A Word About Eric Hovde

I have been supporting Mark Neumann in the Wisconsin Senate race.  I am now re-evaluating that choice.  While I like Neumann on a lot of issues, he is not fighting for the nomination like Eric Hovde.  His website is almost never updated and when I contacted the campaign a couple of months back about more regular updates, so bloggers like myself could help get out the information, I was blown off.

Now, I have been paying attention to all of the campaigns and Eric Hovde, by far, has the best run, most organized campaign machine I have seen since Ron Paul.  I love the detail he is getting out on where he stands and where his beliefs are; no guesswork with him.   For example, here is his video on the Federal Reserve.

Wisconsin needs someone who is passionate and who will fight to reign in the Federal Government so that our children can grow up in a freer, more prosperous America.  No endorsement yet, but I am very close to going all in for Eric Hovde; a candidate willing to fight for Wisconsin.

Founding Fathers Quote

The state governments have a full superintendence and control over the immense mass of local interests of their respective states, which connect themselves with the feelings, the affections, the municipal institutions, and the internal arrangements of the whole population. They possess, too, the immediate administration of justice in all cases, civil and criminal, which concern the property, personal rights, and peaceful pursuits of their own citizens.

Update On The USS Freedom

The USS Freedom is fit for service.  My only concern is every new class of ship has to have a significant period of time to work out all the kinks.  I hope the Navy isn't rushing things in order to make their deployment schedule to Singapore.

The Feast Day Of Saint Joan of Arc

Today is the feast day of my favorite saint, Joan of Arc; Patron Saint of soldiers and France.  Being of French descent and a veteran you can see why I have an affection for her.  Her history, though, is absolutely awe inspiring.  Here is a good article, if you just want the basics.

Here is a fun little video about Saint Joan of Arc.  They also do several other videos meant to teach history.

Littoral Combat Ships To Be Deployed To Asia?

As a strong supporter of our Littoral combat ship program I am disheartened to read that they may not be spending much time protecting the USA.  I believe in a strong Navy protecting American interests, but some thought should be given to securing our own coasts as China's Naval capabilities continue their rapid expansion.

It continues to amaze me that we consider closing bases in the US while expanding our overseas bases.  Many of which, will be within range of Chinese land-based aircraft and missiles.  Can you say Pearl Harbor?

Down Syndrome, Guesswork Medicine, And The Beauty Of Human Life

I just finished reading a heart-wrenching article on the continued assault on children with Down Syndrome. It is really staggering that only 1 in 10 will survive their mother's womb. Abortion should never be the answer. Every human deserves life. That is a God given liberty that no man or woman has a right to take from an innocent baby.

We were told with our youngest son that he may have Down Syndrome. He does not. We would have loved him even if he did. Only God knows the plan he has for each life. I have often thought, since that pregnancy, if we were not Catholic and had listened to the doctors we would have murdered a healthy baby boy.

Our middle child also showed developmental issues on the ultra sound. The doctor, at that time, made a comment to my wife that she would have to consider her choices; at which time I exploded we were Catholic and would never consider abortion. My wife reiterated the same, which seems to be the only opinion doctors value, and the doctor responded that it was a Catholic hospital and it could not have been done there anyway. Our daughter was also born perfectly healthy and is unbelievably gifted intellectually and luckily takes after her mom in her beauty.

That is two innocent children whose lives could have been ended simply because of our culture's rush to destroy whatever they think might not be perfect. Life is beautiful, in all forms.

My wife is currently pregnant with our seventh child, a baby boy, and the marker test results have come back with levels that could indicate Down Syndrome.  So we have an ultra sound today and a 4D ultra sound in a few weeks in Green Bay.  It does not matter to us, in the long run, if they are right or wrong this time.  Our baby is a blessing that we are enthusiastically awaiting to make his entrance into the bitter cold of Wisconsin's fall:-)

Medical science has proven, in our family, to entail a lot of guesswork.  Doctors are not omnipotent beings; they are humans working with our very limited understanding of God's creation.

Founding Fathers Quote

Honor, justice, and humanity, forbid us tamely to surrender that freedom which we received from our gallant ancestors, and which our innocent posterity have a right to receive from us. We cannot endure the infamy and guilt of resigning succeeding generations to that wretchedness which inevitably awaits them if we basely entail hereditary bondage on them.

Memorial Day Thoughts on Honor and Duty

Memorial Day Thoughts on Honor and Duty

Paulitical Ticker with Jack Hunter

Today we remember those who gave their lives serving our country.

We must always remember that while it is the soldier’s job to do his or her duty, it is the citizen’s job to make sure that when our government decides to put our soldiers in harm’s way, it is for a good reason. Our leaders must be held accountable for their decisions, good and bad–not simply given carte blanche on foreign policy.

Without fail, America’s soldiers have always done their duty. Today, we remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this country.

We, on the other hand, regular citizens, have done a poor job in holding our leaders accountable for bad decisions in our foreign policy. Many Iraq and Afghanistan veterans now think those wars were not worth it. We need to listen to our veterans. They deserve better, particularly given what we ask of them.

The same government that conservatives rightly recognize as being too inept and incompetent to do much good here at home is the same government that regularly makes life and death decisions for our troops abroad.

A soldier can never go wrong in doing what his or her country asks of them. That is their duty. Citizens can never go wrong in questioning their government too much. That is our duty.

Mitt Romney: Thank You

We can never say thank you enough

SOME GAVE ALL

Remebering Those Who Made The Ultimate Sacrifice

"It is foolish and wrong to mourn the men who died. Rather we should thank God that such men lived."
  General George S. Patton

Our republic has always been blessed to be guarded by so many of our best and most honorable citizens. Of that small fraction of our population, an even smaller fraction, have paid the ultimate sacrifice. That is what today is about; remembering those heroes who never returned home to their families.

So amidst your family get-togethers and barbecues, please set aside enough time to visit your local veterans' cemetery or memorial and pay your respects; pray fervently that such men and women continue to guard our republic and that God's favor may be upon our republic and all the families who have lost their loved one.

As a veteran I dread this holiday,  I find myself getting moody as it approaches every year. For me it is a holiday for remembering faces that will never be seen again. Please don't take for granted your everyday leisures.  Without these brave men and women there would be no baseball, gardening, shopping, barbeques, or any of the millions of other things that clutter our days.

Let's also remember that we currently have our armed forces deployed throughout the world and with that comes the certainty that more will make the ultimate sacrifice. Please take some time from your schedule to remember in prayer, and with your support, our men and women are so bravely serving in Afghanistan, Iraq, South Korea, or where ever they may be, and advocate for their return home.
