RELEASE: Maloney To Run For Governor
"We started something last year. Now it’s time to finish it," Says Maloney
MORGANTOWN – Bill Maloney, the Republican nominee in the 2011 gubernatorial special election, will run for the Office of Governor.
Maloney announced his intentions to run for governor with his wife Sharon and a group of supporters at Ruby's & Ketchy's, a Morgantown family restaurant, this morning. He then filed his candidacy paperwork with the Secretary of State in Charleston thereby becoming an official candidate for the Republican gubernatorial primary.
The following are excerpts from Maloney at this morning's announcement:
"Thank you all for joining us today.
"And it’s great to be here at Ruby's and Ketchy’s! Judy Frum and her family have been home cookin' here since 1958 -- the year of my birth.
"Back in the day, Judy coached our daughters cheerleading squad for the mighty Ashebrooke Pistons. Thanks to all of you and everyone else who gets involved in their communities!
"That’s why Sharon and I are here. Like we have been fortunate enough to do our entire lives, we want to be involved and make a difference. The stage just keeps getting a little bigger.
"Like many West Virginians, we started out living in trailers. First at Independence Hill, then at Healthy Heights back in 1984 when we started North American Drillers. With a lot of determination and hard work we grew our company into something really special.
"We have lived the American dream. We worked hard, strived to do the right thing and were ultimately successful. There are those that think there is something wrong with that -- they are misguided.
"This is still America! This is West Virginia! Where Mountaineers are always free!
"Over the course of last year’s election, it was clear that the people of West Virginia were ready to move on from the days where bureaucracy and corruption held our state back. We came as close as we did because our message resonated with thousands of West Virginians.
"While we have come so far, there is much still left to do to ensure that West Virginia becomes all it can and should be:
"We can make the business climate better.
"We can cut a wasteful bureaucracy.
"We can eliminate needless regulations that hold back job growth.
"We can elect a new president, and you can be sure I won't be voting for President Obama.
"We can make things better in West Virginia. That's what it’s all about and that's why I'm running for Governor once again.
"All we want is more for our state. All we want is a better future for our children.
"We started something last year. Now it’s time to finish it. Let's win this election for the people of West Virginia!
"Thank you all for your dedication to the cause!"
