expanded the prohibition against tax money being used to subsidize abortion (2011 Act 32)
  • Repealed in-state tuition for illegal immigrants (2011 Act 32)
  • Repealed a mandate on local law enforcement to collect racial data during traffic stops (2011 Act 29)
  • Expanded School Choice to Racine and potentially Green Bay (2011 Act 32)
  • Required a successful drug test in order to receive unemployment benefits 2011 (2011 Act 32)
  • Wisconsin paid off its $60 million debt owed to Minnesota under the former tax reciprocity agreement between the states (2011 Act 32)
  • Wisconsin paid back the $200 million from Gov. Doyle’s unconstitutional raid of the Patients Compensation Fund (2011 Act 32)
Looking forward to the next six months!  Here are some of the issues I will be working on:

  • Welfare Reform
  • Reining in divisive Affirmative Action programs
  • Giving Parents More Options in Education
  • Growing jobs by reining in excessive regulation
  • Tort reform
  • Restoring Parents’ Rights

Is America Ready for President Paul?

Is America Ready for President Paul?

Wisdom From Ron Paul

"One thing is clear: The Founding Fathers never intended a nation where citizens would pay nearly half of everything they earn to the government."  Ron Paul

Ron Paul: When a Cut is Not a Cut

One might think that the recent drama over the debt ceiling involves one side wanting to increase or maintain spending with the other side wanting to drastically cut spending, but that is far from the truth. In spite of the rhetoric being thrown around, the real debate is over how much government spending will increase.

No plan under serious consideration cuts spending in the way you and I think about it. Instead, the "cuts" being discussed are illusory, and are not cuts from current amounts being spent, but cuts in projected spending increases. This is akin to a family "saving" $100,000 in expenses by deciding not to buy a Lamborghini, and instead getting a fully loaded Mercedes, when really their budget dictates that they need to stick with their perfectly serviceable Honda. But this is the type of math Washington uses to mask the incriminating truth about their unrepentant plundering of the American people.

Obama Facing Landslide Loss. Dick Morris TV: Lunch ALERT!

What Republic?

Not to be overly dramatic, but the republic is gone.  Not only do we no longer enjoy the freedom and independence that our founding fathers bestowed upon us, but Washington refuses to get serious about spending.  Their idea of spending cuts is simply to limit the increase in spending; no real spending cuts exist

The leadership of both parties is pathetic.  They're unwilling to reign in their out-of-control spending and power grabs.  The politicians willing to tackle the problems we face are ridiculed as fringe and extreme.  As long as there is no willingness to return to a republic, and limited federal government, there is no hope for saving it.  It will continue to deteriorate and the damage has all been caused from within.

Biden charging Secret Service for cottage rental - Washington Times

Biden charging Secret Service for cottage rental - Washington Times

How do you tell the difference between Democrats, Republicans, and Southerners?

Answer: Pose the following question:

You're walking down a deserted street with your wife and two small children. Suddenly, a dangerous looking man with a wild look in his eyes; and a huge knife in his hand comes around the corner, locks eyes with you, screams obscenities, raises the knife, and charges. You are carrying a Glock 40, and you are an expert shot. You have mere seconds before he reaches you and your family. What do you do?

Democrat Answer:

Well, that's not enough information to answer the question! Does the man look poor or oppressed? Have I ever done anything to him that would inspire him to attack? Could we run away? What does my wife think? What about the kids? Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand? What does the law say about this situation?

What would the ACLU say? Does the Glock have appropriate safety built into it? Why am I carrying a loaded gun anyway, and what kind of message does this send to society and to my children? Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me? Does he definitely want to kill me, or would he be content just to wound me? If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me? Should I call 9-1-1? Why is this street so deserted? We need to raise taxes, have a paint and weed day and make this a happier, healthier street that would discourage such behavior.
