Federal Government Publishes Jobs
Numbers
This week, the federal government verified the Quarterly Census of Employment and Wages (QCEW) for the first quarter of 2012. It showed Wisconsin created more than 37,000 private sector jobs from March 2011 to March 2012, including a gain of 12,138 jobs in the manufacturing sector. Unlike other states, Wisconsin faced economic and political uncertainty over the last year, and our continued private sector job growth is good news. I am particularly pleased with the gains in the manufacturing sector, which make up a huge portion of our state’s economy. The quarterly job count data shows, yet again, the monthly job estimates are not accurate. I am hopeful the state Department of Workforce Development will be able to work with the federal government to bring the monthly estimates back in line with the actual job numbers. The fiscal reforms we put in place, coupled with reforms like reducing frivolous lawsuits and bringing certainty and accountability to state regulations, established a strong foundation for job growth. Moving forward, we will continue to find ways to make it easier for the people of our state to put Wisconsinites back to work. Below are a few highlights of the QCEW data published by the federal government:

Highlighting
Manufacturing
This week, I highlighted manufacturing by raising awareness of a partnership between the Milwaukee School of Engineering and Snap-on, a leading global innovator, manufacturer, and marketer of tools, equipment, diagnostics, repair information, and systems solutions for professional users performing critical tasks. October 5 is Manufacturing Day, which is designed to expand knowledge about manufacturing careers and improve perception about the benefits of choosing a career in this important industry. Additional information about Manufacturing Day can be accessed by clicking here. |
It has
been a pleasure communicating with you. It is an honor to serve as your Governor
and represent the residents of Wisconsin.
Sincerely,

National
Rifle Association Announces Support for
Tommy
Thompson for U.S. Senate
Tammy
Baldwin Has a Long History of Opposing Second Amendment Rights
Madison, WI - Today, the
National Rifle Association announced its support for former governor Tommy
Thompson for United States Senate over Madison liberal Tammy Baldwin, citing his
unwavering record upholding the Second Amendment rights of Wisconsinites.
"The National Rifle Association
is proud to endorse Tommy Thompson for U.S. Senate," said NRA President, David
Keene. "Tommy has a lifetime 'A' rating because he supports the rights of gun
owners in Wisconsin, and across America. By helping to enshrine the Right to
Keep and Bear Arms in the State Constitution and his continued commitment to
protecting gun owners from the overreaching arm of government, Tommy has proven
he is a true fighter for our freedom.
"Congresswoman Baldwin has made
a career out of infringing on our constitutional freedoms and liberty,"
continued Keene. "From voting against a constitutional amendment to guarantee
Wisconsinites' right to Keep and Bear Arms in the State Legislature to voting
against legal gun ownership in the House, Baldwin has made it clear, she does
not support or understand our proud heritage."
"I am proud to have the
endorsement of the National Rifle Association, Wisconsin chapter of the NRA and
sportsmen across the state," said Thompson. "I am an avid outdoorsman and
dedicated protector of our Second Amendment, Constitutional rights. As governor,
I signed a law to wipe out 35 undermining ordinances, helped enshrine the Right
to Keep and Bear Arms in Wisconsin and support and exercise conceal carry. Tammy
just doesn't understand the proud heritage of hunting and fishing in Wisconsin
and has rightfully earned her 'F' rating from Gun Owners of American and the
NRA. As Senator, I will continue to support national reciprocity for Wisconsin
permit holders, oppose Baldwin's proposed gun grabs and support a national
Sportsmen's Heritage Act."
The NRA charted association,
Wisconsin Firearm Owners, Rangers, Clubs and Educators as well as the has also
come out in support of Thompson, knowing Congresswoman Baldwin's overreaching
and anti-sportsman agenda.
"Time and time again,
Congresswoman Baldwin has proven she flat-out opposes Wisconsinites'
Constitutional Rights," said Jeff Nass, President of Wisconsin Firearm Owners,
Ranges, Clubs, and Educators (Wisconsin FORCE) the NRA's chartered state
association. "She voted against legal ownership of firearms and against the
private sale of firearms at gun shows. Tommy Thompson is a true protector of our
sporting traditions and is the only choice for Wisconsin gun owners."
Thompson is a life-long NRA
member. He earned the endorsement of the National Rifle Association in all four
of his gubernatorial elections and holds a lifetime "A+" rating from the state
chapter, and has an "A" rating from the national-the highest grade
possible.

