How Does VP Paul Ryan Sound?

There are reports that Rep. Paul Ryan is being vetted for VP. Obviously, Rep. Ryan is not perfect; just like every other elected official. Especially, when it comes to civil liberties and nation building, but he would be a huge improvement over any elected VP we have had in my lifetime. The biggest issue facing our republic, in my opinion, in our debt crisis.  Gov. Mitt Romney would be proving that he not only takes the debt crisis serious, but that he is willing to make hard choices to fix it by picking Rep. Ryan.  This would be enough to get me on board to vote for him.

Some other reasons this would be a great move for Gov. Romney is that it would help place Wisconsin even more into the Romney category and keep our already enthusiastic base involved.  Finally, and I don't think this can be understated, he is Roman Catholic at a time the Catholic Church if fighting for our God given religious freedoms.  I would love to see a Catholic VP candidate stand up and fight against Obama's blatant disregard of our religious freedoms.

For our Wisconsin readers, you may find this article interesting.  It discusses who might replace Rep. Ryan should he be picked for VP.

Sen. Ron Johnson: Weekly Report from Washington

Senator Johnson Comments on Senate Vote on S. 3240
The 2012 Food Stamp bill – more commonly known as the ‘2012 Farm Bill’ – will spend about $995 billion over the next ten years. Of that nearly $1 trillion, 78% ($772 billion) will be spent on Food Stamps.
During debate on the Senate floor, I made a Motion to Recommit the bill back to committee with the simple instruction to split it into two separate pieces of legislation – a Food Stamp Bill and a Farm Bill. That motion was defeated by a vote of 40-59. Why are these measures combined? The answer is simple – to keep much of the legislation out of the light of day and to make spending $1 trillion far easier.
This is business as usual here in our nation’s capital, and it is bankrupting America.
Senator Johnson to President Obama: "Don't Kill These 200,000 Jobs."
On Wednesday, I voted to block the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) from implementing the proposed Utility MACT regulation. The regulation will have an annual cost of nearly $10 billion, kill the jobs of approximately 200,000 Americans currently employed, and kill jobs that might have been created over the next several years.

In the worst recession in 70 years, who would actively destroy American private sector jobs, increase the cost of energy and American products, and deter future hiring and creation of new jobs? The answer is President Obama and his EPA. It is not only an outrageous action, it is just plain dumb. It is another example that our President lacks a basic understanding of how the American economy operates and how jobs are created.

In 2008, Mr. Obama said that under his policies, the price of electricity would ‘necessarily skyrocket.’ If this Utility MACT regulation goes into effect, that will indeed occur. It is estimated that EPA’s new utility rules will increase electric rates by up to 19 percent in some areas. And when combined with another proposed rule – the Cross State Air Pollution Rule – it will increase electric rates in Wisconsin by nearly 22% by 2016. As it increases electric rates, it is estimated that this rule will kill between 180,000 and 215,000 jobs between now and 2015. If Mr. Obama is actually open to new ideas to improve the economy, here’s one: don’t kill these 200,000 jobs now.

E-Update From the Desk of Governor Scott Walker

E-update From the Desk of Governor Scott Walker
One of the most important duties I have serving as your Governor is to provide you directly with updates related to the operation of our state government. I also frequently provide updates on Facebook (Governor Scott Walker) and Twitter (@govwalker). Please feel free to share this update with your family, friends, and others who may be interested in state government operations.

Closing the Skills Gap

As I’ve traveled the state and talked to job creators from all areas, I often hear a similar story: they tell me jobs are available, but they can’t find skilled workers to fill the positions.

This week I was proud to roll out, with the support of the leadership of the University of Wisconsin (UW) System, a new degree model that will help close this skills gap and get more Wisconsinites back to work.

The new UW Flexible Degree Program will be a knowledge-based model that allows students to start classes anytime and earn credit for what they already know. Students will be able to demonstrate college-level competencies based on material they already learned in school, on the job, or on their own. By taking advantage of a high quality, flexible degree, students will be able to accelerate their careers, effectively lowering the cost of higher education.

