Today Senator Glenn Grothman and Representative Dean Kaufert introduced legislation to provide a tax credit to parents for private school tuition expenses. This tax credit will give parents the ability to have an alternative to the public schools.
“Private schools throughout the state are struggling. Parents want options for their children and this tuition tax credit is a step forward in providing educational diversity in Wisconsin,” commented Grothman.
The bill will be phased in beginning taxable year 2014 starting at a $1,000 tax credit for parents of elementary students and a $1,500 tax credit for each child attending high school. The credit, when fully implemented, will be $1,500 for elementary children and $2,500 for high school students. This bill has been co-sponsored by 28 members of the legislature and has garnered widespread support throughout Wisconsin.
Kaufert added, “I am glad to be the co-author of this legislation in the Assembly. I have supported this tax credit for many years. Families in my district are eagerly awaiting the passage of this important piece of legislation.”