Baldwin's Reckless Record on
Defense and Veterans Issues Proves Dangerous for America
Puts Radical Agenda
Above Our Troops and Veterans
Madison, WI - Despite working with some of the most radical anti-military, anti-veterans groups - like MoveOn.org - Madison liberal Tammy Baldwin will attempt to deceive voters today as she meets with veterans in Appleton. What Baldwin will surely neglect to tell these veterans, though, is that while our brave soldiers were trying to defeat terrorism and defend America, she consistently voted to cut their funding.
Baldwin is not just anti-troops; she
has also proven that she is anti-veterans as well. Rather than giving our
returning service members the heroes' welcome they deserve, Baldwin voted
against funding their medical services and against VA extended-care facilities.
And soon, Baldwin and President Obama will cut $500 billion from the Defense
Department, which will weaken our military and kill approximately 36,000 jobs in
the Badger State.
"Madison liberal Tammy Baldwin's radical record on defense and veterans' issues is shameful," said spokeswoman Lisa Boothe. "Not only did she vote to slash funding for our troops while they were in combat, but she also voted against providing our veterans with the necessary health facilities and care that they deserve. Unfortunately for our brave men and women in uniform, it appears Baldwin has put her ties with left-wing groups like MoveOn.org above their well-being. Madison liberal Tammy Baldwin is too extreme for Wisconsin's troops and veterans."
BACKGROUND
BALDWIN FAILED TO STOP SEQUESTRATION
Baldwin Voted Against The
Sequester Replacement Reconciliation Act Of 2012. "Passage of the bill that
would cancel $98 billion in automatic discretionary spending cuts that would go
into effect in January 2013. It would replace the sequester with a $19 billion
reduction in the discretionary cap for fiscal 2013 and with reconciliation
savings from mandatory programs recommended by six House committees. It also
would eliminate the separate cap on defense spending for the year to allow for
higher spending levels. The bill would modify mandatory programs to save $19.7
billion through fiscal 2013 and more than $310 billion over 10 years, including
by decreasing benefits and eligibility for the food stamp program, reducing and
repealing elements of the 2010 health care law, and requiring all current and
future federal workers to pay an additional 5 percentage points of their salary
toward their federal pensions." (H.R. 5652, CQ Vote #247: Passed by a vote of
218-199: R 218-16; D 0-183, 5/10/12, Baldwin Voted Nay)
· According To A Study By George Mason University, The Defense Spending Cuts In Sequestration Would Result In Wisconsin Losing 36,555 Jobs. (Stephen S. Fuller, "The Economic Impact Of The Budget Control Act Of 2011 On DOD And Non-DOD Agencies," Report, 7/17/12)
BALDWIN VOTED AGAINST OUR
VETERANS
Baldwin Voted Against Adding $22 Million In Funding For Veterans' Medical Services. "Amendment that would add $22 million for veterans' medical services. It also would reduce by $50 million funding for the 1990 military base closure account." (H.R. 2642, CQ Vote # 494: Rejected In Committee Of The Whole 154-260: R 138-50; D 16-210, 6/15/07, Baldwin Voted Nay)
Baldwin Voted Against Adding $10 Million In Funding For VA's Construction Of Extended-Care Facilities. "Amendment that would add $10 million for Veterans Affairs Department (VA) grants to states for the construction of extended-care facilities, offset by a reduction for VA general operating expenses of the same amount." (H.R. 2642, CQ Vote # 496: Rejected In Committee Of The Whole 206-211: R 161-28; D 45-183, 6/15/07, Baldwin Voted Nay)
BALDWIN VOTED TO DEFUND OUR
TROOPS
Baldwin Voted Against The 2013
Defense Department Appropriations Bill. "Passage of the bill that would
provide $605.8 billion for the Defense Department in fiscal 2013. The total
includes $518.1 billion in discretionary funding and an additional $87.7 billion
for overseas contingency operations, including those in Afghanistan. Of the
combined funding, approximately $239 billion would be provided for operations
and maintenance, $110 billion for procurement and $70 billion for research and
development. It would provide $34 billion for defense health programs and about
$142 billion for military personnel, including a 1.7 percent pay raise." (H.R.
5856, CQ Vote #498: Passed by a vote of 326-90: R 225-11; D 101-79, 7/19/12,
Baldwin Voted Nay)
Baldwin Voted For An Amendment
That Allocated $31 Billion For Operations In Afghanistan But Prohibited Any
Funding To Be Used In Iraq. "Obey, D-Wis., motion to concur in the Senate
amendment with House amendment no. 2. The House amendment would provide $31
billion for operations in Afghanistan and prohibit the funds from being used for
operations in Iraq." (HR 2764, CQ Vote #1172: Motion agreed to by a vote of
206-201: D 201-18; R 5-183, 12/17/07, Baldwin Voted Yea)
Baldwin Voted To Override The President's Veto Of A Bill, Which Funded The War In Iraq While Setting Timeframes For Redeployment Of Troops. "Passage, over President Bush's May 1, 2007, veto, of the bill that would provide $124.2 billion in fiscal 2007 emergency funding, as well as set as a goal of redeploying most U.S. combat troops in Iraq by the end of March 2008, if the president can certify the Iraq government is meeting benchmarks, and by the end of 2007 if he cannot. The measure would provide $95.5 billion for military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan, $6.8 billion for hurricane recovery and relief, $3.5 billion in crop and livestock disaster assistance and $2.3 billion for homeland security anti-terrorism programs. It also would raise the minimum wage to $7.25 per hour over two years and provide $4.8 billion in small-business tax incentives." (H.R. 1591, CQ Vote # 276: Rejected 222-203: R 2-196; D 220-7, 5/2/07, Baldwin Voted Yea)