As states across the country work to improve access and affordability to college, this new initiative will place Wisconsin at the forefront of a new frontier in higher education.

Because of the support of the UW System we expect to make this program available online to students as soon as fall of this year. I am encouraged that lawmakers of both political parties, from different regions of the state, reacted positively to the announcement of this new degree model. To learn more, click here.

Expanding Our Economy Worldwide

In the last week, Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade, and Consumer Protection (DATCP) Secretary, Ben Brancel, traveled to China and signed a Letter of Intent making our state the preferred supplier of dairy goods and services to the Shanghai Dairy Group.

DATCP hosted the Shanghai Dairy Group during World Dairy Expo 2011 in Madison and introduced the Group to University of Wisconsin-Madison officials. Building off of this relationship, Secretary Brancel was on hand during a signing ceremony last week where the Shanghai Dairy Group and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, signed a separate Letter of Intent that will lead to the establishment of a university sponsored dairy technology center in Shanghai.

Secretary Brancel also met with other Chinese government officials and investors to discuss additional initiatives, projects, and potential partnerships. China has been an important agricultural trade partner – in 2011, 41% of Wisconsin’s ginseng crop was sent to China.

Expanding exports to other countries like China will help farmers and other agricultural related employers continue to grow jobs in Wisconsin.

Just Ask the Governor

Each e-update I will answer a question submitted by a recipient of the previous e-update or from someone who contacts my office directly.

Question: There have been rumblings in the Chippewa Valley Area that your long term plan for state land (Public Hunting) areas would be to turn them over to private organizations for deer management. Furthermore, it was suggested that these management organizations would charge a fee to use these lands that the state already owns. Can you please address this and ease our minds once and for all?

Answer: As long as I am Governor, hunting on public land in Wisconsin will always be open and accessible. I will not allow private organizations to take over deer herd management – and I would certainly not allow fees to be levied that would decimate Wisconsin’s hunting heritage.

These rumors started because the independent deer trustee, Dr. Kroll, will be coming out with a final report on the Department of Natural Resources’ (DNR) deer herd management practices in the near future. Dr. Kroll dispelled this rumor directly – you can hear from him by clicking here.

I look forward to reviewing Dr. Kroll’s independent, science-based analysis of the DNR’s current deer herd management policies. I am optimistic that his recommendations could help improve current policies and ultimately help restore the trust of Wisconsin’s sportsmen and sportswomen.

It has been a pleasure communicating with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor and represent the residents of Wisconsin.

Gov. Walker Sells Conservatives Out

Anyone who has lived in Wisconsin for any amount of time knows that the Government Accountability Board is nothing but a Democrat-controlled partisan board.  Despite the fact that they are supposed to be a nonpartisan arbiter of Wisconsin's elections they continue to stick it to Republican candidates every election.  So I echo the sentiments of many that I am shocked Gov. Walker reappointed a Doyle appointee to the GAB.  Apparently, Republicans can continue to expect partisan bias from the GAB thanks to Gov. Walker's inexcusable reappointment.

This is a horrible way for Gov. Walker to repay all of the Libertarians and Conservatives who steadfastly stood behind him during the recall, even though he torpedoed Constitutional carry and refuses to support right to work.

Shocker: Ron Paul and rule 40, the new Romney nightmare

At least one of the cats is out of the bag. The story is now public that an obscure, overlooked GOP rule, passed in January, 2008, has opened the way for Ron Paul delegates to place his name in nomination for vice president at the RNC in Tampa. And maybe for president? Experts say no. More on that.

Rule 40 came at a time in 2008 when there was concern that the GOP presidential field would be split between candidates Huckabee, McCain, Romney, Thompson, Giuliani and Paul, with no one candidate winning a majority in five states. It was accepted that this possibility was remote, due to the sequential power of successive caucus and primary victories which would winnow the field and give one or two candidates momentum but the deadlock was at least a mathematical possibility.

