PEARL HARBOR (Dec. 13, 2013) Seaman Exammanuel Williams, stationed aboard the guided-missile cruiser USS Lake Erie (CG 70) secures a mooring line for the U.S. Navy's first littoral combat ship, USS Freedom (LCS 1), on Joint Base Pearl Harbor-Hickam. Freedom's maiden proof-of-concept deployment, a 9-month assignment forward-operating from Singapore, is also the first ever for a LCS and the ship is scheduled to return to its San Diego homeport later this month.