Tammy Baldwin Stimulates Tax Cheats With Federal Funds
Another Day, Another Wasted Dollar By Tammy Baldwin and Her
$825 Billion Stimulus
Madison, WI - Madison liberal Tammy Baldwin
has a long record of supporting tax-and-spend initiatives, but one of the most
egregious examples is her support for the failed $825 billion stimulus. At the
same time Baldwin complained that small business owners - who are the engine of
our economy - are not paying enough in taxes, she
handed out $22 billion to contractors who cheat on their taxes.
Even more egregious is that Baldwin promised
hard-working families that their taxpayer dollars would "create or save" 67,000
jobs in Wisconsin. However, since then, Wisconsin has lost over 50,000 jobs. As
if the failure of her first stimulus was not enough for her to learn her lesson,
Baldwin supported President Obama's second $450 billion stimulus
bill.
"In her 14 years in Washington, D.C., Madison
liberal Tammy Baldwin has found a lot of ways to waste taxpayers' money, but
giving their hard-earned dollars to tax cheats is incomprehensible," said
spokeswoman Lisa Boothe. "Baldwin's blatant disregard for our nation's fiscal
state and the hard-working taxpayers who are struggling to make ends meet is
what helped get our nation into its current financial mess. Unlike Baldwin,
Tommy Thompson is a proven reformer who will work to balance our budget and get
our country working again."

GOA releases 2012 Candidate Scorecard
Gun Owners of America |
Exposing
Those Lying Flip-floppiing Politicians
The 2012 elections
have now entered the homestretch. The candidate debates are ramping up, and
politicians all over the country are blanketing the airwaves with lies about
their legislative records.
It’s not a new
problem. Remember the now-infamous quote from presidential hopeful Kerry about
the Iraq War: “I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against
it.”
Rarely has a
politician exposed himself more shamefully than the Massachusetts Democrat did
back in 2003. Of course, everyone knows that most politicians do what Kerry did
-- they are just a lot better in disguising their duplicity.
Gun
Owners of America has released its Candidate Rating -- something the
organization has done for more than two decades -- to help gun owners ferret out
those lying politicians who “voted for your gun rights before they voted against
them.”
Consider a recent
letter from Democrat Senator Claire McCaskill of Missouri to a GOA activist who
is a constituent in her state. Asked whether she would support this pro-gun
legislation to allow gun owners to carry their guns across the country,
McCaskill said:
“I strongly support
legal and safe gun ownership by law-abiding citizens and have consistently voted
to uphold this constitutional right. For example, in the 111th Congress, I
voted to … require the National Park Service to honor state gun laws when gun
owners enter National Parks in their states.”
Did this Senator --
who is F-rated by GOA -- really vote to repeal the National Parks gun ban?
Hardly. You see, this is where McCaskill pulls a “John Kerry,” essentially
saying: “I supported gun rights before I opposed them.”
When the repeal of
this gun ban came before her, McCaskill opposed it -- voting against a
stand-alone amendment to repeal the National Parks gun ban which was added to a
credit card “reform” bill. (Senate Roll Call #188, May 12, 2009.)
Later on, she
supported the underlying credit card bill so, presumably, Sen. McCaskill must
think this allows her to say she helped repeal the National Parks gun ban --
even though she voted against it when it was a stand-alone amendment.
In other words, she
supported the National Parks gun ban before she “opposed” it.
Considering
politicians’ tendency to obfuscate, how is a gun owner to know where his member
of Congress really stands on the Second Amendment? To be honest, it’s a
full-time job tracking down the voting records of all the candidates.
And this is why Gun
Owners of America surveys all the candidates for Congress. It’s why we rate
Congressmen, not on what they say, but on how they vote. It’s why we try to put
a Candidate Rating into as many gun owners’ hands as we can prior to the
election.
Print out your state. Copy it. Distribute it
around.
Email it to all your pro-gun family and friends.
GOA is committed to
helping millions of gun owners around the country make informed choices when
they go to the polls this fall. Because when it comes to our Second Amendment
rights, you can’t just go on what the politicians are telling you!
Please help GOA spread the message to
millions of gun owners nationwide with your contribution today!