The rule change declared that only a plurality within a delegation, not a majority, was needed in five states to place a name in no.........

Catholic Vote: Stop the HHS Mandate

Do We Owe Mitt Romney Our Vote?

I have been a Republican volunteer for over 20 years.  I have enthusiastically defended and supported our nominee for president, no matter how disgusted with them I was.  No more.  More important than being accepted at all the party functions and thanked for helping out, is my children's future.  If we do not have a candidate who is willing to address the crushing size of both our government and our debt, my children will not have the opportunities I have enjoyed.

An often overlooked issue, it seems these days, is civil liberties.  I do not want my children or future grandchildren to live in an America where the president can assassinate them, issue national security letters that deny them legal representation, or where drones fill the skies watching their every move.

How did we ever get to the point where the American people just so willingly surrender their rights at the feet of big brother?  It saddens me to think what our founding fathers feel as they watch us, from Heaven, as we squander the greatest republic that ever existed.

I have always been a big picture kind of guy, I mean you have to be if you can support voting for John McCain because of Sarah Palin and Supreme Court nominations.  But, not this time.  I have reached my proverbial straw that broke the camel's back.  While I am currently working tirelessly to elect Republicans up and down the ticket nationwide, I will not be voting for Mitt Romney unless he earns my vote.  He can do that by giving detailed plans of how he will restructure the federal government, reign in the federal reserve, and promote a return to our civil rights.

One area where I do strongly agree with Romney is his commitment to fund and expand our overburdened military, however I am left to wonder how serious he is about that.  He has not said where he will cut spending to pay for increasing our military spending, and he refuses to commit to bring our forces home.  We have ships being deployed far longer than the standard six months, suicide rates are up, and families are being broken by constant deployments.  Our military deserves better and that means a president who doesn't burden them when our national interests are not at stake.

Ronald Regan brilliantly expanded our military so that no one would challenge us.  That investment led to years of peace and only when we chose elective wars, or conflicts, did we have to use our military.  Real leadership is not sending other peoples children to die for an ever expanding empire.

Mitt Romney needs to prove he is the leader for this time with a bold vision and a fearless pick for VP.  He does that he will have my vote, but simply not being Barack Obama is not enough.

Founding Fathers Quote

There is not a more important and fundamental principle in legislation, than that the ways and means ought always to face the public engagements; that our appropriations should ever go hand in hand with our promises. To say that the United States should be answerable for twenty-five millions of dollars without knowing whether the ways and means can be provided, and without knowing whether those who are to succeed us will think with us on the subject, would be rash and unjustifiable. Sir, in my opinion, it would be hazarding the public faith in a manner contrary to every idea of prudence.

GOA Alert: House Committee Votes to Hold Eric Holder in Contempt of Congress!

logo Gun Owners of America

House Committee Votes to Hold Eric Holder in Contempt of Congress!
-- White House invokes Executive Privilege,
refuses to release subpoenaed documents
“How can the President assert executive privilege if there was no White House involvement? How can the President exert executive privilege over documents he's supposedly never seen? Is something very big being hidden to go to this extreme?” -- Senator Chuck Grassley(R-IA), June 20, 2012
Having promised that his administration would be the “most open and transparent in history,” President Barack Obama invoked executive privilege today to lock up documents that House investigators were seeking in relation to the cover-up surrounding Operation Fast & Furious.
In response, the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee voted to hold Eric Holder in contempt of Congress, noting that he has consistently refused to release thousands upon thousands of subpoenaed documents.
Executive privilege has been used by Presidents in the past (all the way back to George Washington) as a mechanism to protect sensitive documents relating to things like the military, foreign powers, or the President’s power to pardon.
But today’s invoking of executive privilege was not aimed at protecting the country. Rather, it appears to be nothing more than a crass attempt to cover-up lies and misstatements made by Eric Holder and others in his department. Consider some of the following:
  • The Justice Department -- in a letter dated February 4, 2011 -- told Congress that the U.S. does not knowingly help smuggle guns into Mexico. The Justice Department had to retract that letter ten months later.
  • On May 5, 2011, Attorney General Eric Holder testified before Congress that he only learned about Fast & Furious “a few weeks ago.” Later, he had to confess that it would have been more accurate to say “a couple of months” ago -- and even that statement was dubious considering that he had received memos on Fast & Furious as far back as July, 2010.
  • On June 12, 2012, Attorney General Holder defiantly told Sen. John Cornyn (R-TX) that the Bush administration knew that guns were being smuggled into Mexico as part of a program called Operation Wide Receiver. The insinuation was that the Obama administration simply inherited a “gun walking” program that was out of control. Today, however, Holder had to retract his earlier statement that Bush officials knew about “gun walking.”
  • Finally, there are the leaked affidavits. As reported by John Lott today, a mole in the Justice Department gave Rep. Darrell Issa’s Oversight and Government Reform Committee a set of wiretap applications “proving that high department officials knew about the administration’s efforts to aid the gun smuggling.” As noted by Lott, this destroyed much of Holder’s credibility since he had claimed these wiretap applications were not relevant to Fast & Furious and justified his refusal to release them.
Technically speaking, executive privilege is supposed to be employed to protect deliberations where the President was personally involved. Hence, the invoking of the privilege seems to suggest that the President (or his top deputies) have known more about Fast & Furious than has heretofore been admitted by any Justice Department official.
It’s interesting that Eric Holder wanted to get immunity from Issa's committee before he would give any more paperwork to them. Having failed to get the desired immunity, Holder asked President Obama to lock up the requested documents.
One significant Senator blasted the use of executive privilege: “There’s been a tendency on the part of this administration to try to hide behind executive privilege every time there’s something a little shaky taking place. The administration would be best served by coming clean on this.”
Ironically, that quote does not come from any Republican in the Senate, but rather from then-Sen. Barack Obama during a CNN interview on March 19, 2007.
The President has just raised the stakes as his actions today point to his involvement in either planning or covering up the fallout related to Operation Fast & Furious.
REMEMBER: Those who are close to this investigation have concluded that Operation Fast & Furious was nothing more than attempt to bring new and stronger gun control laws which would only render Americans less safe.
But the Operation blew up in their faces after hundreds of people were killed by Fast & Furious guns -- and in particular, a Border Patrol named Brian Terry in December, 2010.
ACTION: Now that Issa’s committee has voted to hold the Attorney General in contempt, it means that the full House will have to vote on the citation. So please take the following action:
1. Click here to contact your Representative and urge him to VOTE IN FAVOR OF holding the Attorney General in contempt.
2. If your Representative is a member of the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee and voted in favor of the contempt citation today, thank him. If he opposed it, then blast him!
3. Circulate this alert to your friends and family!

Cutting Spending Works

Here is a good article showing that governments who are willing to cut spending, like Estonia, are seeing improvements to their economy.  Which leaves me to wonder, what if a Ron Paul-type politician ever got elected president or prime minister?  Just imagine how much that country's economy would rebound.  Unfortunately, it appears our choice this year will be between a socialist Democrat and a big-government Republican.  It makes one start to consider a third option.

SR - When it comes to movies I am not really a fan of chick flicks, although there are a few that I can watch over and over.  I am really more of an action movie lover.  I love movies with a fast pace that make me think; I like being surprised.  I also like movies that are not PC, but shows the good guy (or just the better guy, because what some movies consider the good guy does not always strike me as such) obliterate the bad guys.

DR - I found this list frustrating and impossible.  Right away I had to cheat by adding all John Wayne and James Bond movies instead of selecting from individual ones.  Looking at my list I see that Star Trek movies and several classics are missing.  I would really need a list of top 200 to be even remotely accurate.