New Survey Shows
Baldwin At Odds With 90 Percent of Seniors Who Rely on Medicare Part
D
Baldwin Has Voted
Against, Criticized and Wants to Dismantle the Popular Prescription Drug
Program
Madison, WI - A newly released survey from
KRC Research and Medicare Today proves that Madison liberal Tammy Baldwin is
wrong on Medicare Part D. In an article about the survey, USA
Today even stated, "Here's one program
candidates aren't likely to mess with: The Medicare prescription drug plan."
Unfortunately for Baldwin, she has made the popular prescription drug program
that 90 percent of seniors support the centerpiece of her salacious
campaign.
Not only has Baldwin voted against and openly
attacked Medicare Part D, but she wants to dismantle it and put the government
in charge of prescription drug negotiations. Her opposition for the popular
program that enrolls 31.5 million people and that has come in 43 percent under
its projected budget flies in the face of the seniors who rely on it to
live.
"Madison liberal Tammy Baldwin is at odds with 90
percent of the 31.5 million seniors who rely on Medicare Part D," said
spokeswoman Lisa Boothe. "Unfortunately for the millions of seniors who need the
program to live, Tammy Baldwin wants to dismantle it and put the government in
charge of negotiating their prescription drug prices. Fortunately for Wisconsin
seniors, Tommy Thompson stood up for them as HHS secretary and created a program
that not only came in 43 percent under its projected budget, but one that 90
percent of seniors support and have come to rely on. Not only has Baldwin voted
to gut seniors' Medicare by $716 billion and put a board of 15 unelected
bureaucrats in charge of rationing their care, but now she wants to dismantle
their Medicare Part D. Madison liberal Tammy Baldwin is just too extreme for
Wisconsin's seniors."

Paul Ryan Will Host
Reception with Tommy Thompson in Milwaukee
Madison, WI - On Sunday, October 14, less
than a month from Election Day, Republican Vice Presidential Candidate Paul Ryan
will return home to Wisconsin to host a reception for former Governor Tommy
Thompson in support of his bid for the United States Senate. The event will kick
off at 3:30 PM and will be held at the Harley Davidson Museum in
Milwaukee.
"I am proud to have Congressman Ryan help rally the
people of our great state on my behalf," said Thompson. "From the moment Paul
was elected to Congress, I knew he would shake up the status quo in Washington
to get things done the 'Wisconsin Way'. Since then, Paul has made a name for
himself as a commonsense reformer, and instead of watching as our nation tips
closer to the fiscal brink, he has stepped up with solutions to the problems our
nation is facing. I know the people of Wisconsin will welcome Paul home as
warmly as I do because they share our vision of responsible reforms, lower taxes
and reducing government spending - a vision that will build a stronger and more
prosperous America."

Wisconsin Builders Association Endorses Tommy Thompson
Madison, WI - Today, the Wisconsin Builders Association (WBA), a statewide professional trade association representing over 6,500 small businesses in the housing industry, announced its support for former Governor Tommy Thompson in the U.S. Senate race.
"The American economy is struggling because of overregulation, overspending and overtaxation," said Gary Roehrig, president of the WBA. "America can no longer afford to be bogged down by burdensome regulation, which is why the WBA is proud to endorse Tommy Thompson for U.S. Senate. Like us, Tommy is a builder; but, instead of homes, he built a booming Wisconsin economy that created more than 740,000 jobs. He did it here, and we are confident he will do it again in Washington, D.C."
"I am proud to receive the support of Wisconsin's home builders," said Tommy Thompson. "The housing industry is a vital part of the American economy, and it is crucial that we give the industry the tools it needs to grow and expand. As Governor, I cut taxes 91 times, made regulatory reforms to help small businesses grow and gave home owners relief by cutting and capping property taxes. We must make the American dream of home ownership attainable through sound and responsible fiscal policies."

RSC Update: Falling
Incomes, Rising Prices
Data
Points
If you feel like the
last four years have been tough, the data backs you up. While plenty of things
have gone up in price (gasoline perhaps most notably), incomes have actually
fallen.
A few points about
the chart above, which visualizes these trends all too
well.
- According to
analysts at Sentier Research, median household income has dropped $4,520,
or about one month’s average wages, since President Obama took
office.
- The average price
for a gallon of gas has more than doubled since January 2009, from under $2 to
now almost $4.
Numerous economists
are forecasting another
recession, but these trends don’t have to shape our future. We can help
reenergize our economy by producing more American-made energy and the
good-paying jobs it creates. As this
article in USA Today points out, the shale oil industry alone has
contributed 1 million of the 2.7 million jobs added in the U.S. since 2002.
Remember that the next time liberals look to slow down oil and natural gas
production.