  4. Gov. Nikki Haley                              4.  Gov. Bobby Jindal
  5. Gov. Bobby Jindal                             5.  Rep.  Paul Ryan
SR - My choices for VP would be for true Libertarian-leaning Conservatives who would stand up for America and for our freedoms.  Many voters want politicians who won't sell out their values and who won't sell out the American people.  I also believe that it would be beneficial for the Republican Party to have a female or minority VP on the ticket; we need to start promoting both in our party and I believe they would bring a much needed perspective to an administration hoping to capture the support of disparaged voters who feel abandoned by their government.  We also need an administration who will pull us out of overseas occupations and conflicts, bring our troops home, and build up our military for homeland defense and securing our own borders.

DR - I think there are probably a lot of voters like me in the Party who have devoted countless hours volunteering and supporting Republican candidates who ultimately grew the government and squandered our resources as bad as the Democrats.  I really don't know if I am going to vote for Mitt Romney.  I see him as another George Bush, at best.  One of the ways he could help get me on board is if he picked someone for VP who has been serious about getting our financial crisis under control.  A Tim Pawlenty for VP would guarantee my vote for a third party candidate; probably Gary Johnson.  Pawlenty is nothing but a big-government Republican wrapped in an over-starched shirt.

Hovde Campaign: Decries spin from Elite Liberal Media; challenges Huffington

Madison—U.S. Senate candidate Eric Hovde responded Wednesday to baseless attacks from Arianna Huffington after a few seconds of a 14 minute speech by Hovde on our debt crisis and entitlement reform were taken grossly out of context.

“The fact that I am being attacked for wanting to address the problems we face is exactly what is wrong with our political system,” said Hovde. “Nothing ever gets fixed in our country because you can’t even talk about the serious issues without suffering attacks against your character.”

Hovde believes it is time to have a real debate about reforming our social safety nets and eliminating waste, fraud and abuse from the system.

Instead of engaging in an honest dialogue about the dangers of out-of-control government spending and how it will devastate American society—particularly the middle class and those less fortunate—the left is using this opportunity to paint Hovde as anti-poor.

Nothing could be further from the truth.

Eric created the Hovde Foundation in 1998 to fund MS research. A few years later, the focus shifted to helping vulnerable street children around the globe. Then, in 2005, he started building ‘Hovde Houses,’ which are group shelters that provide housing, supportive services and love to hundreds of vulnerable children in six countries (

In addition, Eric and his wife Sharon have been involved in and contributed to charities that educateinner-city children, the International Justice Mission, Meals on Wheels, the MS Society, the Road Home Dane County, and No Greater Sacrifice—a non-profit dedicated to the children of our nation’s fallen and wounded service members.

“I find it shameful that Arianna Huffington who, through her heritage, is well-versed on the devastating effect the debt crisis has had on Greek society, entitlements and their lower and middle classes would use my comments out of context to attack me,” said Hovde. “I will gladly debate Ms. Huffington any time and any place in front of a room full of journalists on what she has done for the less fortunate versus what I have done.”

MORGANTOWN -- The deadline is now over and Earl Ray Tomblin has chosen to support Barack Obama by not going to his own convention to vote against the President.
Bill Maloney said, “Barack Obama and his job-killing policies are hurting West Virginians. It is now clear that Earl Ray Tomblin supports Barack Obama and his policies.”
“There is no question that Earl Ray Tomblin and Barack Obama support one another,” Maloney said while citing Tomblin’s leadership role in implementing Obamacare, the hundreds of thousands of dollars Barack Obama’s political arm diverts to West Virginia on Tomblin’s behalf and his nearly non-existent opposition of Obama’s job-killing EPA regulations.
Tomblin’s party bosses made their voice quite clear after their convention that every Democratic candidate in West Virginia would support the President. Earl Ray’s choice to avoid his own national convention shows that he is unwilling to stand up to his own party bosses and do what is right for West Virginia: oppose Barack Obama.
Bill Maloney continued, “I don’t understand why it’s so hard to say “NO” to Obama. Over forty percent of West Virginia Democrats did so in the primary and hundreds of thousands of West Virginians will say “NO” to Obama in November.”
Maloney reiterated, “What could Barack Obama do between now and the election to possibly make up for how much damage he’s already done to West Virginia? From Obamacare to the job-killing EPA and now amnesty, West Virginia families can’t afford four more years of the Obama - Tomblin economy.”
Bill Maloney concluded, “If Earl Ray Tomblin really supported our state’s coal miners, genuinely wanted to stop Obamacare, or cared about any West Virginians other than his own family and his circle of lobbyists and political insiders, then he would work actively and openly against Barack Obama’s re-election. Earl Ray has made his decision. Earl Ray picked Obama over West Virginia.”
Bill Maloney was the 2011 Republican nominee for governor of West Virginia. A proven job creator, Maloney has built his own businesses and provided jobs to hundreds of West Virginia families. Maloney isn’t a career politician, and he will bring real-world experience and a fresh approach to Charleston. He believes in lower taxes, smaller government and more opportunity. Maloney’s 'can-do' attitude helped to save the lives of 33 trapped Chilean miners recently. Maloney and his wife Sharon live in Morgantown and attend Chestnut Ridge Church. They have two grown daughters and recently welcomed their first grandchild.

Historic “Ocean to Ocean” Pilgrimage Launches in Eastern Russia

Revered Icon of Our Lady travels through Asia and Europe to promote the defense of life

VLADIVOSTOK, Russia – On June 14, a coalition of Catholic and Eastern Orthodox pro-life leaders from 18 countries launched the "From Ocean to Ocean" pro-life pilgrimage of the icon of Our Lady of Czestochowa from the Eastern Coast of Russia to Fatima, Portugal. The intent of the pilgrimage is to promote the defense of life across continents that have been decimated by widespread contraception and abortion.

“There are many remarkable stories over the centuries of faithful Catholics marching with an icon of the Blessed Mother into situations where the odds seem insurmountable, but where the faithful emerge victorious,” said Father Peter West, vice president for missions of Human Life International, which is coordinating the pilgrimage. “That is the situation in which Europe finds itself today, amid a seemingly impenetrable culture of death marked by abortion, contraception, euthanasia, and other assaults on life. This return to a public witness of tradition and faith is desperately needed for those who have lost all hope and faith.”

The pilgrimage began in Vladivostok, on the Pacific Coast of Russia, where several hundred of the faithful came to see and venerate the icon of the Virgin Mary. The icon was officially greeted in the Orthodox Cathedral of Our Lady of Care (Pokrovskij Sobor), where a special liturgy was celebrated in honor of Our Lady of Czestochowa. It was then taken to the main Roman Catholic cathedral of Santa Claus, and the Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary.

Juevenille Talking Heads Besmirch Eric Hovde's Call For Serious Coverage Of Nation's Financial Crisis

Twitter is on fire with a completely false attack on Eric Hovde claiming that he wants the press to stop writing about the poor; completely mischaracterizing his intent, which was to draw attention to the fiscal crisis this nation is in.

The American people are facing hyper inflation and, in my opinion, the potential breakup of our republic if we do not get serious about addressing our spending, our weak dollar policy, and an immatureness of our elected officials and media to have a serious debate about what faces the nation and how we can fix it.

It is these kind of cheap games and attacks that keeps politicians from seriously addressing the crisis we are in.  Thank you Eric Hovde for standing up and saying the truth, even if the press and your opponents don't like it.

Here is a short clip of the comment that is being misrepresented.

Here is a longer clip to provide the context of his comment.

Constitutionalists will find a lot to love with the above video, as will any parent or grandparent who want their children and grandchildren to grow up in a financially secure nation.  I suggest we take this opportunity and show our support for Hovde's willingness to tackle these issues and donate to his campaign.

Report: Israel moves tanks to Egypt border

Report: Israel moves tanks to Egypt border

Israel on Monday deployed tanks along the Egyptian border following a murderous terrorist attack, reported Israel's Ynet news portal, a move that many saw as portending a new hostile reality between the two countries.

While the deployment was clearly meant to protect construction crews working around the clock to put in place a new border fence, the presence of the tanks and the sudden urgency to build the fence could not be seen outside the context of the Muslim Brotherhood's announced presidential victory.

Muslim Brotherhood officials declared that their candidate, Mohammed Mursi, had won a strong majority of votes in the weekend presidential run-off election.

Israeli officials and Mursi's challenger, former Egyptian Prime Minister Ahmed Shafiq, had previously warned that if the Muslim Brotherhood took the presidency, it would use increased anarchy and terrorism emanating from the Sinai Peninsula to draw Israel into open conflict.

Israeli army officials said that for now, Egyptian forces in the Sinai are working to curb terrorist activity, and Egypt's Supreme Military Council appeared reluctant to hand over the reins of power to a Mursi-led government. But that will soon change, with international pressure building for the Egyptian army to honor the results of the election.

On Sunday, the same day that the polls closed in the presidential election, Egypt's Supreme Military Council issued a decree promising to hand over power to the new president by the end of the month, but determining that it would retain control of military affairs, including the ability to declare war.

The United States responded by threatening to withhold vital financial aid if the Egyptian army went through with what was seen as a "soft coup."

"We are particularly concerned by decisions that appear to prolong the military’s hold on power," said State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland. Pentagon press secretary George Little insisted that the Egyptian army "relinquish power to civilian elected authorities and...respect the universal rights of the Egyptian people."

Meanwhile, Hamas, which is an offshoot of the Muslim Brotherhood, celebrated Mursi's reported victory as heralding a new era of Islamist resistance against Israel. Mursi's presidential win was marked with the handing out of candies in on the streets of Gaza City.

Hovde Campaign: Statement on Governor Thompson’s decision to skip yet another U.S. Senate Debate
Madison—Hovde Campaign spokesman Sean Lansing released the following statement Tuesday in advance of the Dane County Young Republicans U.S. Senate Candidate Forum:

“It’s certainly disappointing that, once again, Governor Thompson is denying Wisconsin voters a good, honest debate. With record high spending, crushing debt and tax rates that are set to skyrocket, folks deserve to know where a governor who increased state spending by 118 percent while raising taxes and fees by millions and increasing our debt by $1.8 billion stands on these issues.”

The forum was originally scheduled to be a debate before Governor Thompson backed out.

Bill Maloney: "Pathetic Abdication of Leadership"

No leadership in Charleston or Washington
MORGANTOWN -- With this afternoon's announcement that Earl Ray Tomblin would skip his party's national convention, Earl Ray has once again tried to punt on the question of his support for Barack Obama. Recently the Charleston Gazette called Tomblin's refusal to make a decision a "pathetic abdication of leadership."

"West Virginia needs new leadership," said gubernatorial candidate Bill Maloney. "We have a governor who is so afraid of his party bosses that he refuses to answer the simple question of whether or not another 4-year term for Barack Obama is good for our state. Now he won't even attend his party's convention."

"The fact is, Earl Ray supports Obama," Maloney said. "He supported Obama's health care plan that cut hundreds of billions from Medicare and hurt West Virginia seniors. He refused to join 27 other governors in suing Obama to stop Obamacare and, instead, led West Virginia to become the second state in the nation to begin implementing ObamaCare. It's why an Obama-funded organization pumped millions of dollars in attack ads into West Virginia last year to prop up and save Earl Ray's sagging campaign."

"Obama's liberal policies and his War on Coal have cost us thousands of jobs," Maloney said. "I'm not afraid to say it: 4 more years of Barack Obama would be devastating to West Virginia's families. I'm going to do everything I can to defeat him in November.
